Lion Keyboard Problems with Version 1.3
By Andreas Schlögel, August 09, 2011
Hello everyone. Most of you have discovered by now that there is a slight problem with your keyboard when you upgrade to Lion!
Roy has posted a ‘fix’ for this. You will find it in the News section of this site. Please note that this is a fix for a British keyboard only, as that is the only one we have!
He is still pottering away at version 2.0. This will circumvent the need for X11 and therefore won’t exhibit some of the problems that many have had. However, it is just pottering at the moment. Unfortunately time is very short in more ways than one! Work, RBC and theocratic things are sapping the hours away. So please be patient with us!
May we also take this opportunity to apologise to everyone who has posted feedback that we just don’t have the time to answer. If any of you brothers or sisters out there can help out with answering some of the queries, we would be very grateful.

Thank you for your work we really appreciate your help! Just as I downloaded the fix for the Lion OS and it did fix the major keyboard issue however, I’m french and we use these caracters ( é ) ( à ) ( è ) ( ï ) just as an example.
Unfortunately when we need to use these caracters it replaces it with /. Is there a way to fix this issue?
Thank you
Im still having the keyboard issue. Everything went fine the other night, but for some reason I had to reinstall everything and the keyboard is having problems. I did what you said, but still have and issue.
Thank you.
Dear Brothers
I guess I chose the wrong time to get my first mac! Not only is that in itself a learning curve, but I also have the Lion issues.
If any brothers familiar with mac and WTLib could give me some help I would appreciate it. My problem is that I just don’t seem to have the Framework package – just the application.
I am sure that it is something very obvious but I just cannot see it.
Many thanks
Your brother
James
Dear James, Sorry the video is a bit out of date! There is no separate framework package anymore. Just the application.
Also, please take note of the news item regarding the 2010 CD. You must start with 2009 first.
Roy is nearly there with the new version though which will make it so much simpler for everybody.
Hello brothers!!!
Very thanks for you program. It’s very good program. And thank you very much for taking your time to this selfless work.
Your brother
Oscar
Hi
I’m pretty new to the Mac world (started on thurday..) and the WT 2010 CD has arrived today. I see there are some problems with both Lion and WT 2010.
If I really want to install it, what steps should i follow?
Is it better to wait a few weeks for a new version of WTL for Mac?
Thanks,
Filipe
Dear Filipe Barreiros, everything you have to know and do is on this site.
All worked for me and i’m not a geniues
Greets from Belgium, Kris
I have done the terminal fix on my login screen and it works great, however on my wife’s login screen (on the same mac of course) terminal says “no such file or directory” and the keyboard does not work properly there. (Note neither screen is administrator level). Any thoughts before your highly anticipated 2.0 release.
Thank you for your work,
Jeremy
How can I run two versions i.e. Spanish and English on mac?
Dear Rachel!
i have installed wl for Mac on my iMAC with OS X 10.6.8 and its running fine.
Yesterday i bought a new Mac Book Pro with the same OS X 10.6.8 but nothing works, i can install the WT lib but it dosn’t open.
Help!!!
Thanks a lot
Hi everyone,
In order to fix the keyboard mapping problem, open the Terminal and type the following command (case sensitive) :
xmodmap -pke > .XmodMap
This is it, reboot WTLib and everything should be ok.
Best regards.
Thank you oreglio, I don’t know anything about unix code but I copy/pasted that in my wife’s login screen terminal and the keyboard works fine.
Thanks again,
Jeremy
Hi Roy & Rachel,
First, thanks so much for all of your hard work! Sadly, I have not been able to get the fix to work for Lion. I used the copy & paste method each time but it always says “no such file or directory”. I relaunched Library anyway, just in case, & the keyboard problem is still there. I’m on a year old Macbook Pro. Any thoughts? If necessary I will wait for the new program, but would appreciate any input.
Thanks again!
Phyllis
Hi Brother Roy,
First of all I really appreciate your work on this app for Mac to run the Watchtower Library, I usually use a virtual machine to run the CD but now with this app I hope run it without the VM. Unfortunately I not able to install the CD into my Mac following your instructions. I’m using Lion OSX
Thanks in advance.
Sincerely
Freddy Perez

Dear Brother Roy,
I just got a Macbook air (first time using Apple) and I’m having problems installing the Watchtower Library 2010. I understand that there is a another way to solve this through the 2009 library. Because I did not have the 2009 version installed yet, I tried to do this, but am getting errors. When I try to use your program it says that it has encountered a serious problem. And if I try to open the setup.exe file of the 2009 cd (via cd sharing) I only get a text file. What am I doing wrong? I tried to followed the steps you presented, but without success.
Thank you very much in advance, brother.
Best regards, from Holland,
Nathaly
Holà hermano Perez,
Could you please explain what is happening when you try to install the application. That way we can help you to make it work. Can you install the CD, or the setup won’t start at all?
Hallo zus Nathaly,
The first step is to set up CD sharing, then start the application; then as soon as you insert the CD the setup should start(You shouldn’t have to click the setup.exe file). Then you can follow the prompts to install the 2009 version. Once that done, you can replace the 2009 data with the 2010 data.(following these instructions: http://watchtowerlibraryformac.info/en/pages/3-news/latest/44-updating-to-2-1-edition)
Hope this is helpful, Seb
Hi brother Towns,
Have you tried Oreglio’s method( 2 posts above yours), it seems to be working. I dont have Lion yet so I didnt test it but I hope it works for you.
Seb
After applying Lion OS update to 10.7.1, the fix no longer works.
Let me correct my previous post. When you quit the Watchtower Library and restart the application, the keyboard no longer works properly. The only way to get it to work correctly again is restarting the computer. Please help.
Thanks
I cannot successfully install Watchtower Library 2010 from the branch. When I launch the watchtower Library from your site, I receive the following Program Error: The program WTLibrary.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
I have watched your videos but I have a new Apple Macbook Pro with LION OS operating system and I can’t follow the instructions on the videos. I’m also a new Apple user so many steps are not intuitive to me. I hope you can help me as I would like to install both the English and Spanish version.
I only tried the English version so far.
Thank you.
Thank you for all your hard work. I have one small problem in that under my wife’s user the “Home” information does not show up. There is no daly text and the school schedule for the week is missing. Under my user it is fine. Can anyone explain how to fix this?
For those trying to update 2010 data on Lion here is the process. It is not like Snow Leopard the file structure is eliminated and now resides within a .app file.
Open Finder at the top menu select “Go”, then “Go to Folder…” type in the following “/Macintosh HD/Users/TYPE YOUR HOME NAME HERE/Libary/Application Support/” TYPE YOUR HOME NAME HERE should be replaced with the name next to the house in the finder window (this is for those unfamiliar with the term home name).
You will find a file Watchtower Library.app
Right click this app and select Show Package Contents Navigate to drive_c/Program Files/Watchtower/Watchtower Library 2009/E
At this point open another finder window and insert the 2010 WT disk find the rs_data and copy then past to the above separate finder window directory E. Make sure you select replace.
Reboot your machine. You should be all set.
Tried the suggestions to fix this keyboard thing but nothing is working. Did the “fix” on this site and it worked right once then when I went to reopen the keyboard went crazy, so i tried this one
xmodmap -pke > .XmodMap
it worked the first time I tried to search but the 2nd time it reverted back to the cray keyboard…
Any other ideas? I’m on lion 10.7.1
Thanks!
I am having the same problem too, ran the fix xmodmap -pke > .XmodMap, and when I reboot the computer and load WT Library, keyboard works fine, if I close it and open it again, it goes crazy, and the only way to get it to work like normal again is by rebooting the computer, very annoying, anyone found out whats causing this problem?
Hi, My installation seemed to be going along just fine, but when it got to the last dialog box (where there is the “finish” button) another box suddenly popped up and there was an error message that something had caused an error and the application was going to shut down. there was something about maybe a “wine” deficiency?? I thought it was a joke at first. So I got it all closed down, ejected the 2010 WT cd that I was using (thinking maybe the problem was i’d left it in too long), went to Finder & opened the WT application but immediately that error message came up & I had to shut it down again. I did look in my Utilities to make sure I had that X11. this is my first Mac, I am virtually a village idiot trying to make my way through this, but if you have any suggestions I would appreciate it! I don’t know what I’ll do if I don’t have my WT Library to do my research with! Thanks!
Hey Michelle, you can’t install WT library CD-ROM 2010 version normally, you need to modify your wine configuration. There is instructions to do it on the upgrading to 2010 feedback page, go take a look there.
Hi. After I’ve update to Lion, I can no longer type in “æ, ø, å.” Just to let you know. Otherwise, THANKS for doing all this. :)
Kind regards your brother Andreas from Denmark.
Hello,
I have successfully install WTLFM on my Mac with Lion and updated to WTL 2010.
I am curious if there is a way to increase the startup of WTLFM? Reason I say this, After I launch WTLFM across the top it says Watchtower Library. Like it is loaded, but it task about 30 to 40 seconds for the library to show up. I did notice my cpu process just about 100% during that time.
Are there any settings I can change to help this issue?
Hi. I installed Lion on my Mac (no Upgrade from Snow Leopard) and now wtlfm will Not Start wt 2009. I installed Version 2009 in a normal Way, but if i Press the wtlfm Button it will Not Start.
Pleas help, what can i do?
B.r. Steve
Say I am from Corvallis, Oregon USA, and f I can help a little to help I will pitch in.

Hi. I installed the watchtower 2008 on my mac (lion) and it works good, but I have a problem with the watchtower 2010. It’s installed but when I open it only shows a grey screen. What does that mean? Do you have any suggestions? Thank you for your help,
Trish.
Hi,
thanks for developing the app.
In de last video you say to download the watchtower app from the app store.
But i cannot find it ? Is there maybe a difference between the Dutch selection and the rest of the world ? (US or so ?).
If so, is it possible to download the app somewhere else ?
Thanks,
Sylvester
Hi.
Thanks for all your work! I have used the keyboard fix that the website suggests, but I still have problems with certain characters – ‘a’ and ‘r’ do not work…
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
James.
Is there support for non-English versions of the Watchtower Library? More specifically, 2 language support (i.e. English and Spanish).
I created an “S” folder in “Library/Applcations Support/Watchtower Library/drive_c/Program Files/Watchtower/Watchtower Library 2009/” like the “E” folder and copied over the “rS_data” folder from from the Spanish CD-ROM into the “S” folder. (Note is uses a capital “S” in “rS_data”, not sure if it’s case sensitive.) I copied over the other files from the “E” folder as I could not locate them on the CD-ROM. Finally, I created a customized “Watchtower Library Application Menu” for the Spanish library called “Watchtower Library 2010 – Español” pointing to the “S” folder and set to launch when selected. However, every time it is selected it just launches the English language library.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Hi Roy, I just bought a macbook pro 2011, and when migrated from my old mac 2008, everything went ok, but when typing anything on WTL it types different characters. What can I do?
Thanks so much for your help.
For the ones having trouble with their keyboard layout, apply the Terminal fix described in post 11 of this page, after installing XmodMap also through Terminal as described in the main instructions.
However, when you’re done using the Library, make sure you DO NOT quit the program with the usual ⌘-Q, since this will cause the keyboard layout to mess up. Instead, always go to the menu Library > Exit to quit the library, and then Quit the application normally. Hope that helps
I eagerly await that app. Thanks for all your hard work.
just wanted to say thanks for your work. I’m sure the society will release the mac version for at least the iPad soon but until then, thanks bro. We only have Mac’s in the house so this is great.
Regarding the keyboard issue I have made an Xmodmap version for the Danish keyboard. You can download it here: www.philipborges.com.
If you want the keyboard for Spanish or any other language you need to manually change the Xmodmap file to be compatible with your native keyboard. It requires a bit of work.
If anybody has problems using the Wathctower Library 2010 edition you can also get help on this site: www.philipborges.com
Feel free to contact me if you have any problems.
Guten Abend,
Thank you brothers. Everyone in my congregation and all the friends I know that use Mac are forever appreciative of you hard work and help with all this. I am not very savvy with computers so If I can figure it out with your instructions than anyone can. You are doing an amazing job, Thanks again!
Am I alone in this or does version 2 no longer support Control-C/V for copy and paste to the Finder under Lion ?
Contextual menus don’t seem to work in version 2 either.
Any suggestions ?
I certainly appreciate all the hard work.
My father has the same problem, but I don’t. I run version 2.0 under Lion and simply select the text I wish to copy (ctrl+c) and in Word or Text Edit I paste the text (cmd+v, not ctrl+v).
Try to paste the copied text into various text editors, like Word, Text Edit or Safari to see if it is a consistent behaviour.
To anyone who has problems running Watchtower Library on Mac, go to my website and see how you can install it.
This is meant as an added help to Roy’s site.
Thank you very much for the time spent to get this to MAC users. One question: Has anyone had any success getting two language copies to sync to one another?
Hello Roy, first of all thank you for all of your hard work. My whole family are mac users and we have successfully used your program on our other computers to our enormous benefit. However, on my personal apple I am having some problems. I have downloaded on my 10.5.8 mac the v1.3. I am not very tech savvy but the first CD library I installed was the 2010 Library. I did this before you posted about the problems with the 2010 library (I have been busy since then). Because this has problems I was going to use your work around. However I never installed the 2009 watchtower library and am having trouble doing this now so that I can replace the rs_data folder. When I drag the setup.exe to the icon on the dock, the program opens the 2010 version and I get windows saying the installer is initializing and then that the installer is already running. Any help would be appreciated greatly.
Dear Ben, Please go to our forum for instructions on how to synchronise found here
Dear Tyler, The 2010 problem is no longer a problem with version 2.0 of WTLFM. Please go to the home page of this website to download it. Then follow the instructions in our new forum
Dear developers, I’d like to send you a huge thank you for this application!
Previously I was using CrossOver but that stopped working with every new WTL version so I had to upgrade. This software is much more usable and even elegant at that. So nice that you offer this for free!
Version 2.0 works fine so far on a MacBook Pro with Lion (10.7.1) and Library 2010. Didn’t observe any keyboard hick-ups (German layout) when searching and copying text. Or when does that problem appear?
Hello :)
I’m new to the truth. I have been looking forward to getting the Watchtower Library on my Mac. It was a true blessing that I found your web site. I had no problems getting it on my Mac with your help. Jehovah will surely bless you for this wonderful thing you have given the brothers and sisters. Thank you so much!
Great work thanks. Small lion glitch, Library will not run with a Dvorak keyboard. It reverts to qwerty. Hope you can help us. Many thanks
Where is the version 2.0? Works?
Hello Bro’s and Sis’,
I loaded this and it works well…thank you for making this possible.
Is there a way to cut and paste from the wt library running in WTLFM and paste into my Pages word processor on mac? I copy to my clipboard and when I go to Pages and hit command v the option to paste does not highlight…am I doing something wrong? or is this not possible. Thanks,
Brian
I just installed under LION. I am curious/concerned about the WineMachineType name in the install path (USER>Library>Application Support>Watchtower Library for MAC>. I tried several times and got various results for the WineMachineType name preceding “.watchtowerlibraryformac” including: Additive Breakaway, Botryoidal Hostler, Confounded Reduction, Criminal Salaam, Inmost Varicosity, Ophthalmic Penni, Parenu Stationer, Tawny Broomstick, Tawny Ventilation, Wonderful Footfall. What do these mean? Should I be concerned? (I have screen captures I can email.) – Java, USA
I love version 2. I have helped some brothers install it on their computers. I have a question, Is there a way to get it to open automatically when I turn on my computer?
I seem to be having the same problem Brian is describing. I cannot copy and paste either to Pages or the generic text edit. Oh and thank you so much for 2.0!
I am having the same copy and paste issues. Earlier in a post, it was mentioned that X11 may be the culprit, so I installed X Quartz, which will be used instead of X11. However, this produced no better results. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. WT is the last program I need MS for, so am looking forward to being able to copy paste. Thank you for all your hard work.
First – thank you brothers for all your hard work in making this program.
I just got a Macbook Pro running Lion OSX 10.7.2. I installed Watchtower Library for Mac and then followed the instructions to install Watchtower Library 2010. (I didn’t think it was still necessary to first install the 2009 version and then add the data from the 2010 version – I hope I was right about that). For some reason it now shows two copies of the Watchtower Library 2010 on the small wooden shelf. Maybe I did something wrong and installed it twice.
The real problem though is that when I select text from an article in the library and then copy it, nothing is copied. The clipboard is empty. Is this a known problem or am I doing something wrong? THANK YOU.
To Mark Peery. to have the Watchtower Library for Mac open automatically when you turn on your computer. I think that you can set this up in the System Preferences for your computer. Open System Preferences, select “Users and Groups”, make sure your account is selected, and then select the button “Login Items”. From there you can add any application that you want to open when you turn on your computer (which is essentially the same as when you log in).
Hello. I somehow have installed two copies of the Watchtower Library 2010. How can I remove the one?
Thanks
I don’t know what happened, but the cut and paste now works.
Hi friends. I think I have a fix for the copy paste issues. This worked for me. I can now copy & paste to Pages and textedit.
Mac OS X 10.7.2 & WT Library for Mac v2.0
Shut down WT Library for Mac.
Go to finder/option key+Go/Library/Preferences. Select and move the following preferences to the desktop so you will still have them if needed.
uk.co.pioneeringsoftware.Watchtower-Library-for-Mac.LSSharedFileList
uk.co.pioneeringsoftware.Watchtower-Library-for-Mac
Re-start WT Library for Mac. The program will re write the preference upon start up. This works for me. If it works, you can then delete the pref files you copied to the desktop.
Thanks for 2.0 this is great. One question I just reeived WT library 2011. how do I remove 2010?
Hi brothers and sisters! Thank you for this provision! I was using Crossover, and when I upgraded to Lion it would not work and went thru lots of steps, and it still would not work. Saw your lnk, and in 20 minutes I was up and running. I tried the sound, See the Good Land maps, and “extract from clipboard” (My new favorite command). All worked well. And I was able to copy and paste into Word. One thought: are the bros and sis with the copy/paste issues trying COMMAND/C instead of CONTROL/C? Such a small thing, but maybe folks don’t know about this simple change running a windows app on intel macs. Anyway, THANK YOU!!!! Jehovah’s blessings.
Bill, Jacksonville, Florida, USA
Brothers, I just received a copy of the WTLib CD 2011 from a friend at the branch. I downloaded your WT Lib for Mac v 2.0 for 2010 and inserted the 2011 CD to install. Everything looked fine and appeared to install, but when I click on the icon nothing happens.
Thanks for your response.
Hello, I am in the same position as the user above. I received a copy of WTLib 2011 via Dropbox. I downloaded WT Library for Mac at the same time. The first time I ran the WTLfM the shelf opened up fine. I then tried to move across the auto run.exe thinking that the 2011 edition had completed it’s download – it hadn’t!
Now that it has downloaded fully, when I run WT Lib for Mac the shelf appears but then it crashes and an error message comes up (I won’t paste the whole thing here it is messy looking).
I tried removing and reinstalling the WTLfM without success. I tried going into Library> and deleting references to the program there and this did not bring success either when I reinstalled.
Is there a way to remove WTLfM and start afresh?
Dear Brothers, Please take a look at our new blog site for a discussion of this problem here
Just wondering if you have a fix for WT Library 2011—it does not seem to open?
Dear Tim, Please see the new blog site article here
Thank you so very much for taking the time to write this program! I just loaded it on my Mac and for the first time I have access to the Watchtower Library at home. Thank you, thank you, thank you! “May there come to be a perfect wage for you from Jehovah”! Your sister, Eve
Thank you so much for taking the time to develope this program, I hated using Parallels!
Dean
How about adding a “Help” option, to the help site, in the left side navigation list. I found the link by digging around. Maybe just replace “Feddback” with “Help” since feedback is covered there as well.
http://help.watchtowerlibraryformac.info/
I just put the Watchtower on my new MacBook Pro OS X 10.7.2 but when I go to search the words just come up jumbled. It’s not typing what I’m writing. I am using the ‘11 English addition.
Is here a fix for this?? How do I get it? I’m so excited to have this new computer and the new Library but I really want them to work together :)
Thanks in advance for your feedback!!
Hello
Many thanks for your efforts. I have a little problem: copy/paste doesn’t work. (v2.1 and library 2011)
Everything is fine.
Warm Greetings from Switzerland…
Pascal
Hello
I found the solution for my problem. Thanks the great forum.
Pascal
Thank you for the 2.1 update. I just downloaded it and successfully installed the 2010 WTLib in both English and Russian. Being new to the MacBook Pro, i am thrilled to be able to use the WTlib, but I noticed the synchronize function does not work between the two. Someone said it worked in the past so I was wondering if this will be addressed?
Otherwise it’s brilliant! Many thanks for your generosity!
Jane
I tried to install WT Lib 2011 on a Mac Air running 10.7.2 with the new 2.1 version. I noticed a bug. Since the Air does not have a CD ROM drive I copied the data into a folder and ran via USB. However – if the root folder is not named WTLIB11E the install will quit. You will see wineserver start but wine then immediately quits – you have to name the folder correctly.
Thanks again for all your hard work!
I love watchtower library for mac, because before this i had to go through parallels desktop and that just slowed down the whole computer because windows slows downs everything. Thank you so much for taking the time to figure this out. You are awesome.
I’ve downloaded and installed version 2.1. It works just great. Thanks so much. I have seen a comment or two regarding tswin. I would really like to run it on my mac too. Can someone share the installation instructions?
Thanks,
JM
Dear Kate, Not sure what has gone on. Lion with 2011 and WTLFM version 2.1 should work fine. Try uninstalling and starting again. Their is a post on our new forum here that tells you how to do this.
Dear Jane, Please see our ‘how to’ on synchronisation in our forum here
Pascal Cattin i would like to know how you did it..
The CTRL + C doesn’t make sense on a mac, please help me fix this.
Hello:
I have installed bookshelf and made a few attempts to install the WTLib. The problem is that with my previous attempts to install, there are now three WTLib icons on the shelf. I cannot seem to delete them from the shelf. I tried uninstalling WTlib all together, but the extra icons remains.
How can I delete them from the shelf?
Thank you.
Dear Brother Roy,
Thanks for an excellent program and for keeping it up-to-date!
Copy-paste works fine for me if I do the Windows Control-C command in WTLib, and then in Microsoft Word for Mac, paste with the usual Command-V for the Mac. (Lion 10.7.2 & WTLib 2.1)
Thanks also for manifesting an excellent “receive free-give free” spirit in making the program available for so many appreciative friends at no charge. Good job!
Your brother,
JD Smith
Dear Soren, Please see the forum article regarding copy and paste issues here
Dear Dave R, To learn how to delete unwanted Watchtower Libraries please see here
Dear JD Smith, Thank you very much for your comments.
Thank you, Rachel!
I am new to Mac. At first, I was unable to find the “library” and “application support” folders. With the recent upgrade to Lion, these folders are not so obvious. However, I found the following forum very helpful and straightforward.
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3202674?start=0&tstart=0å
Thank you so much for the help!
Dave
i can not copy some text and paste it on my open office program, is a thing i can do on a windows exploitation systems (i like to do this when i have exposer )
I just manually installed the 2011 spanish version ( the auto install didn’t work) now I have two versions. How to do I uninstall the 2010 version? Many thanks for all your fine handwork!
Dear Dave, Please see the post in our forum regarding copy and paste.
Dear Ramiro, It’s easy to do! There are instructions here on how to find and delete one of the Libraries.
I just installed the new 2.1 version and wanted to let you know that it runs English and Japanese together with no problem. We don’t have the new Japanese version yet but it syncs just fine with the old one. Thanks for the fix.
To search in Japanese only I cut and paste Japanese in the search bar, since you can’t input the Japanese with the program. Been doing it for years, no problem.
Thank you VERY much for this. Ive downloaded the dog file and dragged it into the apps folder. after inserting the cd into the drive I try to open the application using the icon. The little wooden desktop opens momentarily then closes unexpectedly. I can’t get it to stay open like in the video.
I feel a little lame after it looks like everyone else has had no problems with this portion. Lol. Thanks Again
I did deinstall it twice now and still can’t get it to open.
Dmg.
Muy buenas, he instalado Watchtower 2011 y todo bien hasta que escribo algo y pone lo que le da la gana, parece que no reconoce el teclado y pone lo que le da la gana. Espero su repuesta.
I just bought my 1st Mac, MacBook Pro. I’ve installed the WTLIB 2011 but I’m having problems with the keyboard being garble under search. You mentioned that this problem is being fixed only for a british keyboard, what about an american one :)
Thanks for any help

Greetings! Wt for Mac saves a lot of time in research, but I’m having trouble; when I try to copy & paste nothing happens – no key strokes seem to work. Also, when I try to print the only thing that prints is the Wt Library for Mac logo. Can you help me sort this out?
What steps should I take to install the Watchtower Library 2011?
Thanks for your hard work on this project. It is nice to not have to run an additional OS on my mac to support the library. I am running into one problem that I haven’t seen a post on. In many instance the 2.1 version does not support copy past from the library to any other application on Lion. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks Patrick
Does anyone know if you can bring your “Favorites” forward from one version of WTL to the next? I tried doing a copy and paste in the WTL for Mac application virtual machine of the files but it will not let me select any of the menu options at the top of the screen.
Patrick,
I had the same problem a while back. Saw a post that said to open any doc in pages, text edit, etc. type some characters/copy/paste right back into the doc. After that the copy paste should work all the time. It worked for me. I think it’s X11. It works until I do a OS software update. Then I have to do it once, that’s all. Hope this helps. OSX10.7.3
Your probably on it. But thought I’d give you a heads up on this(X11 and Mountain Lion). Not sure how it effects development(if at all) for Mountain Lion. Take Care and thanks for your hard work in all this. As a 15 year Mac owner I truly appreciate it.

Since I loaded Watchtower Library 2011 onto my Mac ( which is running Lion), I can no longer print from the Watchtower Library. Is there a fix??
I was printing fine with 2010 Watchtower Library.
A small question,
I am running WT on my mac which has Lion. I downloaded the fix for X11, entered it in the terminal en rebooted the library.
Now, most keys on the keyboard seem to work fine, except for a view, like the keys ‘a’ and ‘r’. I can’t typ those.
Any help would e welcome.
Your work is greatly appreciated by us, thank you!
There seems to be a problem with the copying from Watchtower Library 2011 and pasting into a word document.
Dear Brothers, We have a separated forum where many of your questions i.e. copy and paste issue, have been answered. The link to this forum is here
Hello:
Thanks for the hard work in our behalf. My WTLIB for Mac works good. However, when I chose the option to keep the icon on my dock, it only works once. After that, to start WTLIB again I need to remove it from my dock and start it using Launchpad. Is anyone else having the same problem? Minor dilemma, really. Just wondering if anyone knows of a fix.
Thanks!
Dave
I have a year old macbook pro I am running Lion 10.7.2 I have installed version 2.1 and downloaded library 2011 everything worked fine but my keyboard doesn’t work properly. I have been reading all the comments but can’t seem to get anything to work. I am also computer illiterate and don’t know where the “terminal” is or how to reboot the program
I cant seem to copy anything from WT Library
Hi I’m having trouble. Every time i open up watchtower library for mac the application does not respond. I’m using the build for snow leopard. Thank you for any assistance you can give.
Mario
After implementing the Terminal fix in post 11 now incessantly an error window comes up saying X11 quit unexpectedly. No matter if I hit ‘Ignore’ or ‘Reopen’ it pops up again 10 sec. later. Nobody else has posted this problem so don’t see an answer.
I have had numerous other problems installing the program including an inability to drag and drop WTLib for mac into the applications folder, receiving an error message about “winermaker” being in use.
Any ideas?
Carl, I was having some problems along those lines. I downloaded quartz/installed/ran. It solved the x11 issues for me. The only time you may have to open it again, is after a OS update. Then it will take over again.
For the error about wine being in use; if that happens again, try closing Watchtower Lib. for Mac/open Activity monitor/look for wine running as a process. select/quit process. Watchtower should open and run fine.
Hope this helps……..
Thank you for the help, Mark. I was able to load it. New problem though :) I can’t get the application to expand to fit my screen. The normal WTLib screen only fills 3/4 of my screen and won’t let me expand it. Oddly, the rest of the screen into which I wish to expand it is white(meaning I don’t see my desktop or any other windows behind it) so it is part of the application but I don’t see any view options or something like that to change size settings.
Hopefully that explanation makes sense.
Carl, Glad we made some progress. I’ve never run into that before. Let’s try a couple of things: first go to finder/option-go/library. in preferences find the following files: (uk.co.pioneeringsoftware.Watchtower-Library-for-Mac.plist /uk.co.pioneeringsoftware.Watchtower-Library-for-Mac.plist.lockfile /uk.co.pioneeringsoftware.Watchtower-Library-for-Mac.LSSharedFileList/ uk.co.pioneeringsoftware.Watchtower-Library-for-Mac.LSSharedFileList.plist.lockfile. Delete these. They should be be recreated on start-up. If you’re not sure, just move them to the desktop. Start WT Lib for Mac. If it works, just delete the files you moved to the desktop. If that doesn’t work, I’d probably try a re-install. I hope this helps……Mac OSX 10.7.3
As a note, I’m in Canada:) Unfortunately I don’t understand any of your instructions! Ha. Right from finder I don’t see the selections you suggest to make.
Carl, If you are running lion, close WT Lib for Mac. Open finder. While finder is open, hold down the option key and select go from the menu bar. Choose library. Double click the library. Select preferences. Find the files: uk.co.pioneeringsoftware.Watchtower-Library-for-Mac.plist
uk.co.pioneeringsoftware.Watchtower-Library-for-Mac.plist.lockfile
uk.co.pioneeringsoftware.Watchtower-Library-for-Mac.LSSharedFileList
uk.co.pioneeringsoftware.Watchtower-Library-for-Mac.LSSharedFileList.plist.lockfile. Delete these files. They will be re-created on WT Lib for Mac startup.
Start WT Lib for Mac. It may work. If not, just do a fresh install.
Hope this helps. Mark, Arizona.
I’m sure I’m missing something but after hitting option-go, there is no library selection listed. I am running Lion.
The messed up keyboard has also returned, unfortunately. Quartz is still running.
Carl,
Perhaps it may be best to use a bit quicker contact method. msgtucson@me.com
I just wanted to mention that I’m noticing that Synchronization (Synchronisation) between different language versions seems to not be working properly for me in 2.×. I’m running the 2011 English and 2010 Portuguese Watchtower Libraries and I’m seeing it in both Lion and Snow Leopard (at first I thought I just saw it fail in Lion but it turns out it’s failing in SL too…).
Wondering if DDE or whatever mechanism is being used for sync between libraries is not functioning or not enabled in this current version of WINE?
Let me know if you need any more help or information.
Thanks!
-Evan
P.S. I couldn’t see any other place to leave feedback, and the old developer site seems to be offline now, so I figured I’d better leave it here. Let me know if there’s a better place to file bug reports. Thanks!
Just wanted to say thanks. Upgraded to lion yesterday, went to work on a talk today..Yikes. But the keybaord fix worked great. Thanks for your help!
Thanks for you work. The keyboard fixed most of the keys but a, r and a couple of other keys do not work.
If you can remedy this we would be greatful.
I just upgraded Lion to version 10.7.3 (had 10.7.2). It seams not possible to open WTLib for Mac anymore (version 2.1), because Apple is directly closing down the app after clicking it. Is this due to the fact that the system upgrade closes out WT Lib for Mac because it’s not from an ‘Apple admitted’ source? Or is it more probable that WTLib 2.1 is simply not compatible with system-update to 10.7.3? Not pleased, because just sat down to prepare a talk.. :-(
Martin, I am running 10.7.3, The app works fine. what exactly does it do?
Two other users have made posts regarding not being able to copy inside of wt lib and then paste outside of it to a native mac app such as pages or text editor. I have the same problem. It sounds like it is being worked on given one of the latest news posts, but I couldn’t quite tell if it is this problem exactly that is being targeted. For me (and it sounds the same for the other two posters), it is not an intermittent problem; it never works. Any input would be appreciated. This problem does not occur when running wt lib under Crossover (but then again, Crossover costs about $60.
Thank you, brothers, for sacrificing your time to make things more convenient/affordable for the rest of us. I don’t do any programming, but I used to work in instructional technology and desktop support. If you need help writing some documentation or instructions, I can try (time and relevant skills willing) to be helpful there.
On the note of instructions, I tried to read the instructions for installing wintm, but the link no longer works.
Hi wrote yesterday but the post has not shown up.
I get the forum comments sent to my apple mailbox as an RSS feed and I’ve noticed, what looks like russian spam messages alongside virtually every post .
Looking on the website I don’t see them. What I want to know iif you are filtering them after the RSS feed of if you think I have a problem with the feed.
Thanks
Hi Roy
I’m sure you are aware that the latest Crossover runs the 2011 Library. I hope one day our brothers will port the library over to mac. But, thank you for all the effort you’ve put into this and still do.
I can’t download the dmg. It says I don’t have permission to download it. :(
I’m running macbook pro on lion, just installed the 2011 disc with help from this website. Thank you for your hard work to make this work on mac brothers, no excuse not to study now.
Thank you so much brother. V2.1 works wonderfully, no glitches whatsoever! It’s so great not to have to use any work arounds, it just works from the start. I appreciate all your hard work, may Jah bless.
Thank you. I just bought my mac and was worried that I would not be able to run my WT Library. Thank You.
Watchtower Library on MAC is wonderful! thank you for your hard work on this. I just did a software update on my mac earlier today and now the library crashes every time I try to open it. Am I missing something? I’m running the latest mac OS as of today (5-9-12) Thanks again!
Oops! nevermind. I figured it out. works fine!! :)
I’ve attempted to download the watchtower app and got “no results” when I searched for it. I typed “watchtower library for mac”. Also do I need to purchase Lion to get it to work on my computer. I’m looking forward to using the library on my Mac! Thanks so much. Are you a brother?
The problem with copy+paste any content of WT Lib for Mac is real. I don’t know any brother or sister who have working version for that. Only way to have something out from WT Lib for Mac is to make a screenshot.

Now, available in english and russan for starters, you can get the Watchtower Library Online version here:
http://wol.jw.org/
This is an official release (as you can see by the url). The Watchtower publications are however limited to 2000–2012 (current issue).
The good news is, it works great on mac (at least if you have a modern browser), on iPhone, and probably other mobile devices like Android.
I’m sure more languages will be added in the near future.
How do I enlarge the text size in the search publications window. That’s the window on the left side of screen?
Thank you
Joe
I can’t copy and paste at all, even using control. Tried everything.

Here’s a screencast, above, of my problem.
Thanks for all your amazing work on this. We all REALLY appreciate it.
Mountain Lion Bug Fix???
I just upgraded to Mountain Lion. Since then, the top box on the window (where you minimize, maximize, and close the application) has disappeared completely. This has rendered the WTLib on Mac almost useless for me since it is off to the side and only a partial view of the screen is visible.
Any ideas?
I realize there is an online WTLib now, but it is limited on the publications available.
Thanks
Hello,
I upgraded to Mountain Lion recently. Since then, I haven’t had any success launching WT Lib. It acts like it is going to launch on the dock (bouncing there for a little bit), then there is nothing. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Oh, and in case it makes a difference… I had 2 Libraries installed (both language versions would launch simultaneously).
I have Microsoft for Mac installed on my computer, but for some reason I’m not able to copy and paste any of the information from WT Library into a Word document. What am I doing wrong?
I had WTLib quit while I was using it with an error message I can’t remember exactly. But upon relaunching, the letters ‘a’ and ‘r’ no longer worked. Has anyone heard of that? I tried the suggested fix of X11 but nothing changed after relaunch.
Did an update on X11 and it fixed the issue.
Hi,
I am needing to upgrade to Mountain Lion but am afraid I’ll loose the functionality of WTLib. How is it running for any of you brothers who have upgraded?
Thank you!
Hello,
listen dear Brothers&Sisters, I have a request.
I do not know if I upgrade to ML. Is this version of the WT operates under the ML? I have a big request for any information. I want to install it on Monday, 9/11. Thank you in advance for your help.
Best Regards from Poland

Does anyone know if the Watchtower for Mac has any problems if I upgrade to Mountain Lion? I have the software but are hesitant unless it works.
I have just purchased a macbook pro with lion. on installing WT library which appeared to work until i typed in search box ..so i thought it had not downloaded ok so put disc back in computer, since then cannot get library to open. tried to follow youtube uninstall video sad to say it was different to my setup. any ideas would be very welcome. fro a 75 yr old bro who is not very bright haha
Have you given up?
There are a couple of issues with Mountain Lion. (OS 10.8.2)
Namely, can’t resize window, and it does not pop to front when clicked on.
I can’t seem to see any new messages.
