Version 2.0 Lack of Progress
By Roy Ratcliffe, February 22, 2011
Hi everyone. Sorry that Roy and I haven’t been around for the last few weeks. We are back!! We guess that some of you might be waiting for the new release of Watchtower Library for Mac. It is on it’s way. I’m afraid it has had to go on the back burner for a while due to other responsibilities. Our apologies for the delay.
This is Roy’s plan, although I don’t fully understand it – maybe you will.
Version 2.0 will have the following features:
- embedded X11 (techno babble for that you won’t need anything else, it will run independently);
- assistance for non-Roman input i.e. Chinese, Kanji, Japanese, Greek etc;
- better printer integration; tracker speed problems;
- various bug features that have been reported i.e. grey screen; double pasting.
If there are any other features that come to mind, please file them as a Feature issue at the developer site or post a comment below. However Roy’s to do list is the Feature and Bug list on the developer site found here.

Hi there brothers.
Thank you for your efforts in programming this for us!
I have a bug, regarding “copy & paste”
When i copy something from WTLib i get pasted twice.
One in original for from WTLib and then a second copy in the standard formatting of Pages or OpenOffice.
How come? Bug fix?
P.S. Running Max OS 10.6.6, XQuartz 2.6.0 (same issue in 10.6.5)
Dear Anders, Thanks very much for this post. We have it on the ‘to do’ list for the next version.
I’m running Snow Leopard 10.6 Watchtower Library is very often crashing. It’s always when I do a search that the library crash. I uninstall Watchtower Library 2009 and reinstall it. I did a check disk even reinstall Snow Leopard it still crash frequently. When it crash I reinstall Watchtower Library 2009. I uninstall it and then I reinstall it.
Thanks for your programming efforts for all of us. (I would be clueless in programming!)

Hello Brother and Sister Ratcliff:
Thank you for all of your hard work and sacrifices in regards to this project. Just wanted to say thank you while we are eagerly looking forward to your next release.
Thanks,
Josh (Seattle, WA)
Dear br. RATCLIFFE
I have a new Apple (iMac with Intel Core i3) and want to run (of course) the WT 2010 cd. Your knowledge is also well known by A. users and therefor they gave me your site adress. So i started with your program to run the windows cd. But everytime i get the “a serious problem” message. Probally there is aBug? I did make a screen picture. Do you know a sollution. Many thanks in avantage from a thankfull brother in The Netherlands (Rotterdam). You can mail me…
I have tried everything to get the WT 2010 Library to work and so far I have come up emptied handed.
Have you come up with a solution and I have missed it?
Your brother,
RICH.
Dear Normand, Could you get hold of another CD from a brother and try installing that one? It could be a fault on your CD.
Dear Wim, Have you installed 2009 first? As you can read here, there is a problem with the 2010 and WLFM. Roy is working on a fix, but you can do a temporary workaround as mentioned on that page.
Dear Richard, As with Wim, can you follow the instructions found in the link. You need to install 2009 first.
Thank you so much for your hard work. Without your job my Mac would be partly useless. I hope you’ll release the new version soon. Thank you for sacrificing your time for all of us.
Alessandro

I have a new IMac. Posted before. Followed this sites instruction with the 2009 disc then the 2010 disc. I have the “serious problem” grey window. also when I try to scroll the window races at breakneck speeds up and down and the mouse will is not able to stop it. This is the worst when I am reading the Psalms. Double pasting is the least of the issues I am facing.
Thanks for you insights.
Your brother,
David
I have the same issue as Anders. When I copy something from WTLib I get pasted twice. I noticed it last year probably after an Mac OS update. Just been dealing with it, but thought I would add my comments.
Thank you for all your hard work, it is very much appreciated. It is a blessing to have the WTLib available for Mac users.
Thanks for providing this, I’ve wanted it so long! Looking forward to the 2010/11 version.
Going to elder school next week and was hoping to find a way to install WT Libraary on my Ipad for homework assignments.
Possibility for future developments?
Thanks for your site. Keep up the good work.
Thank you Alessandro, David, Kent and Stacy for your comments and feedback. The copy & paste issue will be dealt with on the next version.
Dear John, Have you seen Roy’s post here regarding iPad, iPhone etc?
Hi Roy!
I need: step-by-step instructions on how to use the copy & paste function.
I’m running WT CD Lib on a Mac (your workaround for 2010 – thank you soooo much!) and I want to copy from it and paste into Word. Even if it pastes twice in the meantime it would be better than not being able to paste at all!
Thank you,
Jenny
Dear Jenny, WTLFM works like Windows. So to copy, you highlight the text, then Ctrl C to copy. However, Word for Mac follows the Mac way of doing things. So instead of Ctrl P to paste, it is Command P. So Ctrl C in WTLFM, Command P to paste it into Word.
Jenny,
Just a little correction. Control C is correct for copy in Watchtower Library, but its Command V for paste. The command button is just to the left of your space bar and the control button is three over from your space bar.
Command P is actually to print. Oops.
If you can’t get the hang of the keyboard shortcuts to Copy & Paste then you can use the menus…
1. Select the text you want in Watchtower Library by clicking and dragging over it.
2. In the Watchtower Library window there is a menu in the upper left corner called “Edit” if you click there and choose “Copy” it accomplishes the same as Control C. This “Edit” menu is still in the Watchtower Library window NOT on the Mac side.
3. Switch over to Word on the Mac side and you’ll find a similar menu in the upper left corner of your screen that says “Edit” and it will contain the option “Paste.”
Note: It will paste twice.
Phillip
Philip, thanks very much. Sorry Jenny!
After installing the 2009 version (since 2010 does not work so far) the application does not launch. Even when I click Applications, and then Watchtower Library 2009 – it is present there – nothing happens.
Running 10.6.6
What to do?
Thank you brothers..
I have a problem running the library. I installed it fine and for a few days it was working beautifully. One day I opened the program and allI see now is little boxes where the words would be in the main box where the articles would appear. Please help.
I am a new mac user. I just installed the disk image app and am able to launch wtlib for mac in English, however, I would like to install another version of wtlib (in a diff language). How do I do this? Also, will it still sync?
Thank you ahead of time and for this app- very helpful!
Rae
I’m a new mac user and I have followed the directions given on the site, however when I click on the WT Lib icon in my applications folder, it opens because I have the options bar on the top of my screen but I don’t see anything else at all. I was wondering if you could please help me out.
Thanks so much in advance, I would be ECSTATIC to have access to the WT on my mac.
Terence
Dear Br. Roy,
I just want to express how happy I am to have found your program, thank you so much for making it available. I thought I would need to run Bootcamp and install Windows which I really did not want to do. This has made it so easy.
Thanks again.
Renate
hey guys,
i’ve been using the library for mac for a while now and it has always worked great (ex always pastes twice), but i just got a new macbook pro, im running OS X 10.6.7, and X11 2.3.6, and it wont run properly on the new machine. i inserted the 2009 disk, opened the downloaded application from your site, it seems to instal, when i try to run it nothing happens.
sounds like the same issue Christian Larsen posted about 5 days ago.
thanks for your time and energy helping us all out!
much love
Dear Rae,
From what I understand, the Watchtower Library for Mac is working fine right now in English.
If thats the case, to install another language should be as simple as inserting the CD-ROM with the new language, then opening Watchtower Library for Mac.
If the “setup” window doesn’t appear try Roy’s manual solution:
Open the CD-ROM directory (double click on the picture of the CD on your desktop). You will see an executable file called Setup.exe. Drag this into Watchtower Library for Mac’s icon on the dock. This is the manual way to launch programs. Automatic launching relies on seeing a genuine CD, not a copy!
Phillip
Dear Terence,
Did you insert your CD-ROM you obtained from your literature counter? If it went through the install and STILL nothing happens then try this:
1. Open Watchtower Library for Mac.
2. Click on the “Applications” menu at the top of the screen.
3. Choose "" (or whatever language you have installed.
4. If you don’t have the option to choose “Watchtower Library 2009 – English” then the install didn’t go right. You’ll need to install off the CD-ROM one more time. Put the CD back into your computer and it should prompt you. If not then follow these instructions:
Hope that helps!
Phillip
Dear Christian Larsen,
Does the program launch at all? You can tell id the program is “On” by looking at the dock at the bottom of the screen. If the Watchtower Library for Mac icon is there with a little blue dot underneath then it is running. If Watchtower Library for Mac doesn’t even show up or if the blue dot goes on then off… please post back and we’ll work through what the problem might be.
Phillip
Dear Corey,
I understand from your message that everything installed OK and worked.
The problem that you are describing seems to be a problem with Watchtower Library. So what would be best is to uninstall Watchtower Library and re-install.
To do that:
1. Click on Watchtower Library for Mac and let it launch.
2. When the jumbled window appears, close it by clicking the little red button in the upper left corner.
3. Click on the “Applications” menu and choose “Customize”
4. You should see Watchtower Library as the third option.
5. Click it and choose from the right “Remove”
6. Insert your 2009 CD-ROM. If the setup window doesn’t appear in a minute or two then open the CD-ROM directory (double click on the picture of the CD on your desktop). You will see an executable file called Setup.exe. Drag this into Watchtower Library for Mac’s icon on the dock. This is the manual way to launch programs.
7. It will probably ask you to remove the 2009 version. Click yes.
8. Now go through the install instructions listed HERE
Hope that helps. If not post again and we’ll try to help.
Phillip
Phillip,
Thanks for the instructions. Yes, wtlib is working in English. I tried both methods- inserting the cd and then opening wtlib for macs and also dragging the setup.exe file to the wtlib for macs icon. Neither worked, just a message came up that said I needed to close out all version of wtlib before beginning to install the new version.
If this helps- I installed the 2009 English version and then updated with the 2010 rs_data file. The second language I’d like to install is a Croatian version.
Thanks again,
Rae
Hi,
Thx a lot for your work, I really appreciate!
Thomas, France
Hi Philip!
Yes the program is launching and the little blue dot remains turned on. I can se the program in the top bar as well. When I click “Applications” and then choose the WT Lib danish edition, nothing further happens..
If you need any further details please let me know.
I just bought a mac and I am having difficulty installing the 2010 cd.
Please help me.
Thank you
Luchy
Thank you so much for your great work.
Just one thing to ask, if you would be willing to share your knowledge or source code to be able to port it to android platform?
Best regards!
I have been trying to prepare a public discourse and take advantage of the follow feature as listed below but it does not work can you please help me. The wireless keyboard I have does not have Ctrl+Alt+C so I use Ctrl+Option+C. IT does not work as stated below. Nothing happens. I have WTLib 2010 Mac OS 10.6.7.
Thank you very much for your hard work and kind efforts to assist me.
Exercise 14: How do I extract scriptures from text I placed on the Clipboard?
From any Windows program, select and copy to the Clipboard any text that contains valid scripture citations. To extract scriptures from the text now in the Clipboard, in Watchtower Library press Ctrl+Alt+C on the keyboard. The extracted scriptures will appear in Watchtower Library in the document area (4).
Rae,
Two additional questions…
1. Are you first closing the English edition? Use the little red dot in the upper left corner to do that. Then try the install.
2. Are you using the 2009 Croatian WT Library disc? You’ll have to go through the same install process to move to 2010 as you did in English.
So if you answer YES to both the above questions… we’ll try something else.
Phillip
Luis,
I couldn’t get that command to do anything either. But if you’d like to extract something from a block of text you can…
1. Select the block.
2. Press Ctrl + E
3. A little window will appear asking what you’d like to extract.
Hope that helps.
Phillip
Dear Sam,
Its a great idea to port it to android but the foundation of WT Library for Mac is Wine and it will only run on Intel processors. If you’d like more info please read HERE
Phillip
Dear Luchy,
You’ll need to start by installing the 2009 version then the 2010 version. Did you ever get the 2009 Watchtower Library running first?
Phillip
Dear Christian Larsen,
What we can try to do is totally remove the old version of the Watchtower Library then reinstall. Try this:
1. Click on Watchtower Library for Mac and let it launch.
2. Click on the “Applications” menu and choose “Customize”
3. You should see “Watchtower Library 2009 – Danish” as the third option.
4. Click it and choose from the right “Remove”
6. It will probably ask you to remove the 2009 version. Click yes.
7. Now go through the install instructions listed HERE
8. Then do the 2010 patch found
Hope that helps!
Phillip
I just cannot seem to be able to download Watchtower Libaray on my mac!!! I drag the library into my applications, nothing opens, no package, no steps to go thru to accept and load the disk. please help I dont know what I’m doing wrong!
I have been trying to install the 2010 edition unsuccessfully. I saw the workaround using the 2009 edition, but I tried it with the 2007, and when the install screen came up, it still listed it as 2010, and the same error box came up. I’ll wait until the fix is in place as I can boot my mac up as a windows and use the library.
Dear Ellen, Have you double clicked on the WTLFM application to open it? There is a video giving step by step instructions to be found here just ignore any reference to a frameworks package. Hopefully it will help you to see what is going wrong. If not please post here again.
Dear Louis, Is there any way of getting a 2009 CD from someone in the hall? I don’t think the workaround works with 2007.
Hi,
Thanks for the great help in making this amazing software available.
I followed the instructions you provided; it installed, yet, i can’t run the program. Is there a place i should click on, or an icon to load the program?
Hello again Philip.
I’ve still got the same issue after uninstalling / installing..
Maybe I just have to wait for the upgraded version that fixes the 2010 bug..
Hi
We tried to install the 2010 edition (after installing WTLFM) without realising it didn’t run properly. We are trying to start again with the 2009 version but now when we download WTLFM and drag it into applications, when we try to open it, it will not open as it says there is an error. Just wondered if you might be able to help?
Thanks a lot.
Hello,
You guys are awesome!!!!!
Hello,
I just wanted to thank Roy and the others who have made this possible. I really had a hard time getting the library on my mac cause I only had the 2010 cd. But finally tract down a brother from my hall who had one and the rest was smooth sailing (following the instructions given of course). I even updated the rs_folder to the 2010 edition. So once again thank you for your hard work and dedication! :-)
Dear Racheal, It sounds like you haven’t uninstalled everything before trying again. If you take a look at Roy’s video on how to uninstall WTLFM found here, ignoring any reference to ‘frameworks’. Then, starting with the 2009 edition, carry on as per the walk through. I hope it works this time :-)
Thanks a lot Rachel, that was the problem. Now have Watchtower Library on our Mac for the 1st time ever, thanks for all your hard work!
Thank you so much, for all your hard work in developing and porting a wine version installer for Wtlib. I am running successfully English/Japanese 2009 (w/h 2010 rs_folder)…but I have a constant problem, that I haven’t been able to fix. When I try to extract from clipboard, wtlib crashes (or wine crashes I guess). Either way, I have to force quit, then reopen. Is there a work around in extracting scriptures from outside sources (for example, extract scriptures from a ’11 Watchtower pdf files)
Thank you very much.
Philip
Thank you for trying to assist me. If I understood you correctly I should do the following:
1. I should copy (cmd c) a piece of text containing scripture references from my PDF and then open WTLib 2009.
2. Press ctrl e
Question: what part of WTLib do I need to be in when I press ctrl e? I tried it and nothing came up. May I please have a few more details to see how it worked for you.
Thank you very much for your kindness and time.
My dear hard working brothers do you have a solution pending for the 2010 WTLib or is there already a way we can use the disk without the error? I seems as though from some of the comments that there has been an update fixing the problem but I can’t find the new download on your site.
Maybe I am misunderstanding the conversations. Please forgive me if that is the case.
Thank you agin of all of your hard work.
Hey everyone,
I just installed Watchtower Library 2010 on my MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard.
Slightly more involved than 2009, but still doable.
If some of you are interested I could write a temporary tutorial, at least until Roy has the time to update his app…
I won’t do anything if no one wants it, though. If anyone is interested, drop me an email.
sircharlo //AT // gmail //DOT// com
Dear Sadrac, We haven’t heard of this problem before. Can you please file it as a bug in the issues page (link found top right hand side of the homepage). Roy will take a look at this for the next version.
Dear Luis, Have you seen Roy’s workaround found here?
Hello-
It’s great having the wt library on the mac, but I’ve had the same problem with two computers now- no cut and paste feature. I can use the quick keys or the drop down, then go to a word file and nothing pastes. I’m on system 10.6.7 on last years model of imac and macbook pro. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Dear Miles, Cut and paste does work it’s just that within WTLFM it acts like a windows machine. So you have to highlight your text then press Ctrl C. Within your Mac you then press Command V to paste it. The only bug on this version is that in some programs, it pastes twice!! This will be addressed with the next version.
Thank you Rachel,
I really appreciate the hard work of you and your husband. I know that it is not easy to keep up with this site and the many user request. Changing the data folder allows for us to have the most current information from the 2010 CD.
Do you have any idea when the new release form your husband will be available? I know it may take sometime but I am just excited of the new enhancements and fixes soon to come.
Thanks again for all of your assistance.
Hello , I’m a brother in Virginia and i’m new to Mac. But I successfully used your suggestion on downloading from your site and installing WTlib 2009 and have it on my Dock. It works great! Even if it copies and pastes twice in my “Pages”.
Thank you soo much for all the work you put into this. But now I would like to update to 2010. Can you help me understand how I’m to copy the rs-data file with out the 2010 WTlib trying to load itself or do i just let it load and then look for the file after the fact. As you can see I’m not that computer savy. I’m frankly afraid to put the disk in not knowing what will happen.
Right now I believe i understand I’m suppose to delete the 2009 to trash first and then copy and paste the 2010 rs-data folder in it’s place. Is this true?
Thanks for your help ahead of time.
Hi there, I’m also a new Mac user and very much appreciate your instructions in downloading the Watchtower Library CD, so thank you for that. I have also tried to instal the Romanian Watchtower Library CD as well in hopes that I can use two languages at once. Is this possible?
Thanks for your help.
Dear Friends,
Thank you so much for the time and effort you have put into this! When I bought my Mac and learned that the WT library would not run, I was so disappointed. I almost took it back! So glad I found your site.
Dear Gregory,
What you said is exactly right. First navigate to:
Library → Application Support → Watchtower Library → drive_c → Program Files → Watchtower → Watchtower Library 2009 → E
Then delete the rs_data folder.
If you have anymore doubts you can re-read Roy’s explanation HERE
Phillip
Dear Linda.
Yes, its definitely possible to install more than one language!
1. You’ll need to open the WT Library for Mac program
2. Close any window that opens for the version that you have currently installed. Meaning, if you already have English installed, it will open and show you the Daily Text. Close that window by clicking on the red “close” button in the upper left corner.
3. Then insert the CD and away you go!
Remember though. You’ll need to start with the 2009 version of the disk and upgrade to 2010 after. If you need help with that you can look HERE
Phillip
Hallo,
wie kann ich die default-Einstellungen löschen?
Dear Brothers,
I’m so glad I came across this site because I desperately need to get more use out of my new Mac. I have read many of the post, so many until I think I am getting confused. Please forgive me because I am a newbie to the mac world. I have downloaded the disk image and followed the instructions but when I install the 2010 WTLIB, I receive the “serious problem” error. My questions are 1) do I need to start by loading the 2009 WTLIB and then follow the steps to upgrade to the 2010 WTLIB. and 2) when I move the disk image to my application folder, it shows a “strike-through” in the icon (as if it hasn’t loaded correctly). When I reboot the mac, the icon looks fine but I still get the “serious problem” error when i proceed with the steps. Any help that you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Hallo Gerd,
welche default Einstellung meinst Du? Falls Du den vorgeschlagenen Installationspfad der WT-CD meinst, dann lies bitte die Anleitung unter http://watchtowerlibraryformac.info/de-de/pages/4-feedback/posts/43-drive-c
lieben Gruß
Andreas
Hello, brother.
I am a one of programmer our organization.
I think that we will make new version watchtower library program.
One application for window, linux, mac.
You know that Java language possible it. : )
We can help our society. : )
How about your think?
Thank you and have a nice day.
I am noticing a copy paste issue between WT Library and Pages Apple’s word processing program. for example if I select and copy one paragraph or scripture from WT Library, then paste it into Pages I get 2 identical copies of the information appearing underneath each other. Why does this happen and is there a fix for this I am running Mac OSX 10.7 WT Library 2010 but has always happened even with 2009 vers.
Thanks
Dear David, Yes you are correct. You will need to uninstall the 2010 version. There will be remnants left on your Mac. To fully uninstall please note the video found here. Then start with the 2009 CD and do the manual upgrade mentioned on this site.
Dear Robert, Yes we know about this double paste issue. This will be fixed in the next version. A bit annoying till then!!!
Dear brothers,
I’ve been using Watchtower Library for Mac for over a year and it’s been wonderful. When the 2010 CDs arrived, I followed the instructions you posted and that has been working fine. But today when I tried to start the program, all of a sudden, I get a message saying that I need to insert the WTLIB CD and install. If I close that dialog, I can continue but there are no WTLIB applications shown as installed (I had English and Spanish). Why would this happen? Is there any way to recover? The data is still on my hard drive and nothing has changed other than the normal software updates. This is a MacBook Pro with OSX 10.6.7.
If I have to reinstall WTLIB for some reason to recover from this, will I need to do something first to uninstall? Will I have to install 2009 and then do the 2010 data copy again?
Thanks so much for your help with this and for all you do,
James
Many Many Thanks Roy and Rachel.
I have been running Windows via Parallels but wanted to free up space and the work around you published for WTLib 2010 worked great. It also loads much faster than a virtual windows machine. So Many Thanks indeed and if there is ever a way I can support you let me know ( :
Dear James, Not sure what happened there! I’ve upgraded to 10.6.7 with no effect to WTLFM. If it still isn’t playing, there is a video that Roy has done here on how to uninstall everything to start again.
Dear Andy, Thanks for the lovely feedback.
hi roy
Thanks so MUCH for all the hard work your doing on getting WT lib to work on snow Leopard.Question- lion will be out in a month, will WT lib work if i upgrade to lion? thanks again
I have encountered a problem at times when using the back button and getting an unhandled exception error. Any ideas? Also any update on the new version?
I have trouble to download to my mac computer. I have OS X10.6 and it failed to install? what can i do by step to install my mac for watchtower library. thanks
Any progress on the 2010 WT Lib operation?
Heath,
Is the problem consistent or just every once and a while? Have you tried re-installing the WT Library? What version of the Mac OS are you on?
Phillip
Dear Diane Bass,
Could you explain what is failing to install? Does the WT Library for Mac program install ok and then the WT Library disc does not?
Have you taken a look at the two tutorials HERE and HERE?
Phillip
Hello and many thanks for this software you have made available for the Mac user. You are to be praised for the stand you have about ‘no donations.’
Not because we want it free, but because you are one of the few out there that love the friends but dont feel its a real nice way to make a “Little money” for there “trouble”
I took note from what I’v read of a honest ring of truth to your service, There is not a hint of: "that you don’t ask for donations but if you’d like to help with a "small"donations..its ok.". or comments to the effect its really costly, we will try to keep doing this free as long as we can.. And you don’t wine about requests for needed fix’s, or requests like “Next time we want some more new bells & whistles”.
But the truth I’am confident to say is you are pouring your heart into this project and it dose take blocks of your time and money. But there is not a single moan or groan, Not any impatient comments for the society to release a Mac CD. And If they did you’d also be happy for all of us.
You are a credit to the organization! The word that comes to mind is a true display of Long Suffering!
There must be at times that it seems demanding ,stressful or tests your love of the brotherhood. But from what I read it dosent show. You apparently see the good in the friends and the benefit by making this available to the friends I’m sure its because you want to help. Your sorta like a 21 Century Willian TyndaleMy Question/problem is this:
I have not been able adjust the highlight or shaded background after I’v select the [publications.box]
and when I’v select the years box
( 1990 -2000 )
and when narrowing it down to the last selection,
[6/15… gods kingdon….]
these boxs display no other shade except a – Black with white text.
and I just can’t read it! I’v got some text and things to change to a colored highlites,
Such as the text pulled up from the bible or WT.Publications. These I can adjust. but with 2 of the choices in popup box for color change, are ‘grayed out’ there is no choice.
Is this normal? I noticed that over all that this WT.CD the contrast is very harsh with WTCD.Mac. I am running snow leopard and 2009 CD.Thank You for any help you might offer

I have installed and uninstalled the Disk Image many many times over the past few days, first trying with 2 separate 2010 discs, both with just the usual errors.
After trying with the 2010, and uninstalling everything, I have also tried with a 2008 WT CD, but still to no avail, when I put in the 2008 WT CD the 2010 picture still comes up, I have correctly uninstalled, but I am sure this 2010 image is coming from the Disk Image I have downloaded from the website.
I have also tried all of the trouble shooting suggestions found throughout these 168 comments, most of them are possible for me but just not effective, one that I can not even try is this one;
Library → Application Support → Watchtower Library → drive_c → Program Files → Watchtower → Watchtower Library 2009 → E
Then delete the rs_data folder.
Because when I get to Application Support, there is no Watchtower Library file present, although it does appear in my applications file.
Have you got any suggestions, in the meantime I will try and track down a 2009 version of the WT CD, but so far I have had no luck as I liven a small isolated congregation.
Hi Roy,
Unfortunately wtlib doesn’t work on OS X Lion. Are there plans to update accordingly? Not sure if you have the gold master of the OS yet, but I’ve just tried it and get a series of errors.

It’s just random and I’m running osx snow leopard but planing on going to lion
Hi, there. Just a HUGE thank you for making this app, its great to have the disk running with very little hassle on my mac. We have used the app since you came out with it and as long as I follow the instructions to the letter I have no problems.
Thanks for your hard work.
Hello,
I’m running leopard 10.6.8 and it continues to crash during install. Could you let me know if you’ve heard of anyone running this on 10.6.8 successfully?
Thanks again,
Sam
Hi there Sam, I am running 10.6.8 Mine did that at first so I had to drag everything to do with this app to the trash and re-install, that fixed the problem right away and only takes a few mins, it now runs great!
Hope that helps?

Hi Roy, thanks again for this program – it’s an invaluable research tool! I’ve a bit of a problem though – for some reason when I input data into the WTLib Search field, the incorrect keystrokes appear. So if I input a “H” I get a “3”. Which is very odd. I’ve tried stripping the program out, as well as X11, and reinstalling everything from scratch, but it doesn’t make any difference. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Hmm. It’s also changing what the short-cut keys do. So if I try and quit WTLib using Apple-Q, it jumps to another article instead. So far, every other program I’ve tried is unaffected, so it’s definitely a WTLib thing. Curiouser and curiouser…
Running SnowLeopard 10.6.8 on 3.06Ghz iMac with 8GB RAM, I have had very few problems with the software. I even upgraded to 2010, installed without any problems. One thing that I haven’t seen stated clearly and up-front (since installing 2010 is such a major problem for some) is that if you have a valid Windows XP license then there is a very simple fix for moving to wtlib 2010 from 2009. Since I have a valid Windows XP license, I took the needed DLL file from a running copy of Windows and plugged it into my WatchtowerLibraryForMac installation. Of course, that is not the approved option here given the footer on the website (‘for running Watchtower Library on Apple Mac computers without hassle and without cost’), but there are quite many of us who used to run Windows and if you still have that computer lying around, then you still have a valid Windows license and I’m not a lawyer but using that missing DLL wouldn’t be breaking Caesar’s law under those circumstances. I also run 2010 in two languages with few issues (English and Chinese), since I open a TextEdit document, type my search terms in Chinese using the built-in input methods that come with OS X, and copy-paste them into the search window in WtLib 2010 Chinese. Seems to work fine.
Bottom line is: suggestion – can you state clearly in the FAQs which DLL is needed to make 2010 install correctly, and link to the instructions on installing it? You could even head it up by saying it’s for ‘advanced users’. Also, could you post the work-around for using WtLib in double-byte character languages (use TextEdit, copy/paste into search box)?
Of course, those might not actually be FAQs, but it would be more helpful if users who did want to know didn’t have to ‘dig’ for it as for silver ;)
Thanks for your hard work! I use WT library for Mac a lot. This raises a question: Are you aware of any compatibility issues running the Library under the imminently to-be released Lion OS?
I upgraded to the GM release of OS X 10.7 Lion and found that my copy of WT LIB for mac kept crashing. I uninstalled and then reinstalled the application fresh and then inserted my copy of the 2009 CD and it installed and runs perfectly. I then went to look in the application support folder to find the C drive and WT data to replace with the 2010 and I could not find that folder anywhere….Hope this helps and inspires more progress on this. As of now I have Wt Library 2009 running on my Mac OS X 10.7 Lion
LION FIX Please follow the instructions found here
Okay so I keep trying to print stuff from the watchtower library and whenever I print it always prints in little tiny font sizes and in the center but like there is a box in the center it is supposed to print in I guess. Is there any way to make it print normal?
Hello Dameon,
Instead of trying to print straight from the Watchtower Library, try to copy & paste into a text editor and print from there:
1. In Watchtower Library drag over the text you want to print to highlight it.
2. Press control + C on your keyboard to copy the block of text.
3. Open the program “TextEdit” in your applications folder.
4. Press command + V to paste.
5. Print from there.
Notice that its control in the Watchtower Library and command in TextEdit. If you reverse them, it won’t work.
Let me know if that helps.
Phillip
I’ve installed WTL 2010 in Lioan and xmodmap file, but my problem is that this file contain english keyboard. How can I to install in spanish keyboard?
thanks very much for help us.
Been close to 6 months since I received WT 2010
I must first thank you for what you’ve provided for us.
Now I have to say (however) that I couldn’t follow your instructions about making the adaptations to use 2010 data. Just couldn’t understand them. I figured out my own way to insert 2010 data into 2009 software.
Now I see similar mind boggling instructions for Lion. I think I’ll stick with Snow Leapard. For likely many of us. We need desctiptions and instrucktons for regular people, you know, the kind of people that are only fluent in English ;-) Again, I must thank you very much for WT Library for Mac. Oh, took me a while to figure out how to feed back.
Thanks for the fix for OS X Lion.
I’ve the same problem than Jonatan one day ago: the multilingual keyboard settings are not working with this fix. It supports only English keyboard.
lalablue teve, brothers
Every time I have a question, you have the answer. And the instructions are so clear and easy to follow. I cannot commend or thank you enough. I write this because I recently downloaded Lion and couldn’t understand what happened to my keyboard. When a person doesn’t know the answer, they should at least know who to ask. Guess I got that one down. :)
Jeff C post: „I then went to look in the application support folder to find the C drive and WT data to replace with the 2010 and I could not find that folder anywhere…”
THE HIDDEN LIBRARY FOLDER IN LION
The ~/Library folder is now hidden.
If you want to see it, a simple terminal command will unhide it:
chflags nohidden /Users/YOUR USERNAME/Library
and click Return
Thanks for getting us a quick fix for OS X Lion. Really needed that one :-)
I just completed a fresh install of WT2009 on lion. I then updated the Rs_data file with WT2010. All works well, but my keyboard(English). I downloaded the file and copy and pasted the command line in Termial. Twice. Still doesn’t work. The file is being moved as it is no longer in my download folder each time I tried. Any help would be great. Thanks!
Upadate – I was able to get the keyboard working with the applied fix. However, it only works for that session. As soon as I close WT and reopen my keyboard is scrambled. Thank for your help and efforts!

I am new to Mac and am looking for some help. I have a factory install of Lion that I am trying to install WTLIB 2010 on. So far I have successfully installed 2009. Where I am having problems is getting the rs_data file updated for 2010. I tried to follow the instructions, but I do not have a folder named “Watchtower Library” under the “Application Support” folder. I tried the suggestion from Jakub above that unhides the hidden Library. However, I still can’t find the rs_data folder. What am I doing wrong? Did I need to update the rs_data before I applied the fix for Lion?
Thanks!
I figured it out! I was putting in the wrong user name. I didn’t realize the name I logged in under was different than the name that was used for my User Folder.
Made me feel a little foolish, but glad it was something simple!
Hello and thank you for all your hard work in assisting those of us who use Mac to use the WT Library.
Just a quick feedback on the new Lion OS (10.7).
I updated to Lion over the weekend and immediately encountered the problem of incorrect keystrokes you mentioned in your “news” section. I followed your instructions and found 2 issues. Firstly the file seems to download with a full stop at the end of the file name, thus the command string mentioned in your posting does not work until one either adds the full stop to the command line, or removes it from the file name in the downloads folder.
Secondly, whilst many of the keystrokes do work, there are still many that do not. Eg the letter ‘a’. Also when attempting to do a search on a number of bible chapters – eg. Ps 79-80, it will not allow me to do so. I am using WT Lib 2009 version. I have tried restarting Wt Library a few times with the same result.
Perhaps we may need to wait for Version 2 to properly sort these little matters.
Thanks again for all your hard work. It is greatly appreciated.
Regards – Jus.
Hi, just a further comment regarding 10.7. It seems that the fix works fine on my laptop (MacBook Air), but does not work completely on my iMac with the full keyboard (including numeric keypad). I hope that helps.
Thanks – Dietmar
Hello dear brothers! Yesterday I installed Lion and tried to follow every step you have on your site, but I can’t get the letters to work correctly though I reinstalled every thing again and again.
I would really appreciate some help…
Your brother Mathias
Hi brothers,
I’ve solved the problem with Spanish keyboard. Here I put the new xmodmap file for use the spanish keyboard: http://db.tt/YXMGAQO.
Thanks .
Thank you, thank you,thank you!!!
I knew there was a way to run the WT Library on my iMac.
hello and thanks so much. This is another Lion issue. i too have tried the fix as suggested however I’m now having issues with the ‘A’ and ‘R’ keys (english keyboard) not working properly. anyone else have this issue? if so, is there a fix? feel free to email me directly at msprich@gmail.com.
Cheers,

Thank you Rachel and Roy for the fine job you have done making the Watchtower Library available on Mac.
I have been using it for quite some time now but have not as of yet taken the time to show my appreciation. Please forgive my tardiness in doing do!
I am looking forward to Version 2.0 and will wait with keen anticipation until it’s release.
Again, thank you my dear brother and sister and keep up the good work!
Vince Russell
P.S. Now all we need is WTLIB for the iPad! ;)
Roy, thanks for this software, it’s been a great help.
I registered on Redmine, but couldn’t figure out how to file a bug.
An issue you should be aware of with Lion which I am running: I downloaded and moved Xmodmap per your instructions, but on my keyboard there are still some issues. Notably the ‘a’ key still doesn’t work, and one of the number keys (the ‘8’ I believe) acts as a return key. I’m using a US MacBook Pro – wondering if there’s a difference in the keyboard mapping? Any thoughts you may have would be appreciated.
Thanks again for all your time and effort on this project!
Hiya, I would like to thank you both for the efforts you put into making our lives easier. I for one appreciate this and hope that you continue with this fantastic page. Again thank you Rachel and Roy.
Hi!
I tried your fix on Lion concerning the keyboard issue but now three keys do not function: a s and r………..
Can you help me out with that?
Greetings
Dennis
I have install Lion and do the fix but my keybord stay in qwerty and the r dont work is there no azerty fix ?
kind regards
If you would like to install Watchtower Library 2010 on OS X Lion without needing to do the rsdata copy procedure, please follow these instructions on my blog since it has worked for me.
If you already have access to a Windows machine, you need to get a copy of the iphlpapi.dll file which is typically located in the C:\windows\system32 directory.
Blog site: http://wtlibrary2010onosxlion.blogspot.com/2011/08/watchtower-library-2010-on-osx-lion.html
Hi, i run the new Lion. i downloaded the Xmodmap file, i did the copy & paste of the: mv ~/Downloads/Xmodmap ~/.Xmodmap on the terminal. But when i press Enter, the following line appears saying:
mv: rename /Users/dlopaka/Downloads/Xmodmap to /Users/dlopaka/.Xmodmap: No such file or directory
So what do i do wrong?
By the way, thanks for your work. I’m from Canada but living now in Ecuador.
Alain
The error simply means the file “Xmodmap” in /Users/dlopaka/Downloads does not exist. It appears that when you downloaded the Xmodmap file it did not go into your Downloads directory.
Do you see the file in your “Downloads” directory? If not, try to find the file using spotlight. Then drag it into your dlopaka folder in Finder. Finally rename the file to .Xmodmap
Let me know if you need more help. My email is vincent.carbonara@gmail.com
hi roy
thanks for all your wok on WT.
using mac OSX 10.6.8.
when i tried to install WT 2009~ it say WT 2009 requires a newer operating system to install? any suggestions.
thanks for the help.
OK, solved the problem I was having with the keyboard mapping not working for the ‘a’, ‘r’, and ‘8’ keys. There seems to be subtle differences in my keyboard mapping (Macbook pro unibody intel core i7). If you are enough to have tried the fix posted on this site using terminal, you should be able to handle this. Here’s what I did.
Download the Xmodmap file mentioned here (this needs to download or be moved to your downloads folder for the other instructions to work, so if you download to your desktop or somewhere else, you’ll need to move it): http://watchtowerlibraryformac.info/en/pages/2-faq/content
Open your downloads folder, and control-click Xmodmap. Choose ‘open with’ and then choose TextEdit. You’ll see a simple listing that maps keys to characters. Don’t panic, you don’t need to understand it perfectly.
Open terminal and type the following command exactly (this will give you the keyboard map for your computer): xmodmap -pke
In my case the file was almost identical, but had some subtle differences which were accounting for some keys not functioning correctly. It takes a few seconds to load, so be patient.
Copy the keyboard map from Terminal (be careful to only copy only the key listing – refer to the Xmodmap file you downloaded – and not any terminal commands.
Paste this into the Xmodmap file you have open in TextEdit, being careful to overwrite the previous contents of the file.
Save the file and follow the directions for moving it to your home directory in the link above.
Viola, fixed.
Thanks again Roy and Rachel, hope this helps!
JOY The emotion excited by the acquisition or expectation of good; state of happiness; exultation.
And that is just how I felt when I discovered that Roy had put forth the time and effort to fix the OSX Lion issue so that the keyboard mapping is now working correctly!!!
Thank you so much for the fine job you’ve done and for the sacrifice of time you have made in our behalf. My MacBook Air didn’t need a full-blown install of Fusion and Windows. This approach is so much leaner. I can’t thank you enough :-)
Keep up the good work. Please don’t let this project rob you of your joy and/or sanity. And please be assured that the work that you are doing and the sacrifice that you’re making is an asset to the brotherhood all over the world!!!
I just wanted to say THANK YOU SO MUCH for giving servants of Jehovah who happen to be mac users, the ability to access the cd rom with such ease. I installed Lion and just experienced the keyboard garbling and decided that before i try to memorize a new keyboard, i should google it to see what i could find.. and thankfully you had the easy fix on your site. huge relief! thanks again, my brother.
I wanted to say thanks ahead of time. I am in high anticipation of the Chinese input as I’m in Taiwan. I am running lion, but after 1.3 couldn’t read chinese and had a grey screen after install; so i’m looking fwd to the 2.0 release. I can’t wait to save the room after deleting parallels and windows and allowing my wife and I an easier and simpler study flow.
I get this when I start the TERMINAL

Any word on Lion working with 2010 cd updates? No one seems to have the old 2009 CD in my area and from what I understand you can’t just install the 2010 disk… Just got a new mac with Lion and would like to get the WTlib up and running ASAP.
Thanks!
My father has recently updated his iMac to OSX Lion. I have to install the WTLib again, 2009 works, but I can’t find RS_data folder :S.
Anyone know where I can find the RS_data folder?

PROBLEM SOLVED!
For OSX Lion users. If the WTLib doesn’t work after updating, do the following.
Remove everything of WTLIB. Instal WTLibformac again. Then install WTLib 2009.
When it’s installed, open WTLIB, go to Watchtower Library above left of your screen. Click on Reveal Research Favorites, a new Finder window will open. Now go back to find the map Program Files etc. Follow the instructions from this site (RS_data folder 2010).
Then don’t forget to update the key updates.
Good luck!
This doesn’t really belong on this topic but if you are an iPhone user then you may be interested to know that it looks like one roadblock to getting an iOS version of WT Library has been removed.
It now seems possible for an official iOS app to be built and distributed on the CD along with the Windows version without going through the App Store.
Of course this doesn’t mean it will happen, but at least now it could. I just got an app like this from my employer and it seems like it could work for WT Library as well.

Hi everyone,
Just to say that the Xmodmap file that you provided is of course for QWERTY mapping.
Tried some commands but nothing seems to solve…
I’m having problem, cannot even read the content (chinese character turn to boxes) after install Watchtower library 2008 Chinese edition in OS X Lion! Please help.
Thanks for the handwork.

Hello,
I’m running mac os x lion 10.7.2 but if I want to copy a text from watchtower library to ‘word for mac’ nothing happens.
Can you help me?
Many Thanks
First, I want to thank Roy and family for their efforts. I am also having a similar problem. I just installed v2.0. Loads and everything is fine, however when I copy from the library and go to paste in Pages, there is no paste option. Any ideas?
I downloaded the Watchtower Library for Mac. When I tried to follow the steps to install it, the application quit unexpectedly and it will not allow me to proceed any further. I have tried many times to get in but it quits on me. Any ideas?
Hi,
I am having issues using copy and paste on the Watchtower library. ctrl+C for copying within Watchtower and cmd+V for pasting out (say into text edit) doesn’t work. Is there any way to actually copy and paste out from the library? or is this a known issue? An answer soon would be very helpful thanks.
Dear Ben B, Please see our new Forum on all issues with version 2.0. You can find the post that deals with the copy & paste issue here
I installed WT 2009 without problem in lion, now and before. Once i replace the folder Rs_data 2009 and y put into de correct folder without problem. Trying to install Watchtower 2010 on my Mac Lion.
Instructions seem so simple and easy, thank you.
Have checked and erased all older version of the watchtower.
Followed steps.
Inserted the W.CD 2010
When the ‘shelf’ appears it now has 3 yellow Watchtower icons on the shelf.
Yes I have deleted and retried many times.
If I minimize the shelf it sits on the far of the Dock.
If I close the yellow shelf – program gone.
Thank you for any help.
Really hope we can work on this together.
Marleen
Hi brother, Im using Lion 10.7.2 any possiblity to install in this OS? I havent been able to do it. Can you help me please?
Thanks for the great update! I wondered if it still supports installation of TSWIN? When I click the link to the instructions I get the message that the link is broken. Hope that it still works!
Thanks,
Mark
Thank you for this major update. V2.0 works perfectly on OS 6 and OS7 (Lion). You can find a comment on a french website (that’s not mine!) here http://goo.gl/iUrDi
Hi Everyone,
I am running v2.0 on Lion 10.7.2. I have both English and Chinese Library installed. Each runs fine but I can not get the Synchronization to work like it used to in v1. Any idea how to fix this? Thanks in advance.
i have both WTLIB program version running on several Mac computers, all using Lion OS and new equipment, however, I notice the new version 2.0, doesn’t allow me to paste the copied text to another application, like TextEdit, Pages, etc. The clipboard is empty on the Mac side. I used the 1.3 version for now, so I can do my research and paste the info in Apple Pages word processor. I managed to get paste working once on one computer, but stopped working. Odd, has anyone notice this happening to them. Might be some conflict between using both Watchtower Library 1.3v and Watchtower Library for Mac 2.0v. Reinstalling didn’t seem to fix the problem.
Alex
I found the link, regarding the copy and paste issue with 2.0 and I got it to work, by activating copy/paste first in a mac application.

Thanks

Hello from Texas!
After an hour of tinkering, I just was able to get 2011 data installed.
This is for OS 10.6.
Install Watchtower Library for MAC 2.0
Follow instructions to Install watchtower library for windows 2010.
Next we want to replace the rs_data. This can be found in a package file in User, Library, Application Support, Watchtower Library for MAC, then "show package contents of the file in that folder. It was “Sculptural Frailty” for me. You will find the rs_data in Wine files, drive_c, Watchtower, Watchtower Library 201, E. DELETE OR RENAME THE CURRENT RS_DATA FODER. Then copy the rs_data from the 2011 CD. (close WTLB 1st)
This worked for me to get the 2011 data. :)
Hope this will help someone.
Brotherly love,
Sean L.
I have Version 2 installed on my MAC along with a good working installation of Watchtower Library 2010.
I received 2011 the other night and it appeared to install without any glitches.
I come to double-click on the 2011 Watchtower Library inside the Version 2 Bookshelf and it does Nothing.
I was wondering about uninstalling the whole lot and trying from scratch with 2011 CD.
BUT…. I don’t know where the Watchtower Library files are stored on the MAC with the newer Version 2 of ‘Watchtower Library for Mac’ .
Will these files disappear if I just uninstall Watchtower Library for Mac 2 from my Mac?
Thanks for the help.
Regards…David.
Just found how to find the Watchtower Library files on my MAC, Lion hides the files and Rachel has posted how to find them by holding the ALT Key and selecting GO in top menu bar in Finder.
I’ve deleted the Files and will try re-installed 2011.
(See post above for details of my problem).
…David.
WT 2011 CD installation sorted!!!
I decided to delete the ‘Watchtower Library for Mac’ App and re-download it and install it. This time it downloaded Version 2.1 and the 2011 CD Version worked like a treat!
Thanks for the constant updates Roy!
Kind Regards… David. Merseyside, UK
I downloaded and installed version 2.1. Now every time I click on the icon to open the Watchtower Library it opens the little separate window with the yellow/gold background for me to click on the WL icon within it. Does anyone know how to get it to open the Library directly? Thks
Hello brothers, I just wanted to be one of the many sisters (I’m sure) on this site to tell you how thankful I am that you have done this for us. I live in Australia and go to the Penrith congregation and at the moment my parents and I have mac computers and tried to get a system so we could use the windows version but then it got all complicated and confusing and we’ve had weeks without the watchtower library and having to look everything up the old fashioned way and I can tell you that I don’t know how the brothers and sisters back then did it without having the watchtower library.
So thank you so much! It is a blessing to have this provision back again!
Warm sisterly love, Lindsay.
Dear Agur, You cannot open directly from the dock anymore. This may be a future feature. The ‘bookshelf’ approach allows users that have multiple language versions of the library to see them all at once.
Dear Lindsay, Thank you so much for your comments. We love getting feedback from our brothers.
hello brother,
first just want to say thanks!
program works great, just in time to help write my next talk!
as a guy with a little bit of programing knowledge I know this must have took a lot of work.
but I do have a question: I have installed it on my mac (running the latest version of osx snow leopard) and now for the first time a time machine back-up went wrong (might be because it tried it back up while it was installing)
and now spotlight is trying to index everything. (this has also never happened)
Thanks!
Hello brothers, I have followed your instructions to install the latest Watchtower Library 2011 on my mac. I am running the latest Lion Software. When I click on the 2011 icon nothing happens. My 2010 will still open fine, but I can’t seem to open my 2011. Any ideas? Thank you so much
Hello Brothers!
Thank you so much for these emulators. Having the WT CD on our Mac makes study and preparation so much faster and we really do appreciate it.
After installing the 2011 CD I am unable to copy from the WT CD and paste into the mac OS. I typically use TextEdit for my talks. Running Lion 10.7.3
With much love from Arizona.
-Ben
Ben,
What has worked for me was suggested some time ago. Once you open WT Lib., open pages, textedit, etc.; type a few characters/copy/paste, then delete. Now you should be able to go into WT Lib. and copy/paste into the word processor. Once this is done once, you should not have any issues. I’m using Lion 10.7.3. This has worked for me.
Mark-Arizona
Hi,
I’’ve installed both the English and Arabic version of the watchtower library – the English works great, but the Arabic text is not Arabic characters and I’m unable to sync the two programs together- is it possible to sync the WT library with this program? Thanks!
Is there any way to copy from WT library for mac and paste into pages or text editor?
Kirt,
When you open pages or text edit, just enter a character or two, copy them, paste them right back. Then delete them. You should be able to copy and paste from WT library as needed.
I have a issue with printing. ON WTL11 and snow leopard whenever I try to print something it always prints in the center of the page in a tiny box and in little letters. I am able to copy and paste in Word but I still would really like to print from Watchtower library. I have uninstalled the printer and reinstalled it but still nothing. Please help. Thank you.
Hi, thanks for the program. So happy I can use Wt Lib on my mac. I have just installed the 2011 version in English and Croatian. The first time I installed this on my mac was in ‘09. Since then I’ve upgraded each year by just switching out the rs data. Right now I have 3 windows opening when I launch wtlib. 1 for Croatian, another for English and the same English data- but it starts as the 2009 version. Hope that makes sense… I want to unistall the 2009 version now. I no longer have the disc.
Thanks!
Hello!
I have installed 2011 WT for Mac. But now I can’t copy&paste at all.I have the swedish WT Library 2011.Before I had the same problem described by others,I got it twice, one big version and an other with smaller letters.
So my problem right now is that I can’t copy & paste at all. What to do??
Please help a brother in Finland speaking swedish and not able to describe his problem alright in english! Patrick Sjöberg
Patrick, Quite a few have had that problem. What works for me if there is no paste option is to open pages or text edit, type a character, copy it paste it right back, then delete it. Copy and paste will then work from WT to word processor as needed. Hope this helps.
Hi. Thank you! I’m running Mac OS X 10.8.2 (Mountain Lion). I have two issues:
1) Chinese characters: It only shows boxes. Any way to fix? (I’ve tried changing fonts, but it only solves part of the issue.)
2) Synchronisation: Not working. Any way to fix?
Hi again!
I found the post on synchronisation (so question 2 solved), but the Chinese character question remains.
Thank you!
