2010 Edition Crashes
By Roy Ratcliffe, December 05, 2010
If you have the new 2010 edition of the library, you will have problems launching it. Although it installs successfully, it crashes on launch.
No doubt this issue will get resolved in due course. In the meantime, you can update your library by following the instructions here.

Thanks for the workaround Roy. Working well on Snow Leopard 10.6.5
Ben Avery
The workaround works well. Thank you so much.
I really hope you will have success with the resoluton. Thanks for the workaround.
Thank you very much for your useful work! Unfortunately it doesn’t work – as well as you wrote – with a version of WTLib, which was not installed with the 2009 version. Are you working on a new release for the 2010 versions?
However, I’m very glad for your work, making available the Watchtower on Mac!
Thank you from Germany
i’ve installed wt09 and it works well however i wish to install wt06 and have them both on my laptop and be able to run either one. how do i do that?
thanks, larry
Your work around looks great, but the problem is that you assume we have the 2009 edition. I don’t have this, anymore. i regret that, but would love to be able to read the 2010 edition. Any way to do this?
Thanks a lot for the great work…
Thanks for the workaround. I actually had discovered it on my own after much frustration. Doh…should have just come here first.
Thanks for all your hard work Roy.
First of all thanks for your efforts in rendering WTL available for us, mac users. I really appreciate it! I have installed the WTL 09 successfully in snow leopard and have been enjoying it a lot. I have always used mac and never thought I would be able to install WTL until one friend told me about you! So well done and thanks!
I have followed your instructions to update the 2010 version manually, but on the folder ‘program files’ I only see 2 subfolders: Common Files (Microsoft shared under it) and Internet Explorer. I must have done some MAJOR mistake… is it possible?
Ana
Replaced the rs_data with the one on the 2010 disc and the ’09 still remains. A Brother followed the instuctions and it worked fine. Any suggestion. Nate
Thanks all for your kind encouragement. Hopefully a solution will present itself for compatibility with the 2010 edition in due time.
Dear Nate, Have you copied
rs_datato the nested folders at the right level? Please note, you don’t droprs_datainto the existingrs_data; Watchtower Library will ignore the new data, if you inadvertently do that.Jono, Sorry. You will need 2009 or possibly at least 2007/8. 2006 does not work; there are various technical differences between 2006 and its successors.
Ana, That is very strange. Did you alter the installation path when you originally installed it? Perhaps you could use Finder to search for a folder named
rs_data.I found this link on the wine site that might be useful in updating your install so it can support the installation and running of the 2010 WTL.
http://www.design-to-use.de/en/tobias-krais/linux-howtos/watchtower-library
Thank you for your work, I really appreciate it.
I have an odd situation where I can do what you have suggested on my Administrator login screen, but on other login screens Library brings me to “Watchtower Library.app” and has no folder to open. WT 09 works fine on these screens, but I cannot replace the “rs” folder as they don’t show up. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both your app and the WTL 09 a couple of times already. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Jeremy
Thank you Brother for all of your time and effort on this project.
Ever since trying to load WT Lib 2010 I have been unable to reinstall 09. When I manually drop the setup.exe file on the icon it just counts to 2 and then stops working. I’ve tried reinstalling entire package yet to no avail. I also got into the wine file and tried to manually delete WT Lib 2010 and 2009.
Is there a way to kind of reset to the original and reinstall? One caveat is that I also run Ta1ks so I don’t really want to have to reload that.
Thanks
Hi Roy,
I finally got WTLib 2009 to reinstall. Not sure how and I could probably never repeat it but it’s working now.
Thanks, if you are ever in California stop by.
Hi there! The rs_data Folder doesnt exist! what to do? any idea?
thank you for your efforts with the Mac software conversion for watchtower library. We did your quick fix for the 2010 version the only difference with our install was the 2009 application files were in the library of my wife’s user account and not accessible in the library of the mac hard drive application finder. also we accidentally copied the 2010 rs files to applications folder but this seemed to make it easier to retrieve when we replaced 2009 rs files. thank you again for doing this, one thing for certain is we would not have figured this out without your site!
Dear Roy,
Sorry to present a problem when you have worked so hard to give us the Watchtower for our Mac.
I know little about comps, but did install the WT in 08, and 09 with no problem.
I followed the work around and lost my 09, and thought I had installed the 2010. Now I get the message that wt has experienced a problem. Also it looks as if only the Bible can be accessed……sigh……any suggestions?
Thank you my brother for all your hard work. I’ve been running Wat Lib with Crossover for a number of years. Worked OK but was very slow to load, and having Crossover tempted me to load other Win programs (Office, etc.) which never got used much.
Used your program tonight (12/20/2010) and used the rs workaround to load the 2010 data. Works great, and is much faster! Deleted Crossover off my Mac :-) Thanks again.
Dear Beau, Not tried it out to see if it works yet, but first of all not sure if these .dll files are Windows copyright and therefore free to use without a license! We will look into this and see if it is a viable fix.
Dear Jeremy & TobiCom, Please look at the ‘note’ shown about half way down of Roy’s News feed here to help you find your rs_data folder.
Dear Peter, Glad you got it running in the end.
Dear Nathan, Ingenious. You know the saying, ‘if it works, don’t fix it’!!
Hi again Roy. I asked a while back about making the WT my home page. I mean that when the computer is switched on, the library automatically opens to the days text. How can I have mine automatically open when I turn on the computer and thus make the WT Home Page show up by itself? Thanks Roy
I’m new to WatchtowerLibraryForMac today after using Crossover with WTLIB2010 (which failed) Had to trash Watchtower Library Folder (as created by WLFM) and the WTLIB2010. Launched WLFM again, installed WTLIB2009 – went to rs_data folder for 2009 deleted that, inserted 2010 rs_data folder (copied from trash) – workaround a SUCCESS! thank you for your site I use WT Library every day.
Hi!
For all of you who use crossover, maybe this is the solution for installing WTLIB 2010.
worked fine for me:
http://www.codeweavers.com/support/forums/general/?t=27;msg=95395
Here is a patch that could help you out to update the watchtower library program…
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=22127
Thank you so much for all your hard work. I don’t know very much about computers but I was able to follow your instructions and it works perfectly!
Dear Louise, This can be done in your Apple System preferences. Go to System Accounts>Login items and add WT Library.
Dear Laurie, So glad it all worked for you.
Dear ‘Lets do it’, After looking at this Crossover workaround, we notice it includes a .dll file. This is licensed by Windows and therefore illegal to download unless you have a Windows license. Therefore we cannot recommend it. The best thing for Crossover users is to use the workaround Roy has put here for the 2010 edition.
Dear Daniel, Thanks very much. When we release the next version, if there is still the same problem with Wine, we will include this patch in the download.
Dear Heidi, Excellent. Another satisfied customer!!
Dear Carol, Sounds like something more than the rs_data file was deleted and replaced! Can you uninstall the whole lot and start again? You can see a video explaining how to uninstall here. Just ignore anything it mentions about frameworks. This was an old requirement no longer needed.
All you do is go to your Home folder>Library>Application Support>Watchtower Library. Drag the whole Watchtower Library folder into Trash. Start again with 2009 and then upgrade to 2010 using the temporary fix again.
Hope it goes well this time.
HI PETER!
I’M EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM YOU DID – I’M TRYING TO REINSTALL
WT 2008, AFTER A FAILED ATTEMPT AT 2010, BUT I AM STUCK. I KNOW YOU POSTED THAT YOU COULDN’T REPEAT YOUR FEAT OF REINSTALLING 2009, BUT ANY HINTS AS TO WHERE I SHOULD START? ANY INSIGHTS FROM YOU OR ANY ONE OUT THERE WOULD BE VERY APPRECIATED – THANKS IN ADVANCE
Worked fantastically for me :-) Thank you for all your hard work on WT Library for Mac – it is truly appreciated
Hi,
I didn’t use this installer but Crossover instead. The initial install of the 2010 version worked, but a start failed (as described everywhere here). Interestingly, with Crossover, there is a workaround to get it working:
http://www.codeweavers.com/support/forums/general/?t=27;msg=95395
Copying this version of iphlpapi makes the version 2010 run in the Crossover environment. So, would that hint to a solution for “Watchtower Library for Mac” as well?
Regards,
Olaf
Dresden English
Dear Kevin, Probably the best option is to uninstall everything and start again. You can see a video showing you how to do this here. But basically it is, shut down WTLib for Mac. Go to your Home folder>Library>Application Support>Watchtower Library. Drag the whole of this folder to trash. Then install 2009 as normal and then use the 2010 temporary upgrade shown here
Dear OJ, Please see my comments regarding this workaround above in my answer to ’Let’s Do It’. We cannot recommend it because of the legality of the file. Thank you for letting us know though.
Dear Rachel, I’ve got it up and running again, thanks for your help!
Thanks for this workaround Roy. Works perfectly. Of course, the .exe is still for 2009 but otherwise has all the 2010 info. Excellent! I think one problem that some are having is that when you drill down to the “Folder” Watchtower Library, it’s shown as the Watchtower Library.app. Once you look into the pkg then it all becomes clear, just as your instructions show. Thanks again to you and Rachel, the wife!
@ Rachel, the wife!
Of course you have to own a legal licence of Microsoft Windows for the Crossover fix i posted above.
But i think this is not a Problem for the most of us. Nearly everybody has one ore more licences of an old windows at home. If not, you are not allowed to use the downloaded dll.
But you confirm this also by downloading the file from the site i postet.
I only wanted to show up a way to fix the problem with crossover without having a “workaround”.
But you are right. If you don’t own a legal licence of MS Office you are not allowed to use this fix.
Kevin F.
I turned on “show all filename extensions” in finder > preferences. If I turn it off it won’t load…On It loads. Not sure why but give it a try.
Hi Roy!
I need: step-by-step instructions on how to use the copy & paste function.
I’m running WT CD Lib on a Mac (your workaround for 2010 – thank you soooo much!) and I want to copy from it and paste into Word.
Thank you,
Jenny
Hi Roy,
I followed the steps by replacing the Rs folder. Now WTLIb won’t launch.
My console is giving error messages such as these shown below.
What could be the problem?

Hello and greetings from Down Under, thanks for development of Watchtower for Mac, I appreciated so much. I had a 2007 CD Watchtower Library. And when I tried to upgrade onto 2010 and did the workaround (delete that rs_data from my name’s application folder and replaced that folder from the 2010 CD), I tried to launch the Watchtower Library but failed to run because of that message. Any other ideas?
Issue resolved. I uninstalled Wtlib and reinstalled 2009 following steps on the home page and replaced the rts folder with 2010 folder SUCCESS!!!!!! Now I am ready for my personal study projects of 2011. Thanks so much!!!
Dear Jenny, To copy and paste into Word you need to 1st highlight the section in WT Library you want to copy, ctrl C to copy. Then in Word Command V to paste. Confusing I know, but it works!
Dear Matthew, You really need to do the upgrade from 2009 to 2010. Can you lend somebody’s CD from your cong?
Dear Abigail, So glad you got it up and running. Generally that is what we have been telling folks to do if they have a problem. Uninstall it all, the way Roy shows you how to in the video, then reinstall 2009 and work from there. Well done.
Thank you so much Roy, the workaround works really well.
Roy and Rachel,
You two are amazing!
Knowing how busy all my fellow brothers and sisters are, please accept a special thanks for all the helpful information you take time to give to us…..above and beyond the fact that you have provided the WONDERFUL Watchtower for Mac. (Was that a proper sentence?)
I uninstalled the 09 and reinstalled the 2010 as Rachel suggested……Yea!!
I now have all the latest info at my fingertips!
Much love to you !
Dear Roy
Thanks for your website and support.
Have just followed your patch through and have successfully launched 2010. Have to say I’m not sure how some brothers had success reading what they did. However it’s working fine for me although you do see the brown 2009 logo flash up and also the WTlib.exe fail to launch window for a moment but then the new Library kicks in fine.
Thanks again!
First thank you for this useful program.
Maybe this can help.
I tried this solution http://www.ubuntu-es.org/node/146931
and I have the 2010 spanish program running on the mac. I have not the english CD yet.
If you have problems with spanish I can help you.
The main idea is add the iphlpapi.dll in Library
Application Support
Watchtower Library
drive_c/windows/system32. This step with the application off.
Then in Wine configuration-tab Library- add the replace for iphlpapi.dll. Click yes to the warning.
Install the WTLibrary2010 and at least in the spanish version with snow leopard works fine.
Best regards
Can’t express my gratitude, for doing all this for us. RS_data replace works with Ubuntu (Linux) as well. No need to touch Windows at all. Fantastic!
Roy, I inserted 2010 disc and could not find my rs_data folder in any “E” folder or after searching in finder. Then, after removing the 2010 disc and opening 2009 for use, it showed that no version was installed….Then I installed the 2010 version. However, I still cant find an rs_data folder. Hmm…..SOS! Thanks! JW
Dear J. Wilson,
Did you use the search function or did you go through the folder path that is posted here:
http://watchtowerlibraryformac.info/en/pages/3-news/latest
If you use the search function of the Mac it is probable that it won’t find it because by default the Mac won’t search through System or Library folders.
Phillip
Thank you so much for your hard work. The temp works like a charm.
Alex
Hallo,
wann ist mit einem Update für WT 2010 zu rechnen?
L.G.
inkeb
The instructions worked great but I first went to finder and tried from my Mac Disc, it has a file library/application support / but then no Watchtower file. One has to go down from DEVICES TO PLACES and then from one or (Your name)click and follow directions. Thank you for the program, Richard
Hello My brother i have used this program for 2009 no problem but 2010 is giving me problems. I must have messed something up and lost wt 2009 edition, so i reinstalled the 2008 edition i tried to follow the instructions and the files you said to follow are not there at all i checked everything. Im not sure what else to do if you can give me some advice it would be appreciated. P.S. not an expert at this
Dear Richard, The application support folder is the ‘per user’ folder, i.e. you start from your personal home folder than navigate downwards.
Dear Anthony, I don’t have the 2008 edition any more. I think I gave it to someone. Anyway, I recommend getting hold of the 2009 edition then following the update steps for 2010. Hopefully, some kind brother or sister will help you out.
Thanks Roy, I received my WTLIB a few weeks ago checked your site noted the workaround and all is well! Thanks for your help to all us mac users.
Regards, your fellow brother. Paul.
Roy,
Thank you for the ‘Per User’ note. I tried installing 2010 and of course it didn’t work and after playing with it for a while it was really messed up. So i decided I would use Time Machine to restore. I was looking all over for the Application Support in the HD folder and it wasn’t there. After reading you post I was able to locate it, Restore the Watchtower folder form Time Machine. Got 09 back, used the work-around to add the 2010 rs_data. Now up and running again.
Thank you
Hello,
Do I have to uninstall the 2009-edition first, before I would like to install 2010?
Regards,
Aquila
Hallo inkeb,
Andreas
Dear Roy,
I want Thank you, I have now running the Library 2010 on my Mac, but I want to ask something.
I work with open Office, and every time I make copy from the Library, and it paste into a Document, a have from every copy, two times, once small and once bigger.
Are there people those have the same.
I am sorry a for my English,
Greetings from your Sister Eunice from Holland
Hallo,
B.Sturm
Dear Paul & Kevin, We are glad it is working for you both.
Dear Aquila, No, please do not uninstall 2009. You need the 2009 framework to copy 2010 data into at present. This is a temporary workaround until Roy has time to write a new version of the program. Please see here for the instructions.
Dear Eunice, We do know about this problem. Roy is hoping to fix it in the next version.
Dear Roy and Rachel,
Just to say – thank you so much for the workaround, and for all your hard work. It is much appreciated.
Regards
Hi Are there any issues running along side Parallels? Thanks for your hard work on our behalf.
Hi Roy,
Can you make it so that when I click on the Watchtower Icon on my Dock, that Watchtower Library, which has been previously opened and is hiding, who knows where, will maximize and thus come back into view on my desktop?
Thanks,
Terry
Hallo Sturm,
Andreas
Thanks so much!!
Hi Roy.
Really looking forward to the fix for this. Any idea of a time line?
Your work is very much appreciated, I promise you!
Thanks again.
Erik
Have you seen this link for the WTLib 2010/Wine issue? [http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=22127]
Dear Marilyn, Thank you for your kind words.
Dear Greg, Don’t think so. I have parallels too and no problems so far.
Dear Terry, I’ve mentioned it to Roy and he says he’ll look into it for a next version. Thanks for the feedback.
Dear Andreas, Thank you so much for helping answer Sturm.
Dear Kelly, We are so happy to help all our brothers. It’s lovely to receive kind feedback.
Dear Erik, Roy would love to get on with it now. However we have a lot of things going on at the mo. To be honest, it’s even difficult just keeping up with our replies to brothers. So please forgive us for sometimes getting very late responses.
Dear brother; I did install library 2010, and have many problems with it. I want to uninstall de program, and reinstall it, but it seems that it is leaving a gost app. in the hard drive. Can you please tell me how to uninstall the library.
Thank you
Dear brother; I did install library 2010, and have many problems with it. I want to uninstall de program, and reinstall it, but it seems that it is leaving a gost app. in the hard drive. Can you please tell me how to uninstall the library.
Thank you
Alicia,
To totally uninstall the Watchtower Library program you’ll need to do the following:
1. From the Applications folder on your Mac drag the Watchtower Library icon to the trash.
2. From your home folder open the folder “Library” then “Application Support.” From there you’ll see another folder called “Watchtower Library”
You’ll need to drag this folder as well to the trash.
3. Empty trash.
After that you’ll be ready to reinstall.
I followed the directions you have given several on total uninstallation of the WTLib program. I reinstalled the 2009 edition of the WTLib. Now, in attempting to apply the ‘fix’ to 2009 to make it think it is the 2010 edition, I do the Home thing, Library, Application Support, and then the only selection I have for the WTLib is Watchtower Library.app. This does not lead to Drive_c and further. It goes no further.
Hope you can offer guidance here.
Phil
THANK YOU!
I uninstall 2009 and reinstall it, and follow the instructions for de rs file and it is working great, thank you again
Great work to every one
Found this link and followed the instructions by moving the iphlpapi.dll from a working copy of xp. I then installed the 2010 and it worked.
http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?forum=1;app_id=8365;mhl=98554;msg=95395
Hope this helps someone.
Dear Philip, Thanks for answering some of the posts, we are so grateful. In answer to the .app problem, please see the following that I have pasted from Roy’s site:
Note, if you have Finder’s Show all filename extensions enabled, then your Watchtower Library folder will be named Watchtower Library.app due to a minor problem with naming the folder. In that case you will need to right click, or Control+click, the Watchtower Library.app and select Show Package Contents. Then you can start navigating down towards rs_data.
Hope that helps.
Hi Rachel,
The Philip with the question above is Philip “single l”
Phillip “double l” (the one who helps with the posts) doesn’t have a question.
Confused yet?
This is how I got WTlib 2010 to update/run without error on the MAC (Snow Leopard 10.6.6 with Roy’s Wine distribution from 2009).
I applied the hints given by Tobias in this link for Linux on the MAC and it works.
http://www.design-to-use.de/en/tobias-krais/linux-howtos/watchtower-library
ok, I do have a proper Windows license, so I could install the missing file. If you have a Windows license, go ahead as follows:
1. So just copy the dll (see link above) into/Library/Application Support/Watchtower Library/drive_c/windows/system32
2. run Watchtower Library
3. select Programs / Wine configuration
4. on the tab libraries enter in the “new override” field the name of that library “iphlpapi.dll” and select the Add-Button, after which it shows underneath the dll followed by “(Native, Builtin)”
5. Now you can close the 2009 library if still open, but keep the program loaded, enter the new 2010 CD, run the installer and off you go.
it installs and runs without error.
Thanx to Tobias Krais for his post for Linux, which can be directly applied to Wine on the MAC.
Best regards Wolfgang from Germany
oops, the Library path above should have been preceded by “own user”. It’s the directory with the house under users, not the one under macintosh hd…
Best regards Wolfgang
Really puzzled, since nothing makes sense. WT2009 still works, but according to finder, NONE of the following exist: Application support, Watchtower Library, drive_c, watchtower, E, rs_data, etc. etc. so I don’t know how it is possible that it works. I do have watchtower library.app, but the menu options for “right click, or Control+click, the Watchtower Library.app and select Show Package Contents” does not exist. How can this be, yet WTLIB2009 runs fine?? I am a REAL dummy on this stuff- can anyone explain it simply? I don’t want to buy a windows machine just to run the lib (other than email with the brothers, it is the only thing I use a computer for). I had continuous trouble with several windows pcs (thrown out now) and the Mac has never burped, except for this. Or do I buy a used HP mini thing, which I can’t see since it is so small? Thanks! (PS, I am old).
Dear Jeff,
Its all a bit puzzling What you might be getting into is System → Library → Application Support. And you’ll hit a dead end.
So try this:
Go to the “Finder” on the bottom left side of your dock (the blue faced icon). That SHOULD take you to your home folder where you need to start. But to make double sure you are in the correct starting folder choose the “Go” menu at the top of your screen and choose the 5th option down which has a little picture of a house.
From your home folder you’ll see folders named Music, Pictures, Movies, Documents and more. Double click on “Library” and follow the path:
Library → Application Support → Watchtower Library → drive_c → Program Files → Watchtower → Watchtower Library 2009 → E
Thats where you’ll find the rs_data folder that you’ll need to replace.
Hope that works.
Phillip
Just wanted to say that I got this working on my HP laptop with OSX86 – 10.6.6 on an HP, and Watchtower Library (2009 so far) works beautifully!! :)
THANK YOU!!!
Dear Brother,
I am trying to install Watchtower Library for Mac and WT Library 2010. I don’t have a 2009 disc, and I’m getting really lost. I have Mac 10.5.8 and have upgraded my X11. I keep getting a message that says there is a serious error and that I must quit. I have done in the past Crossover, but I’d like to be able to run it on Watchtower Library instead. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Your Sister,
Becky
I seriously recommend just buying Parallels for Mac….you won’t be sorry….I use it for my Quicken and WT Library 2010…..seamless perfection.
ok, sounds great. Here is a tricky question: I have 2009 German installed and want to upgrade to 2010 English. How does the workaround work in this case? I tried copying the E rs_data into the X folder and also creating a second E folder next to the X folder. Doesn’t work….. Any hints? Highly appreciated….
Thanks a lot,
Timo
Roy:
I followed your instructions for updating the2009 Watchtower Library to 2010 by deleting the 2009 rs-data folder and replacing it with the 2010 rs-data folder, and it works like a charm!
Thanks soooo much for all your hard work and help!
Your Sister in Truth,
Brenda
I have a NEW iMac. It is my first Mac ever. I installed the wtlib 09 per your directions one week ago. Great. Today received the 2010 WTLib disc. Had the problems described. Replaced the rs data 09 with the 10 as described. It works, but I get the- the program Wtlibrary.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs t o close . we are sorry for the inconvenience- BOX every time I open WTLIB. Should I ignore it? or should I do something about it? Thank You !!!
Your brother,
David – USA
The work around worked perfectly on my Mac Mini on Snow Leopard. THANK YOU for this great program and the work around!!!
Ash – Cozumel Mexico
Hi Roy,
I’ve had the same problems as everyone else except now my WT Library loads but never appears. When I accessed the ‘Program Files’ folder as mentioned, it simply has Common Files and Internet Explorer and nothing else so i’m unable to change any RS_data. I’ve probably messed it up some how by playing around with it but if there is a way around it i’d be grateful. If i have to wait for you to sort out the 2010 version i’m more than happy to wait.
Its been said before but thanks again for you hard work in providing this.
Hello.
I successfully fixed English 2010 of WTL by copying rs_dada – thank you!
Now I want to do the same for Korean (and Japanese & Chinese later on). Since the original English 2010 is not launched properly, I cannot close it properly either. Therefore, I cannot install another 2010 WTL. (It will say “please close all watchtower library before setup.”) Is there any solution to this?
Thank you!
Soo – US
Hello dear Friends
I have the wt 2009 on our Mac and would like to download 2010. Do I first download the 2010 wt and then do your work-around process, or do I do the work-around first and then download the 2010 wt. I’ve been a little confused. Will I later have to remove the 2009 Wt or should it stay?
Thank you for all your hard work. It has definitely been appreciated.
Linda
Thanks, the workaround works just fine. Wish I had your knowledge and patience. Great tool for studying. Wife and I use it all the time on our MAC’s.
Keep up the good work. We truly appreciate how this effort saves us time to spend together during our family DAY!
Thanks again.
E J
Hello,
Thank you for the great work and time spent.
I’ve WtLibrary 2010 running with wine 1.3.12.
What I miss is just copy/paste …
Do you have a patch for dlls/x11drv/winex11.drv/clipboard.c ?
Or an idea for me ?? Thanks.
Re,
In fact with the native dll iphlpapi it works, but you need a windows licence to use it.
Where I’m a bit confused, is that with your wine compiled version (ie wine-1.1.31-9-g671d839) the copy/paste works too much, I have always two instances of what I copied when I past.
So :
– wine 1.3.12 —> works great, no copy/paste
– wine 1.1.31 (roy rat) —> needs a native dll, copy / past twice.
Again, thanks, if I can help please tell me.
Kindly,
Fabino.
Hello
Help PLEASE I followed your instructions to upgrade to WA 2010 by replacing the rs_date folder in the WA library from 2009 to 2010 but when I open the WA library it has not upgraded… no 2010 info is there… I have also read the questions and comments hoping maybe I can figure out my problem but I am not computer lingual savy with Apple…
Thank you for all your hard work and your help
Helene… ;-) from California USA
I’m having a bit of trouble and wonder if someone could help me. First of all, we have Watchtower Library 2009 installed on both our iMac and our Mac laptop. Everything worked perfectly. I installed the 2010 version on the desktop and, while it doesn’t work, the 2009 version still works fine. However, when I installed the 2010 on the laptop, I lost the 2009 version. It still shows when I click on applications (under Watchtower Library) that 2009 is there but when I click on it, instead of getting the Watchtower Library opening screen (the orange picture) I get just a blank white box of the same size. I tried copying the pasting the rs data but it doesn’t work.
We’re still good, because we have a working 2009 version on the one computer. But I’m nervous about using the workaround to try to get the 2010 up and running just in case it crashes on me and we’re left with no library at all. Any suggestions?
In spite of these inevitable snags from time to time (we are dealing with computers after all!) this is a wonderful program. Thank you so much for making it available!
By the way, I should have mentioned we’re running Mac OS X 10.6.6.
Becky,
Unfortunately, you’ll need to start with the 2009 version first before upgrading to 2010. Ask around in your congregation and see if someone might have the old 2009 disc.
One more thing. Snow Leopard (10.6) is a really fine upgrade for your Mac. Much new software NEEDS 10.6. Its only a $29 upgrade.
Hope things work,
Phillip
Timo,
I think the best solution is to start over with English 2009 and go to English 2010.
Phillip
Dear David Donahue,
The “Serous Problem has occurred” message might be annoying but if everything works I wouldn’t play with the configuration. The error might have come from trying to first install the 2010 normally.
Phillip
Matt,
If you still have the 2009 disc I’d try reinstalling then going again to the 2010 version.
Let us know if that helps,
Phillip
Dear Linda,
If you currently have the 2009 version working then the process will be as follows:
1. Close the Watchtower Library for Mac program
2. Insert your 2010 Watchtower disc that you got from the Literature Counter.
3. Then follow the instructions HERE
Let us know if this works,
Phillip
Helene,
Is the Watchtower library working at all? If it still opens and works then even though it might say 2009 on the splash page it is the 2010 version. Check to see if you have the 2010 Watchtowers.
Let us know if that helps,
Phillip
Dear Pierre, Sorry that you are having trouble. It sounds like trying to install 2010 might have snagged it up a bit. I would recommend fully uninstalling everything and starting again.
Make sure WT Library is closed. Then go to your home folder(little house)>Library>Application Support>Watchtower Library. Drag the whole folder into trash. Start again with 2009 first then use the 2010 temporary fix Roy has done found here.
Dear Phillip, Can Roy and I just say a very big thank you. You are a darling! We have been mightily snowed under at home and your help is really appreciated. All our Christian love to you and yours.
You guys are so very welcome! I have really appreciated Roy’s program and am so glad to help you two and our brothers.
BTW – Jerome Abraczinskas on Welcome & Soo on 2010 Edition Crashes have some pretty specific questions that I don’t really know the answer to.
i still cannot get mine to work. am still using 2009 which has updated the day’s text but not the current meetings (obviously). could i please ask – very nicely – if when you do get this problem sorted you could email me?
many thanks,
sue
Thank you Philip for your help. I realised That I did not have to download the entire WT 2010 Lib, but only to copy over the rs_data from 2010 WT to the 2009 WT. It works great. So I see that we are still using the same 2009 WT but with the 2010 updates.
Thank you for Helping out Roy and Rachel. We all know what busy times these are.
Hello I recently received the 2010 edition. I uninstalled the 2009 version first. While doing this I also deleted the watchtower icon in the application folder. Now I can’t get either the 2009 or 2010 edition to auto run to install. I read where it say to drag the Setup.exe file to the dock on the library icon. Well that is gone to. Hopefully I didn’t screw it all up. Please help. Thanks!
Hello I just left a comment about an hour ago. I figured my problem out. Sometimes you think to hard about something easy to fix. Thanks for your hard work in allowing mac users to use this cd.
Just wanted to let everyone know that I was able to get the new version installed and working. I originally hit the same error that has been mentioned here and tried using Crossover instead. Hit the same problem there and found a fix in their forums so I tried it back in WT Library for Mac and it worked. So try this…
- Download this DLL: http://de.dll-files.com/iphlpapi.dll.html
- Replace the version of the above DLL in the C:\Windows\System32 folder of your WT Library for Mac install with the one you downloaded. I believe you have to do this from within the Wine File app using the Copy function. At least that is what I did.
- Open Wine Configuration. Click the Libraries tab. Add iphlpapi.dll to the override list and Apply.
- Install WT Library 2010 from CD. You MAY be able to use an existing install. I uninstalled before taking the above steps and finished with a new install.
Hope that helps
I can confirm that the fix from Bryant does indeed work.
It does not work with an existing install, so remove WTLib from your Mac before attempting this.
Re step 2 – I just used finder to copy over the new dll and that worked fine.
Then run WTLib 1.3 dmg and go to the Menu: Application > Wine configuration and add the exception as described by Bryant.
Pop the disc in, install and away we go again!
Thank you Bryant for the fix and Roy for the original program, hopefully this will help you get a fix implemented!
Am off to install it for our COBE now!
It looks like we’re getting very close to a simple fixed 2010 install.
@Bryant
@Graeme Wallace
Thanks for this ideas. But it dont works anyway. I went throu the description as written by Bryant, but the only “success” is, that there is no more the window about the bug… WTLib not works yet.
Any ideas?
(I cleared all wtlib installtions, too and made them new, however…)
Very glad for some help…
Best regards
Stephan
AWESOME! This Works!!!
I’ve always wondered why the WTBTS doesn’t support Apple. I keep hoping that each year they will release the Library for Mac. I asked my CO the same question and he said “soon…lets hope soon!” So even the CO wanted to see it opened up. Apple continues to gain great marketshare across the globe because of how buggy Windows is.
In the past I’ve had to run windows on my Mac. I mean it’s really the ONLY reason I run Windows. So to see this workaround and so well done is really appreciated.
Thank you so much brother. I appreciate your time and effort in developing this for 09 and now 10!!!
Hello I’m new to mac. Was really excited to hear of this for wt lib. I was able to get it to work and do the work around for 2010. But i’m running into a new problem. When running wt lib 4 mac, I can’t seem to get the window i’m working in to stay active. So when it opens up and both my english and spanish editions come up, i try to clicking in one to begin working and it immediately jumps back out of it. Any ideas?
Thank you
Brothers and Sisters,
Here is the fix for the 2010 Watchtower library. Crossover which I also use, solved the problem. All I did was apply it to this software.
First you most download the following file from this website.
http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?iphlpapi
The file you need is called iphlpapi.dll . On the middle right of this webpage is a box that says free download. In this box you will find a link that will allow you to download this file. (It does not cost a thing.)
Now that you have downloaded the file, set it aside. We will be using it in a few mins.
If you have not already installed WTCD 2010 do it now. (Do not worry about it telling you that it is not done right or any other error messages. Just dismiss them for the time being)
Now that it is installed, you need to go to the following. Under your user name: (in the following folders) Library: Application Support: Watchtower Library: drive c: windows: system 32 (Drop the file that you downloaded into system 32 folder.) It will ask you if you want to replace the other file in there already named the same thing. Click yes.
Ok, now open up this program that Roy so kindly made for us. Once there under applications (this can be found at the top of your screen right next to the words “watchtower library”) click on wine configuration.
In wine configurations click on the tab that says libraries. You will see a small box that says “New override for library:” In this box type the name of the file that you downloaded. (Here is the name for those that forgot: iphlpapi.dll Then click add.
It is going to ask for an affirmative response basically asking you if you know what you are doing and are sure you want to do it. Click the affirmative.
Then at the bottom click “apply” and then click “ok”.
Quit Watchtower Library and then restart it. It will work now. I have installed this on 3 mac computers. (an iMac, a macbook, and a macbook pro. With leopard, and with snow leopard. It works for both and all three types of macs.
I realized that I just posted a comment, but I forgot to mention that I did this also with both the spanish (which some other sites are saying is harder to make work than the english) and the english as well. Both work with the above method.
Hello Phillip
It FINALLY worked… YEAH… ;-)) Thank you for your help…
Hello Joel
I tried to follow your instructions however when I tried to install the 2010 WT nothing happened – did you use Phillips instructions first to replace rs_data and than your instructions?? I am not very comp literate so if any steps missing I will not know… sorry… ha ha ha ;-))
By the way does anyone know the application I need to download the digital daily text on the new ipod touch???
Well my brothers & sisters have a great day eve… whichever… thank you all for your help with a Mac… I love it but sure is a pain to know what is needed for programs etc to work… Your assistance is greatly appreciated…
Helene
Originally I had tried to do the work around first and then to install what I said. It did not work.
So I decided the best thing for me to do was to start fresh.
I am sorry that I forgot to mention that.
I re-downloaded Roy’s program and then installed the 2010 Watchtower CD Library into it again, with all the error messages.
Then did all the other stuff.
It worked.
I had used my computer (macbook pro, with snow leopard) as the test computer, and it did not work at first due to me trying to make the work around work on it first. It was only after I had started fresh.
On the other 2 computers the iMac and the macbook both with Leopard on it, I had not tried any work arounds first, and just did what I suggested in my above posts and it worked fine on them.
Hope this helps for those that want to use it.
Joel
I was reading about your 2010 WT fix to Helene but was wondering if you left in the 2009 Wt program or did you remove it as well when you started over.
Thank you for your imput. It is much appreciated.
Linda,
When I had started over fresh all I installed was just the 2010 Watchtower.
I hope this helps.
Joel’s method works!
One hook though…. once you type in the “iphlpapi.dll” make sure you get the “ask for an affirmative response…..” part.
It took a few tries but I got it to install on a Mac Pro and a 2006 Macbook.
Thanks!!
Hi Joel
Your method worked and I now have 2010 installed. The only problem that I have noticed is that when I copy over an article to “Pages” I get two copies. How can I remedy this problem Thanks for all your help.
We Mac users are so grateful for your program! it worked very well for me for WT Lib 2009. However, i am still not able to load 2010. When following your instructions, my WT Lib dose not shoe up under Application Support.
When i look at my Applications in Finder, it shows WT Lib last modified 12/15/09. Is someone able to help me!
the Lib opens 2009, but with 2010 Daily Text.
thanks!
Linda, I am not sure how to fix the double pasting. I noticed the same thing too. I found an article online that states that for some programs that when they are copied to Pages, Pages then duplicates the paste. Currently as far as that article states, nothing is being done, except to suggest not using the 2 programs together.
This is unfortunate for us, but currently nothing is being done to fix it, at least as far as the information in the article states.
You are welcome.
Christine, I have created a simple step by step PDF with computer screen snapshots of how to install it with no problems.
I uploaded it to my google documents for you and any other brothers or sisters to download.
It can also be opened in Preview (which comes standard on all macs) for those that might be worried about having to have a special software to open it. After downloading it, just double click on it to open it.
Here is the page link. (Be sure to copy and paste all 3 lines of it into Safari or what ever else you use to use the Internet.
https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=explorer&chrome=true&srcid=0B19BpqoysFEeYTA3NzM5MDgtNzU1NS00YmQyLWE2YjctMTllZmVhNDgzNWM5&hl=en&authkey=CJiI-rYP
I hope this helps.
Help! I tried to install wt lib 2010 using the disk and of course it didn’t work. Now I can’t figure out how to uninstall it so I can install wt lib 09’. When I reinsert the disk an error shows and no options to uninstall.
Kendra, did you try downloading or looking at the PDF that I created? It explains very simply how to get rid of the old for those that need it, and how to install the new for those that need it.
The link is just above your posting asking for help.
Dear Phillip,
Thanks for your great work. I copied your reply to me below for quicl ref.
Yes – I have the annoying warning and the dark blue 2010 WRLIB window too. These 2 windows only go away when I Quit WT and they cant be moved. I would like to fix that – my IMAC is only 2 weeks old.
My other problem is – when I open WTLIB and open an article – if I touch my mouse / try to scroll with a finger glide, the WT scrolls up and down uncontrolably. The mouse wont stop the scolling until it goes top to bottom 1 or 2 times. When I am reading Psalms that it a long time for the uncontrolable scrolling at break neck speeds to run.
Any ideas?
Thank you very much,
David D
Dear David Donahue,
The “Serous Problem has occurred” message might be annoying but if everything works I wouldn’t play with the configuration. The error might have come from trying to first install the 2010 normally.
Phillip
Thanks for all your help. Unfortunately I erased “09”. How can I re-install it so that I can try your fix for “10”. Any idea when the fix will be completed.
Thanks!
Richard,
The issue with installing the 2010 Watchtower CD is that it includes an out of date file on it that needs to be updated. The following PDF will explain how to install the 2010 version and then fix the problem.
The PDF can be found here:
https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=explorer&chrome=true&srcid=0B19BpqoysFEeYTA3NzM5MDgtNzU1NS00YmQyLWE2YjctMTllZmVhNDgzNWM5&hl=en&authkey=CJiI-rYP
Once there in the top left corner you will see the word file. Under file it will give you an option to download the original file. Do that, and then follow the simple instructions.
The basics of it are this.
You will need to erase what you have already tried to do.
Install a fresh copy of Roy’s program.
Install the 2010 Watchtower CD Library (And do not worry about the error messages you will receive, because remember the file that needs updating has not yet been updated.)
Update the file
Then restart Roy’s Program and you will then have a working copy.
Hope this helps.
Roy,
If you feel that it would help and only if you want to, feel free to download a copy of the PDF instructions on how to install the 2010 Watchtower CD Library and fix the out of date file, and then post it here on your site for everyones convenience. If you feel that you would rather not, that is fine too.
Thanks for making the program. My family and many of the friends at several of the Kingdom Halls in the Miami, Florida USA area have all enjoyed it a great deal and use it regularly.
Joel
Brilliant fix for the dll file.
This fix and Roy’s program make using the WT CD-ROM on the Mac a great experience.
Thanks to you both.
Allan
Dear Joel,
Thanks very much for your support. Just a word of caution however when it comes to using dll-files.com: please note the site’s disclaimer at http://www.dll-files.com/disclaimer.shtml.
Please review the information carefully and prayerfully, along with km 9/95 p. 6, paragraphs 10 and 11. The files stored on that web site are owned and copyright works of Microsoft Corporation who do not authorise publication by dll-files.com, so far as I can determine. Nor can they guarantee that the DLLs that you download are safe to use, free from viruses.
I recommend that users continue to use the 2009 program with 2010 data, by following the update instructions until the next version (2.0) supporting the 2010 library edition is ready (not too long).
Kind regards,
Roy
Roy,
In reply to what you said:
“The files stored on that web site are owned and copyright works of Microsoft Corporation who do not authorise publication by dll-files.com, so far as I can determine.”
I been taught how to fix this by another company who legally operates with the cooperation of Microsoft (the other company is called “Crossover for Macs”).
It was “Crossover” who was the group to determine the cause of the errors showing up when people were trying to install the 2010 Watchtower CD Library, as they too offer support for the Watchtower CD library and many other windows programs, although at the price of buying their software. They do not support or suggest for their paying customers to download illegal software, nor do they offer their customers the location of websites that they can download things that are copyrighted or illegal. Rather they had provided a site that where people can legally download .dll files.
They posted the fix for free for all those who used their product. I took the knowledge that I had learned from them, as a paying customer, and then applied it to your software, which works in a similar way, (due to being based on using Wine) but yet is still different.
I had also searched the Microsoft website as well to get it directly from Microsoft, however they do not offer any downloads of DLL files directly.
So I called the Microsoft Customer Support Number, and spoke directly to the Microsoft technical team. I asked them for the location of where to legally download .dll files from their website. They responded that they do not have that. That they do not support .dll files.
I asked him to please clarify what he meant by them “not supporting .dll files.” He responded that “yes while Microsoft does use .dll files in their programs, they do not own the files nor the rights to said .dll files when others use them in their programs that they create.” (Ex: 2010 Watchtower CD Library)
I asked him “Then where can I legally get support, and downloads for .dll files?”
He responded “http://www.dll-files.com/”.
I asked him “Does Microsoft support this site, and the download of .dll files from it?”
He said “No”.
I said “Please clarify. How can you not support it, and yet recommend it?”
To which he replied: “You miss understood me. Microsoft does not support it in the fact that it is not ours. The .dll files there are not Microsofts. Anyone can create a .dll file for a program. I recommended it because it is a site where you can get the needed .dll files and do so for free.”
I asked him, “So I want to clarify this, and make sure I understand. Are you saying that I have Microsofts permission to download these .dll files from that site, and do so legally?”
“Yes he said.”
(Here is the Customer service number for those that want to confirm this 800-642-7676)
I have read the disclaimer from dll-files.com several times. And I agree. In regards downloading things off the Internet, a person needs to be careful. However this file has so far proved itself to be virus free, and is recommended by a trustworthy company.
If the Brothers and Sisters do not feel safe downloading it, that is fine. Each one can do what they feel safe with. I am not bothered by it.
If you do not want to use it, that is fine. It does not bother me in the least.
If you do not recommend the Brothers and Sisters to use it, again that is fine. That does not bother me in the least either.
But just so everyone knows, it is legal to use it.
Best wishes to all the Brothers and Sisters, and we look forward to the 2.0 update. Can’t wait.
Kind regards and Brotherly love,
Joel
Thank you for this brother.
Hi, thanks for your site and helpful information.Unfortunately I am having trouble as others are. I deleted the ‘09 library before I read that you needed it. I started again. When I install the Disc image 1.3 it comes up as WT application. It is not the picture of the bible in the application support folder, it is a white stop sign. The size is 318.8MB. I right clicked and went to ’show package details’. It has dosdevices, drive_c, system.reg, user.reg,userdef.reg,and xdg. There is no folder to take the rs_data folder out of and replace. So I cannot continue. Please can you tell me what to do?? Thank-you in anticipation. Kind regards.
Dear Sue, Stephen M, Sorry that you are having problems. We have posted the latest info on the new version here. Please keep checking for progress.
Dear Mark, Glad it has all worked out in the end.
Dear Chucky, We know how you feel. It’ll be a great day when the CD arrives at the hall, turn it over and there in bold print under System Requirements it reads “Mac OS X or higher”!!
Dear Sidney, It sounds like an X11 problem. Go to Applications>Utilities>X11 and open it up. Then Command N for a second window. Command ` (Next to Z on the keyboard) to toggle between the 2 windows. If you have the same problem then it is X11. We would suggest re-installing it from your Apple installation disc.
Dear Linda, Roy has this double-paste issue on his to do list for the next version. I find it very annoying so I hope he can fix it!
Dear Christine, Not sure if you have it all working now. If not, can I ask, when you were trying to to look for WT lib under Application Support, were you in your home folder (the little house)?
Dear Margaret, We would recommend that you uninstall everything and start again. There is a step by step video on how to do this found here. Please ignore any reference to Frameworks, this was valid for a previous version only. Then pop in your 2009 CD and start again. Let us know how you get on.
Hi, thanks for the reply. It doesn’t work when I install again. I still have watchtower library.app in my library/application support folder as a white stop sign not a folder. Is there anything else I can do please?
Thank-you again, much appreciated.
Dear Margaret, Have you read Roy’s note in the instructions found here? You have to select [read more] to see it. I think this will answer your question.
Joel…thanks for the excellent instructions…followed them and it is working just fine for me. MacPro running 10.6.6
Thanks again!!
Rick, you are most welcome. I am glad that it worked for you so well.
Brothers I am not as computer savvy as the rest us, I am trying to download to my mac. I can’t I have followed the procedure from the youtube insrruction but mine does not have the open box and I get an error message. Please help the oral review is next week.
Thanks
Dear Winsome, We are not sure of the problem from your posting. The best thing to do would be to iChat Roy and let him screen share with you. His iChat address is roy at ratcliffe dot me (replacing ‘at’ and ‘dot’ with the appropriate symbols). We have to print it this way as this is a public website and ‘bots’ can scan and then spam if we put a proper address in!
Thanks my Sister I will do.
Hello dear brothers!
Thank you very much for your useful work!
I tried to follow your instructions however when I tried to install the 2010 WT in Portuguese nothing happened.
Then i change the wine settings to Windows NT 4 and it work.
So maybe this help the portuguese brothers: make sure that the portuguese version only work when we change the settings to windows NT 4.
Thanks
The problem with WTLib 10 can be resolved by copying iphlpapi.dll from Win XP system 32 folder into the system 32 folder w/in WT Library for mac. Then in WTLibrary for Mac go to applications/wine configuration. Choose the Libraries tab, type in “iphlpapi.dll” in the “new over ride” window, choose add, apply then OK. WTLibrary 10 should run.
Thanks for all your hard work My Brother and Sister.
Bruce, thank you for the info. I wish I knew what it meant because I’d really like to install the WT 2010. I no longer have the 09 version (maybe I can find one from someone however) I finally got the CD from the hall (Mid March) but can’t use it on any of our macs :( Is there a way of explaining how to do it in more simple terms?
Dear Michael, Following Roy’s temporary fix here is straight forward, I promise you! If you could just borrow a 2009 version from someone in the hall. If you experience any problems with the instructions, please don’t hesitate to post back here for help.
Wow! This is great! Thank you so much for all your hard work! Much appreciated.
Ignorieren Sie bitte jede mögliche „Rahmen“ Referenz.
Hey, thanks for all the help on everything! But I’m experiencing a problem. I tried to install WTL ’10 normally with the disk image 1.3 before it was a known problem that it would freeze and crash. So now, I tried to do the work around but every time I launch WTL and insert ’09 disk the frozen WTL ’10 pops up and I cant install ’09 to do the work around. All help would be appreciated, thanks!
Dear Gavin, There must be some files still knocking around on your system. You need to fully remove WTLFM files and start again. There is a video here that shows you how to do this. Please just ignore any ‘frameworks’ reference. This doesn’t apply anymore.
Thanks for your help. But I am perplexed. Besides having a Mac, I also have a machine running Ubuntu Linux. What I do not understand is: why one can run the WT 10 Library on a Linux machine without doing the major file exchange? Aren’t both operating systems very similar? These are the instructions:
http://blog.mattrudge.net/2010/12/16/watchtower-library-2010-on-ubuntu-10-x/
just curious… Thanks much.
Hi Everyone!
@ Todd
What kind of Linux is running on your machine? I’ve install 10.10 on my eeePC; also wine (v 1.2x?)at the first installation von WTLIB 10. Installation worked, but not the library. So i updated wine to 1.3.9 and the library worked, but printing isn’t working right now, i’m on it.
If you have wine 1.2.x installed, you won’t get 1.3.9 via apt-get, you have to add the package-sources:
http://www.winehq.org/download/deb
As said, after updating from 1.2.x to 1.3.9 it worked.
Greetings from Munich :-)
Hi, I just changed my hard drive and only have the v1.3 and the watchtower library 2010. What can I do to run the library in my mac? Help please
An easy solution was presented for those of us who didn’t have 2009 installed, nor have a copy, thanks to:
Posted by: Beau 4 months ago
I found this link on the wine site that might be useful in updating your install so it can support the installation and running of the 2010 WTL.
http://www.design-to-use.de/en/tobias-krais/linux-howtos/watchtower-library
(btw: yes it applies to mac, not just linux..just follow all the step by step instructions regarding the iphlpapi.dll file he mentions and you’ll be on your way.)
Dear Todd, You are right! The systems are similar. WTLFM just needs to be updated with the latest version of Wine, which is what Ubuntu uses. However, Roy is in the process of, not just doing this, but also completely changing the way WTLFM runs in order to fix all other issues with the program, and at the same time simplifying it for the bros. P.S. The delay is also because Roy has some seriously big Theocratic things on the go at the mo!
(compiled from a few different internet posts)
The following instructions will allow the Watchtower Library application to install WTLIB 2010 to install on mac.
1) In the Finder, navigate to Macintosh HD/Users//Library/Application Support/Watchtower Library.app
2)) Right-click (control-click) the Watchtower Library app and select “Show Package Contents”
3) Navigate to: drive_c/windows/system32.
4) Use your favorite web browser and download this dll file from this website:
http://www.dll-files.com/pop.php?dll=iphlpapi
(Ignore everything on the webpage, just download the file.)
It downloads as a zip file. Double click the zip file to open it. Inside the unzipped folder there is a file called “iphlpapi.dll”
5) Copy and Paste "iphlpapi.dll" into the system32 folder. When asked, Click “Replace.” Close all windows.
6) Open the program Watchtower Library (from your Dock). Close all language versions of Watchtower Library 2009 that open automatically.
7) From the menu bar of Watchtower Library, click Applications/Wine Configuration. Click on the Libraries tab.
8) In the “New override for library” field, type “iphlpapi” and click “Add.” (“iphlpapi” is not there, you’re adding it). When the warning dialog opens, click “yes”. The “Existing overrides” field should now show “iphlpapi (native, builtin)”…Click OK.
9) If you have Watchtower Library 2009 installed already:
From the menu bar of Watchtower Library, click Applications/Customize. Delete older language versions of Watchtower Library 2009.
Now install any language version(s) of the Watchtower Library 2010 CD and they should not crash.
Miguel, on my version of Snow Leopard I don’t have the option when control-clicking to “Show Package Contents” – any suggestions?
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I have an impromptu public talk and a household of Macs. I was quite nervous until I found your site. I loaded 2008 and updated the rs files. It looks and works great.
Dear Colin, Thanks for the feedback. Keep watching the main website for details on the new WTLFM.
I’ve done the “workaround” and it works, until I restart/shut down my Mac. Then I have to reinstall WT Library all over again. I have no clue why it’s doing this? Please some help! :(
The work around works great.
Thanks for all your hard work in making this available to use Apple users, it is truly appreciated.
Joel, thank you so much for the extra instructions for completing the WTLibrary 2010 install. It’s working great on my new iMac. :0)
I also have found a work around for the double paste issue. Try using TextEdit to paste all your chosen text for talk preparation, etc. Once you have all the information you need on your TextEdit file, then you can copy/paste, and arrange into Pages or any app.
NOTE: In the TextEdit app., make sure you change the Format to “Plain text”. This will prevent the double past from happening.
All my love to my dear brothers and sisters. :0)
Dear Tiera,
Do you have to reinstall the whole WT Library for Mac or the 2009 WT Library or just the 2010 work around?
Phillip
Hey Phillip:
I have to re-install the entire software all over again, b/c the app will not open at all once I’ve restarted my computer. First 2009→workaround of 2010. It’s really annoying. But I don’t know what to do about it.
Tiera
LION FIX – Please follow instructions found here
Works fine in 10.6.8. First Wtlib2009 installed, then update for rs_data -folder (to ver.2010). Thanx. :)
UPDATED:
The following instructions will allow the Watchtower Library application to install WTLIB 2010 to install on mac without having to copy the rs_data folder. NOTE: This installation issue is resolved for upcoming versions of WTLIB.
1) In the Finder, navigate to Macintosh HD/Users//Library/Application Support/Watchtower Library
2) Navigate to: drive_c/windows/system32.
3) Browse to the following site: http://www.dll-files.com/pop.php?dll=iphlpapi
Download the iphlpapi.dll
It downloads as a zip file. Double click the zip file to open it. Inside the unzipped folder there is a file called “iphlpapi.dll”
4) Copy and Paste “iphlpapi.dll” into the system32 folder. When asked, Click “Replace.” Close all windows.

Now insert any language version(s) of the Watchtower Library 2010 CD and install.
Loin has no user Library direction that the instructions to update WTL9 mentions. If I’m understanding the instructions I want to replace the directory in the WTL9 application anyway, right? If so all that other talk user Library is confusing to say the least.
In Lion apple hides the Library folder but it is still there. To see it:
From the Finder menu select Go/Library (to go to your home’s library)
Select Go to Folder …
Type in /Library (to go to the Macintosh HD Library
Type in /Macintosh HD/Users/
Hope this helps
For the user’s home folder include your username between the Users and the Library path for example:
/Macintosh HD/Users/MIGUELCHAN/Library
Chris – you do not need to replace the directory in the WTLIB 9 application.
All you need to do is install and register the iphlpapi.dll file and thats it. 2010 install just fine.
Please put a warning not to install 2010 as a fresh install on the front page. I did just that later to find out it doesn’t work and it prevents me from installing 2009 then upgrading to 2010. It’s simply impossible to get rid of the partly installed 2010, none of the uninstall tips works. It is not present in any of the folders mentioned in the uninstall guide. Man, this is just not worth the hassle, I’ll buy a PC.
Me and my grandpa are searching for the library folder. As I look in the Macintosh HD folder, I see the library, in that folder is the folder Application Support, but in this folder I don’t find any folder called Watchtower library or Watchtower library.app. In the home folder I can’t find a Library folder. So can anyone help me please? My grandma has the newest model of the iMac with Lion.
Sorry for my bad english hahah :)
My edition says that I need to close all other editions of Watchtower Library first. Then it seems as though the 2010 edition will start, but the window doesn’t come up. I tried some of the things mentioned already. I think I may have made it worse. I also needed to install another language. Help?
Hey everyone! I’m working on a script to install WT 2010 on Lion until the problems are resolved later…
Those who which to test it out (no guarantees ;) ) can download v0.1 it here:
http://www.interwebplus.com/downloads/WT2010/Lion%20Watchtower%20Library%20Installer%200.1.zip
Dear Olivier, Nice bit of Apple Script you have there. Problem we think with it is, it puts Wine on your Mac in a difficult-to-reverse way. Makes it difficult to uninstall.
The script assumes X11 is installed which has proved a problem in the past with Watchtower Library for Mac and the new version undoes that.
However version 2 is currently under beta test. So far so good. We will be releasing in the Mac App store soon.
Hey Rachel, Glad to hear about v2!
Actually to uninstall my script’s wine and WT, all one has to do is a “sudo rm -rf /wine; rm -rf .wine”…
As for X11, I do believe that it is installed by default on Lion, no?
I forgot to mention my script is meant to be Lion-only…
HI Roy, Since I installed os lion on my mac, the wt library opens but my keyboard does not function properly. Every key I press entered a different letter than supposed to. Have you encountered this in the past and if yes was there a solution? Thanks for your help and have a great day.
I had to install a fresh version of Watchtower Library for Mac on my Lion OS and i can’t find the home folder / applications /… to update from 2009 to 2010. Any idea where it moved to in Lion? Maybe i am missing something. Thanks.
Appreciate all your work for us. Hope to get the real thing one day soon. :)
Dear Jason, That process is no longer required with version 2.0 of WTLFM. Have you downloaded this version or the old one, 1.3? There is a video to show how to install with the new version in the Videos section of this website
Hi, and thanks for the helpful program.
I was still running 2010 version of WTL with version 2.0 of WTL for Mac on several mac´s with Lion OSX.
But a couple of days ago, when opening WTL for Mac it will not open the library.
it shuts down with and only gives a page looking like a failure report to Apple.
The 2010 version is usable until february, so what do I do ?
Have tried 2.1 version also with no luck.
Hi,
thanks for at great program. I am now running wtlib 20111 on Lion :-)
Yesterday, I had a crash though, and after that I was unable to start WTLFM. It would briefly display the little book shelf window and then exit with an error message. Maybe, that’s also your problem Eirik?
Anyway, I realized that some processes (“wine” and “wineserver”) was still running in the background and once I stopped these processes I could start WTLFM and the actual wtlib2011 just fine.
Have you tried that Eirik?
Roy – is it possible to include some kind of check in the initial launch phase of WTLFM that will detect running wine processes and kill them?
Hello Brothers and Sisters,
I still use Mac OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.
I do not know why, but the new CD WTlibrary 2011 will not install on the last Watchtower Library , I tried the old one who does it now normal, this time i don’t use iphlpapi.dll, I was so glad that i have now the Library 2011, but if you copy and paste does everything twice again, as before.
And now i use text editor, i have now everything one time, and later i copy and past in openoffice.
Thanks for all your work for us.
Eunice from Holland
I want to tell you that everything is alright now, i didnt seen de new version from the Watchtower Library for Mac v2.1
I want thank you all for de work, i am sorry for my bad Englisch writing.
Eunice
thanks for at great program from Holland
Hi, I installed 2011 wtlib on my mac and I’ve had problems with it locking on startup. The way I installed it is different from the previous past 2 years. Somehow Lion opens up Windows and it seems to be running off that platform within my Mac. I think the best way for me to deal with it is to remove wtlib completely and then start from scratch. What do you think? To do that I still need the 2009 disc right? Thanks! Jon
Hello Jon, I have no Lion but still Snow Leopard , I removed the previous wtlibrary and install the new wtlibrary, therefore you do not need the 2009 version. I think it works so well with Lion, delete the old one and install the new wtlibrary and install wtcd 2011 again, this should work, there’s a video in which show how it works.
