Drive C
By Roy Ratcliffe, May 16, 2010
When installing a Watchtower library edition, the installer prompts for a place to install the library. Please do not change this location.
The reason is that drive C is just a virtual location, not a real one. Even if you have other software with their ‘own’ drive C’s, such as Parallels or VMware, this drive C is separate. These programs also create their own virtual drive C’s. There will be no confusion.
When you specify C:\Program Files\Watchtower, the C just refers to a folder within your home directory, specifically HOME/Library/Application Support/Watchtower Library/drive_c (where HOME stands for your own home folder).

Hi,
Thanks a lot for your work, it is most appreciated. I installed the WTL09 a while a go and was using it with no problems. Then today I tried it again and it failed to run. I did some cleaning up in my computer some time ago and probably erased something so I decided to erase the installation completely and then reinstall it. When I did this I noticed that the folder for the frameworks did not exist, but I did all the rest of the uninstalling process anyway. I installed the application as explained in your video. After reinstalling it I noticed that the position of all the keys in the keyboard had been changed randomly; all the rest of the applications were not affected by it.
Any idea how to fix this???
Thanks,
Paul
Dear Paul, It sounds like X11 is missing. Or perhaps damaged. The app relies on the X11 package. Perhaps you could re-install that and try again. You’ll find it on your OS installation DVD.
X11User.pkgis the name of the package. Please see the FAQ for more info on X11User for your platform.I installed the WT library on my iMac today and it shows it’s icon is on my dock, and when I click on it, the bookmark bar shows it’s open, but nothing opens on the screen. Not grey screen, just my regular desktop pic. I can look at the drop down menus, but there is no way to open the library. Can you please tell me what I did wrong? Also, I noticed in the applications folder it is there, but yet when I look at the Application folder, the WT icon is there, but with a “no” symbol over it (circle with slash) ?? Thanks in advance.
Cheryll
Hi Roy,
Thanks for your work on creating a great helper for us forgotten Mac users! I tried following the instructions to install TSWIN and for some reason they don’t complete. When I try to create the 1st mentioned shortcut, everything turns up as ‘0’ and that includes the shortcut.
I wondered too, that once this problem is fixed will installation of the software for CO’s install on the Mac? A close friend of mine just got invited into Circuit Work and is switching to a Mac. He wanted to use the program in the Mac eviron if possible.
Thanks,
Mark
Cheryll, Have you loaded up a Watchtower library? You need a CD-ROM from the literature desk. Please see installation walkthrough.
Mark, Which instructions are you following? I think I picked up your message on a previous thread. Not quite sure what you mean when you say ‘turns up as 0’. There is some help at the project development site.
Hi Roy. Yes it installed but it just won’t launch. The icons are on my screen but when i click on it nothing happens. This is our first computer and my sister came over to load it for me and she also has a Mac and had no probs with her installation.
Dear Cheryll, Please try dragging the
Setup.exefile from the CD-ROM to the dock icon. Does that launch the installer?Hi Roy. She tried that several times but it would not stay there. My computer language is lacking so I’m not able to explain myself very well.Could we have missed a step? Should we uninstall and start all over?
Ah, I see. So the icon did not stay. I think I’m beginning to see what’s happening at your end: my guess is that X11 is missing on the machine in question. Hence the app cannot launch. Please check out the FAQ regarding X11. You need to install it first. Regards, Roy
Roy, I am Cheryll’s sister. She was mistaken on the setup.exe staying on the icon. I did get it to stay and the library did install. The problem is when you click on the WTicon, it shows up on the upper bar (not sure what that’s called) “Watchtower Library”, etc and I can click on those drop down menus but the program itself doesn’t “launch” on the screen. ??? Does this make sense?
Dear Donna, I see. That’s good. So the app is running; the library installed; but the library itself does not launch even after successful installation. I see.
You should see a new item under the Applications menu (the top bar is the menu bar). Can you see the installed Watchtower Library edition; and can you click it?
Roy, thanks. There is the WTL icon in her applications, but it has that universal symbol meaning “NOT” the circle with the slash through it on top of it. ??? Never seen that before.
She isn’t home right now, but I will try what you said later. I didn’t try to click on it in the menu, just her icons in her applications on her dock. Thanks again.
Roy, I am home now and I did what you said clicking on WT Library in my apps menu, and then the same thing happened that happens when I click on the WT icon on my dock. The menu comes up but not the Library itself on my screen.
Hi Donna and Cheryll, I think the best thing to do would be to iChat and allow me to take over your screen to have a look. My Google Talk account is rachel@royratcliffe.me.uk. I look forward to speaking to you soon.
Thank you Roy. As soon as I can get my sister here to handle that part of technology I know absolutely nothing about, you will be hearing from us. I appreciate your patience.
Hello Roy,
I’m having the same issue as Cheryll/Donna. A brother who has this on his Mac installed your setup for me today and the WT library CD thereafter and he had to leave before it finished. I followed through with it and it said it “finished” like your video shows, however I’m not able to get anything “launched”. I have X11. All things show in my applications menu, everything looks ok, it just never launched like yours did on the video right after installation. Don’t know what to do??? Help. Thank you so much! ( I’m so excited I won’t have to use Parallels to get to XP and open my WTL!!)
Nichole Hyde
Dear Cheryll, Donna and Nichole, sorry about the trouble you are experiencing. It’s hard to picture what is happening from the description. Perhaps we could meet up via iChat and share screens, and see what is going on. You can get us both at roy/rachel at royratcliffe.me.uk using iChat.
P.S.
Tuesdays and Wednesdays are our main ministry days, plus the weekend. You might catch is in briefly on those days. But best times are Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. We’re on British Summer Time (BST) or Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) depending on the time of year (summer versus winter). Our local time basically synchronises with London time although we live to the north in Lancaster, not far from the Lake District, United Kingdom.
Hi Roy,
so glad to have checked this page again. Hoping that sometime tomorrow or at least by monday we can meet up via iChat and get this resolved. Thank you very much!
Cheryll Masciotra
Roy i have the same trouble that Nichole Hyde. it´s seems every thing ok, i have x11, ican install but when i want to lunch nothing happens. i used this before without trouble. Please help mme i need it.
Thanks

Dear Cheryll and Fernando, Sorry I can’t be of much help. Without seeing what’s happening, it’s hard to suggest some course of action. Best solution: meet up via iChat. You can get me at the address “roy at royratcliffe dot me dot uk” where you replace the “at” and “dot” with the appropriate symbol. I’m avoiding writing it to reduce spam scraping!
Hi Roy,
I just read your note. As soon as i figure out the iChat thing I will be contacting you. Thank you.
P.S. I told you i was new at this:]
I have been following the comments about not launching. I am running Snow leopard and I have parallels 5.0 on my mac. I wrote earlier about the “C” drive issue. I turned off parallels and windows and then did an install of WTLIB. It won’t launch. When I go to finder to launch it, a message tells me that there is something missing or corrupted in WTLIB. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling a number of times. What I noticed during install is that it tells me there was an error creating shortcuts as follows:
c:\users\public\start menu\programs\watchtower library
c:\ frick heilingbrunner\desktop\watchtower library
I suspect that this might be the problem. Any ideas why these shortcuts can’t be created?
For your info, although it probably has no bearing on the issue, I also noticed that if I try to launch an install by right clicking the CD icon on the desktop and launching it using the exe. file, it starts windows XP and parallels, installs WTLIB and the program works fine through that setup.
Hi there I’m having the same problem as Cheryll, Donna and Nichole. I installed everything as per the instructions in the video but WT library never launched automatically after installation. When I click on WT Library in the Applications folder nothing happens either. Wt Library is listed in the Applications tab in the open application and it is set to launch at start-up but nothing happens. I checked the directories and everything installed in the proper folders. If you can offer any help I’d appreciate it. Thanks very much.
Dear Frick, Are you altering the default installation path? Please see here.
Dear Abi, Do you have X11 installed?
Dear Roy,
No. I am using the default installation path. I’ve reinstalled WT Library for Mac and also Watchtower Library. Same problems. WTLIB doesn’t open. Also the same messages as noted before during installation. I checked for X11 and Mac says it has version 2.3.5.
Thanks
yes. i have that problem too, i mean there was an error creating shortcuts as follows:
c:\users\public\start menu\programs\watchtower library
c:\ frick heilingbrunner\desktop\watchtower library
during installation. Roy i know that you are doing an effort and thanks for that. So for your info i have snow leopard and this problem of not lunching suddenly appeared becouse worked for me 2 weeks ago i formated my mac for a long story and watchtower was gone, i can install but still not lunch… i really sorry…
Fernando
Dear Frick and Fernando, It sounds like everything is perfect. It should install correctly. So I’m wondering if you have encountered the mysterious CD-ROM corruption problem. Do you have another CD-ROM that you could try out? Alternatively, you could get me via iChat at roy at royratcliffe dot me dot uk so we can try to work out what the problem is by looking under the hood.
Dear Roy,
Thank you very much for Watchtower Library on Mac!
I installed 2 different language editions of Watchtower Library. I had the same problem with Cheryll and others when I installed the first CD of Watchtower Library (English edition). The library did not launch. You said there might be a problem with the CD-ROM, so I tried to install the second CD (other language). It went well, and when I clicked the Watchtower Library icon after I installed the second language, both language edition launched. Which means the 1st CD (English edition) was installed correctly, but it just did not launch until the 2nd CD was installed.
I wonder if this might give a hint to Cheryll and others’ problem, so I decided to share this. I’m sorry if it is not helpful.
Thank you.
Dear Kristanto, I wonder if the problem concerns the MSVC (Microsoft Visual C) libraries required by the Watchtower library Windows program. These get quickly installed towards the end of the installation process. Hence a correct installation on the second CD will correct the problem for the first as well. Does that make sense? I’m guessing. Hard to tell without looking carefully at what the installer outputs, but that’s what occurs to my mind in order to make sense of your report.
i’m sorry Roy but i don`t understan when you say “roy at royratcliffe dot me dot uk” where you replace the “at” and “dot” with the appropriate symbol”… and worst. i can’t still lunch the watchtower.. definitely is something wrong but i don’t know what… i can install, some problems to uninstall, i can’t lunch when is installed. please … save me
Dear Fernando, That’s my address. You can use it to contact me via iChat; just replace dot with “.” and at with “@” and remove the spaces. Regards, Roy
Dear Roy,
I have been trying a few things based on others’ posts.
I installed WTIB 07 Spanish and my WTLIB 08 E and both work perfectly. I borrowed another disc of WTLIB09E and installed it but to no avail. It loads and shows up in the menu on the Dock but still won’t open. I am curious as to why the disks work fine on PC’s but not all will work on WTLIB for Mac.
I tried to set up an I Chat account but have been running into difficulty with trying to find a provider that provides a free service since It isn’t something I normally ever use.
Since Fernando seems to be having the same problem, I’ll wait to se if you can resolve it with him. In the meantime I’ll use 08 and see if I can find an 09 disk that behaves itself..
Thanks so much for your hard work. It’s great not to have to open Windows and Parallels to use WTLIB.
Thanks, Frick
Dear Frick, Google provides chat services for all their accounts called GoogleTalk. iChat accepts such.
I sounds to me like CD-ROM corruption. Though I could be wrong. Could you temporarily borrow another brother or sister’s disk?
Woohoo! I’ve been doing stuff on partitioning my HD, running VMwareFusion (with Windows) but this is far most the easiest solution to get the Watchtower Library running on our iMac. My wife and me are very pleased with this. Thanks for your effort.
I’ll fix this for my sister inlaw too. She’s got an iMac but can’t run the Watchtower Library either. But with this… YES!
Thanks again!
Is there any reason this would not open on the latest OS update? I upgraded to 10.6.4 and your application won’t run.
Thanks Dennis. Glad it works for you.
Stephen, I suspect that you might not have X11 installed on your machine. Please see FAQ. It should run fine on 10.6.
Roy,
I installed xquartz (2.5 i believe) and it seemed to install fine but yourr program still won’t run. I do not have access to the cd.
I need to clarify my comment above.
I do not have the SL cd. I installed xquartz 2.5 the one for SL, it installed fine. when I open your download and drag it to the applications folder, it will not run and I get the message that I need to contact the developer.
Hi, I love this app and thank you for your hard work. I was wondering why I cannot copy text to paste to a separate document. This is useful when compiling relevant research for discourses. Am I doing something wrong. “Command+C” doesn’t work.
Never mind. I found that you have to use the Copy selection from the drop-down window within the app. Thanks.
Dear Stephen, I have not yet tested it with 2.5; there may be some X11 issues with the new version. I have tested it with the
X11User.pkgthat comes with Snow Leopard. Could you try that version? It appears on your Leopard installation DVD.Everybody…. something happend on my snow leopard OSX, i don’t know what but i formated and reinstalled OSX for other reasons and i install WT LIB 09 with the Mac installer Mac’s Roy… and guess WORKS!!! (a detail: i reinstalled WL 09 without update de OSX Leopard) i hope keep working for ever.
Thanks (Thanks Roy, again)
Hi, i just installed the Library in Dutch, and i have the same strange problem as the rest. It installed correctly, and i see the app running and the bar on the top that says “Watchtower Library”. But that is the only thing i see. When i click on Applications>Watchtower Library it just wont start. Is there a way to make it work?
Thank you for all you efforts!
Do not upgrade to 10.6.4! It will render WT Library non-functional. It seems to be some issue with the way that the program and x11 interact. That 10.6.4 prevents the application from communicating with x11. I have installed the version of x11 on my install disk but that does not solve the issue.
Any suggestions Ray?
Thanks very much for your help!
Sorry! Roy(not Ray)
Dear Lorenzo, It sounds like the library proper is not launching. Could you run the Utilities>Console app. It displays internal error messages which might give some clue as to what’s happening on your computer.
Dear Tristan, I’m running it on 10.6.4 where the only new issue is the double-paste. Everything else seems to be working as normal.
Hi Roy, if i look in the Console app is see about 300 errors, and they all look like this:
09-07-10 10:05:39 [0×0-0xae0ae].uk.me.royratcliffe.Watchtower_Library2922 fixme:actctx:parse_depend_manifests Could not find dependent assembly L"Microsoft.VC90.CRT" (9.0.21022.8)

Looks like i am missing a Microsoft app. Any idea of what this is? Thanks for the tip though, still new in OS X.
Ah yes. Others have experienced this problem too. Something goes awry at the end of installation where it should install Microsoft’s Visual C run-time. Perhaps you could try renaming or deleting the
Watchtower Libraryfolder under~/Library/Application Support(~means home directory). Then try reinstalling. When doing so, make sure that Finder’s Show all filename extensions preference is unchecked.Hello Roy
Thank you for the hard work and time you have put into this.
I have used the application without any trouble… until lately .
My Mac ( with snow leopard ) had to be reformatted and now Library won´t work.
I think the error is here:
Dyld Error Message:
Library not loaded: /usr/X11/lib/libXfixes.3.dylib
Referenced from: /Applications/Watchtower Library.app/Contents/MacOS/../Frameworks/XServer.framework/Versions/A/XServer
But even after reinstalling X11 its the same error.
:-( what to do ??
Reason: image not found
Dear Gabriel, That error message means that it cannot find X11 in the usual place. Do the files it complains about exist on your hard drive? Worth checking. You can also run X11 separately via X11.app under Applications/Utilities. Does that run by itself?
Thanks……. now its re-istalled…..but even when the app seems active ….nothing happends :-( its not opening anything.
Just to clarify . Watchtower Library is now installed
but when launching it just shows active but without any menu .
Thanks! I removed the folder and reinstalled. Works perfect!
Thanks again for the great feedback.
OK….. after deleting and re-installing 3 times it works……. :-)
Oh good. Glad it’s working Lorenzo.
Gabriel, I wonder what the matter was… Glad it’s working for you though.
hi thanks for all your hard work. I had wl07 working on my mac but once i uninstalled it and installed wl09 it will not launch wl09. I had the issue with having to put the c:\ it came up as a % instead so i manually put the C:\Program Files\Watchtower as the path but even though i changed it to c:\ it still wont launch. What should i do?
Dear Julian, You are very welcome. Could you check your log messages by running the Console app. You will find it under Applications > Utilities. When it launches do you seen any error messages?
Hi Roy these are the error messages i’m getting i don’t know what any of this means though.

Thanks for taking a look
Hi Roy I was reading some of your previous posts and i realised i was having the same issue as Lorenzo.
Its all working now thank you so much for all your help now i can finish my talk
:-D
Thanks Roy! I deleted and installed a few times and now it seems to be running ok.
Hi Roy,
I’ve been following the posts but haven’t had time to set up a chat. However tonight when I tried to open WTLIB 08, There was nothing there. Somehow both WTLIB 08 and WTLIB spanish disappeared. I deleted Watchtower library for Mac and reinstalled it. Then installed WTLIB 08E and thought why not try WTLIB 09 again. They both installed beautifully. I did notice that during the install of 09 this time there were no error messages regarding shortcut creations.
I don’t know how or why but it worked this time.
Thanks again for the effort you put into this program. I haven’t had to open Parrallels and XP on my machine for a while now and I don’t miss it.
Frick
Hi Roy,
Just had a thought after I hit submit on the above post. I had read your reply to Lorenzo 5 days ago and had unchecked the file name extensions preference in Finder in anticipation of reinstalling WT for Mac. May be that is the reason it installed properly.
I am running Snow leopard and now that I solved the problem, it’s clear it isn’t an operating system problem as Tristan thought.
However I have been getting a double paste issue that you mentioned. On mine, the first paste is the correct font and the next is a different ,larger font.
Any clues on that one?
thanks again, Frick
I’ve been using mac library with your program, but since a few days ago I get this"The program WTLibrary.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close. We are …)
…. it is due? (Sorry for the translation I used online translator)This can be caused by a problem in the program or a defiency on Wine. You may want to ckek http: //appdb.winehq.org for tipos about running this application. If this problem is not present under Windons and has not been reported yet, you can report it at htt://bugs.winehq.org"
Dear Tristan, I’m glad it worked out in the end. Sorry that you had to wade through the comments. I’ll post a little article about the extensions off issue, just in case others encounter it.
Dear Frick, What is happening with the double paste: it pastes as rich text and plain text, both. It’s something related to changes in the latest OS X update.
Dear Mano, I recommend trying to reinstall. Seems like you have a corrupted program or data.
Thanks,,,, I did, I went back to install the program and all is well again ….
Hi brother thank you so much for this program.
I have a lot of time search WTL for mac
But don’t work in my mac I have macos 10.6 and install but not works
Do you know why?
sorry for my english
I installed TSWIN successfully following your instructions. How can I copy my files into the C: directory that I had on my Windows machine? I’ve tried every key combo I could think of and I can copy them but not paste them into the C: directory in Wine. Please help if possible!
Thanks.
Dear Victor,
Does the app itself run? Or are you finding problems installing? Or, can you run the app, install the CD but not launch the library?
Regards, Roy
Dear Mark, Best if you use Finder. If you select the app menu, you will see the Reveal Research Favourites option. Click that, then navigate to
drive_cfolder. This folder is the ‘virtual’ drive C for your Windows sub-system. Copy things here and they will appear to other Windows programs, such as TSwin, etc.Hello,
I have Snow Leopard, X11, and the original 09 CD. After downloading, the “drag to applications” window comes up. The main WT Library icon appears but no installer comes up like in the video. Must be way when I click on the icon it will freeze.
Hi Bret, Could you check your Console log to see what messages appear; else try a different CD-ROM if you can.
OK, after installing the 06 edition the 09 installed and is working normally for now, thanks!
¿Cual es la última versión actual de Watchtower library en español?
Muchas Gracias
Bueno. El watchtower library para Mac es siempre en español. Pero el disco que viene del sucursal es el edición 2009.
Phillip
I have 2 different macs, one has been operating fine, until a week ago, nothing would happen, so i went and installed it on my other mac, both operating leopard 10.6.4 with x11.
i followed exactly what roy mentioned and i qoutePerhaps you could try renaming or deleting the Watchtower Library folder under /Library/Application Support ( means home directory). Then try reinstalling. When doing so, make sure that Finder’s Show all filename extensions preference is unchecked."
worked and thanks so much!!!! solved problem, even after installing on my wife fresh new mac, had problem, followed above, all good.
thanks roy
regards
ian
Wonderful. I’m glad it’s working for your Ian. Kind regards, Roy
I read some of the comments above about the application launching but with no window opening.
I just installed it onto our iMac running 10.6.4. It works fine on my account but won’t run on my wife’s. I think the problem is that the data from the cd-rom is installed on my home library rather than that of the main system. I tried dragging the folder from my library to the system library app support but it doesn’t work.
I didn’t get the prompt to make it available for all users when I installed it. I removed it and re-installed it but again that prompt didn’t come up.
I guess a work around would be to use some kind of alias to point other user accounts to my home library where the data is. Seems a messy way of doing so.
What do you think?
Hi Jeremy, There is no option for multi-user installation. That was an early design decision, taken to simplify the project. It is possible to share the installation using a manual set-up using aliases, but probably not worth the effort unless you have a very large number of users on the same machine. Sharing needs some care as well, because users typically do not want to share research favourites. So it’s a selective sharing requirement.
hallo!
Rudolf Doschek
Thanks Roy
What I’ve done is to set up a new user account which I’ve called Watchtower. Anyone in the family can log in there to use the library.
Looking at many of the comments previous to mine, I get the impression that most of them are on macs with several accounts where they had the same problem as I had. It may be worth putting a new FAQ to highlight it.
Regards
Jeremy
Hi Jeremy, That’s one way to share. However, you will have overlapping research favourites. That could be a plus or a minus, depending on your point of view!
P.S.
Good idea about a new FAQ.
Hi Roy
I take your point about the favourites, however it is not a problem for me as I never use that feature. The only other way as I see it is to load the data separately onto each user’s account. This could be a problem for computers which are running out of disc space.
I suppose it could be loaded onto an external thumb drive, which could easily be accessed by each user. Mmmm may be onto a winner there.
Hi Roy
When I download the dmg file it opens automatically no problems but I see no framework icon. On your video it shows how you install the framework. I do not have this option since i do not get the framework box. What do i do?
Thanks
Dear Eric, You do not need the framework with version 1.3; I need to update the video. My bad. Just drag the app to Applications and you’re away! (Actually, the app embeds the framework.)
Aloha from Maui -
After downloading the installer, the dmg (yellow box) package isn’t there. This is on my new MacBook Pro running fully updated SL. It installed fine on a4 year old MBP which I updated to SL.
Help!
You are almost revered (I did say almost), across the pond and pacific by the brothers here in Hawaii using their Mac’s…a very wonderful provision; mahalo nui loa…thanks heaps!
Your brother, Bob
Dear Bob, Thanks for your kind words. You are very welcome. But don’t forget to “almost” revere the brothers who made Watchtower Library. Quite a feat when you consider the number of languages it supports and how reliably it works. I only bodged a Mac wrapper for it using Open Source software. I’ve done nothing, in comparison. But thanks for your thoughts and kind regards anyway.
Sorry about the missing framework package. You actually do not need it. The video is out-of-date. I should get around to fixing it. Sorry. Just proceed with the installation by dragging the application to Applications. Let me know if you have any problems.
Thanks for the great program.
I have a bug. When I paste text from the Watchtower Library I get 2 copies everytime. One is formated and one is plain text.
Is there a way to fix this?
Dear Nathan,
Unfortunately there is a small bug that double pates the text. Currently there isn’t a fix. We’ll see if Mac OS 10.6.5 corrects it or if Roy will need to patch something up.
Phillip Hall
Dear Nathan, Sorry about the bug. We do know about it. The problem arose because of a change in OSX. Roy has done a fix and included it in the next version. Watch this space for it!
Just wanted to say thank you!!!!! THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!!!! :-)
Is very nice and generous to provide a link to the wtlib disk image, but you should know that this violates the copyrights and is illegal
Dear Roger, We agree with you about not providing links to a Wtlib disc image, so we don’t. Our program does not include this, just a program to enable you to run it. You will need your own Wtlib disc in order to use it.
p.s. If someone else posts links we will delete it.
Dear Roy,
I have downloaded the disk image, dragged the app to the application folder and am now attempting to move on to the installation stage.
However when I double click the WT Library app, rather than the welcome page coming up before I insert the WT disc like it is supposed to, a box appears that says:
The program WTLibrary.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close.
This can be caused by a problem in the program or a deficiency on Wine. You may want to check http://appdb.winehq.org for tips about running this application. If this problem is not present under Windows and has not been reported yet, you can report it at htt://bugs.winehq.org"
I’m not sure what this means or that I even had Wine to begin with. Any ideas how I can fix it?
I’ve tried re doing everything several times and the same message keeps appearing.
Thanks for any help.
Sarah
Please help me to add the new year text 2011 to 2009 W T library
Dear Roger Perron, Do you mean the day’s text? If so the current CDRom includes the day text up to March 31st 2011. By then, we should have the new disc for that year.
So far so good! Yesterday I successfully downloaded and installed the Watchtower for Mac and Watchtower Library 2009. Appropriate words seem to me useless for describing how grateful I am that you generously shared your work with us. I shall continue to review feedback data in case of troubleshooting needs.
Thanks Ann. You are welcome my sister. Lots of love from Lancaster congregation. Rachel (the wifey) and Phillip (brother based in Mexico, former Apple employee) are kindly helping brothers and sisters too. Let us know if you have any problems.
Thanks Ann. You are welcome my sister. Lots of love from Lancaster congregation. Rachel (the wifey) and Phillip (brother based in Mexico, former Apple employee) are kindly helping brothers and sisters too. Let us know if you have any problems.
Dear Sarah, Looks like your message got missed for some reason. Sorry about that. Which edition of the library are you trying to install? Is it 2010?
Dear Ann, Thanks for your kind feedback.
Hi Roy,
Thanks for your reply. Yes, it is 2010 edition – brand new disc. Have tried another disc as well thinking it may have just been a problem with the particular disc, but both have come up with the same issue…
Thanks for any help!
Sarah
Dear Sarah, There is a problem with the 2010 edition and Wine. As a temporary fix, please follow the instructions found here
Hope you have success this time.
Thanks, got the 09 working great on my new Mac. I’m a newbie to the Mac and it’s a bit of a struggle. I absolutely cannot find where it is hiding the rs_data file to update it to the 2010 rs_data. Does OSX hide some files like XP does? The 09 works so it has to be there somewhere but I have looked in everyplace suggested on your site and then some and cannot find it. If you have time I would appreciate your help.
Randy,
Roy posted the workaround here.

But what you might be getting is into System → Library → Application Support. And you’ll hit a dead end.
Try this:
Go to the “Finder” on the bottom left side of your dock. That should take you to your home folder where you need to start. To make double sure you are in the correct starting folder choose the “Go” menu at the top of your screen and choose the 5th option down which has a little picture of a house. Or click on the lefthand side of your finder window and choose the little picture of the house. (both little houses do the same thing)
From your home folder you’ll see folders named Music, Pictures, Movies, Documents and more. Double click on “Library” and follow the path:
Library → Application Support → Watchtower Library → drive_c → Program Files → Watchtower → Watchtower Library 2009 → E
Thats where you’ll find the rs_data folder that you’ll need to replace.
Hope that works.
Phillip
Roy,
Upon receipt of the new 2010 disc, I had been using the 2009 WT Library. Unfortunately I did not read the comments on your site regarding issues with wine. That being said, I had inserted the 2009 disc and clicked “uninstall.” Then I inserted the 2010 disc and I received the following message… “The program WTLibrary.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close.” This can be caused by a problem in the program or a deficiency in Wine. You may want to check http://appdb.winehq.org for tips about running this application.
I see the above mentioned work around, however I have already removed the 2009 Library and can’t seem to reinstall the 2009 Library. Please tell me how to delete all files so that I can get a clean reinstall of 2009 for now.
Your kind assistance is much appreciated. Thank you.
Brother Ratcliffe,
I have tried and tried to get the update for 2010 to work. No joy. It seems there is a copy that I cannot find or see for some reason. I was a PC’er until last year. I follow down the path, delete the pubs folder, pop in the new disc, pick the pubs folder off and drop it on the spot where the old one resided, it copies over. Check the contents. The magazines show 2010, the Jeremiah book from the 2010 convention is there.
No. Go back to the program, the DT only goes through March, no Jeremiah book, magazines only go through 2009. Nothing has changed.
OK, delete and start over. Try that and it is slightly different than the video. Work through it. But before I even get the 2010 disk in, I can run the 2009 program from the icon in the Finder/Applications window. Dump the Trash just in case, but changes nothing. Is there a ‘ghost’ copy somewhere that I am missing in your directions? Tried the instructions for complete removal, but can’t get the first one done as there is no Watchtower Framework.
I admit to getting old and slow, and tired just now. Knew the PC’s well but this MAC is a different pony.
I hope you can help. Oh, I do have VMware Fusion installed and a copy of the 2010 WT under that if that means anything, which I don’t thing it should, but just in case.

Dear Terri, There is a video that explains exactly how to uninstall found here. Please ignore the part about any framework. This was a feature of previous versions of the software.
Thanks for the temporary work around. Found your site (and program) quite by mistake (I was using CrossOver for Mac when I encountered the issues). The 2010 Library seems to be working perfectly. I am curious how you got Wine working for Mac though, very interesting. Do you think an update of just the Wine will allow for the Library to work successfully, and how does one update Wine? Thanks again, great job.
I fell on this website by chance but I’m glad that you’ve provided this option for mac users. Is there CD-ROM for exlusively mac users and another for Microsoft users?Or it is the same disk that they both use?
If I’ve obseved well I’ve concluded that there’s one CD for except that mac users have first to download that interface for mac. Please Tell me if I’m right
Kindly
Dave
You are right David. There is only one disc that comes from the branch but you’ll need to install Watchtower Library for Mac first. Please follow the instructions HERE
Remember though… currently some problems exist with installing the 2010 version. Its best to first install your old 2009 disc then follow the instructions HERE
Phillip
Thanks a lot for your work. Much appreciated:) Greetings from Oslo, Norway
Hi! Thanks for all you do. I tried to upgrade from 2009 to 2010 and followed the posted instructions. However, after that I click on the icon and it does not launch. Any ideas?
thanks,
Dawin
Howdy, neighbors! I know you get this all the time, but… thanx for all the effort. We send our love from across the pond.
Roy, I had a late model macbook pro, traded it for new imac. I was able to install wtlib on macbook in a way that allowed me to access it from the icon on my menu bar at bottom.
On the new imac, i checked that there was an acceptable version of x11, installed 1.3, installed wtlib 2009, library appeared after install, I closed library and clicked finish button, clicked wtlib icon which opened it onto my menubar, numbers 1/ 2/ and 3 flashed on the icon… and no wtlib.
I tried clicking icon again… nothing. I clicked icon on desktop… nothing. I can’t get it to open at all now.
“Help! You know know I need somebody. Help! Not just anybody…”
Dear Domenick, “Help, you need someone. Help!!” A Beatles fan!!
We have a few ideas at what might be the problem, but we could do with seeing your Console log. Could you send us a copy of the console log so we can ‘see’ what is happening? Open up Applications>Utilities>Console. Then clear the display. Open up WLFM and you’ll notice the log filling up with a load of jargon. When it has finished, then copy and paste it here for us to look at.
Many thanks.
Dear Roy,
Whats wrong if it comes, the WT Programs has encontered a seriuos problem.. and so on.. What can I do?
Thank you
Claudio
Dear Claudio, Are you trying to install the 2010 CD? If so, there is a problem with this at present. Roy is working on the next version as we speak. In the meantime he has posted a temporary workaround here.
Hi again.. it’s strange.. yes, I tried to install 2010, and it came that the program has encontered a serious problem… but now I try to install 2009 at it comes the same message… with 2010 cover… it is something safed the 2010.. what can I do?
Thank you
Claudio

@Nino: Impossibile installare la libreria torre di guardia da internet. È necessario disporre del CD originale e di software di Roy.

Ive just updated to OSX Lion and tried to open the library and it wont open, come to find out apple being them selves decided to hide some folders that were previously seen like the Application Support folder under the user folder which is where the library is installed to. I open the terminal app, typed in a command to expose the folder “chflags nohidden /Users//Library” reinstalled Watchtower Library for Mac and followed the instructions to install the CD rom for 2009 which now opens just fine, BUT now when it comes to update to the 2010 version, there is no where to drag the RS folder to, I cant find the darn watchtower folder, am I missing something here…HELP????
Update: just for kicks and giggles, I had another spare Hard Drive laying around and did a fresh install of OSX Lion, reinstalled the Watchtower Library and guess what, it all works, I even found the folder to copy the 2010 rs data to after I executed the the command to expose the app support folder, only one problem, in order to get the program to work right, you need to do a clean install of OSX Lion, if you do an OS update through the app store your in for a boat load of problems, believe me, I don’t think any of us is willing to wipe our HD’s clean just to get the Library working and lose everything else…
Hi there Roy, my mom wants to be able to read her watchtower library but as everyone here she has a Mac and it seems to be a problem … She wasn’t running the app under Snow Leopard … We updated to OSX Lion recently and I am now trying to install your program in order to have the whole thing going …
Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be working with me …
I think I’ve done everything right but I’m probably missing something :-)
So here is what I did :
- installed your program 1.3
- Replaced the RS Data File
- did the mv ~/Downloads/Xmodmap ~/.Xmodmap tweak
but now when I launch the app it says error “Le program me WTLibrary.exe à rencontré un problème serieux et doit etre fermé etc.” yes it’s in french hehehe
they say it might have to do with the program or a it’s a Wine problem …
they say i should check http://appdb.winehq.org but I have no clue what the connexion is with your program …
Thank you for your help :-)
merci
