Hi Roy! I’ve been trying to install WTL 2009 unsuccessfully on my Leopard system. I installed the X11 package and still no success. The WTL installs correctly, but then gives the message: “Watchtower Library has experienced a problem and cannot continue.” I saw on your projects site that 1.3 was to solve this, and I downloaded it too, but the issue remains. The same thing happens in Crossover.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Hi Roy
I run iMac 1.3 – Panther. I unfortunately never upgarded it to Tiger or even Leopard (or Snow Leopard). Is there any chance that I get Watchtower Library running on this version? I’ve red in FAQ that you recommand Tiger users to upgrade to Leopard… What do I do with the even older system? Thanks for your help!
Kind regards
Thanks a lot for your program. I’ll liketo use WTLib on my iMac.
Hi Roy, is there a way to use WT Library for Mac on a Iphone or Ipod touch too?
Hi Roy, thanks for the nice tool you made. I use it on Snow leopard with WT08 in Dutch and English and it works great. Unfortunately it does not work completely in Russian. I cannot type text in the search box. I started up notepad (using winefile) and I cannot type in russian there as well. It does not type anything, so not just unrecognizable hieroglyphs. It should be possible, on wine on Linux it works fine, and on wine when I build it myself on Leopard it worked as well. If you have any pointers I might help debugging the problem. Thnks again for your work, Alex
Hi Roy,
Yeah! No problem installing and everything seems to be working fine.
I switched from PC to Mac over a year ago. I was hesitant about using Boot Camp, it seemed to be a hassle and never got around to it. I was working on the Review and really needed the CD so I searched on line and found your site. Thanks so much for your hard work!
Best,
Deanna
I installed WT Lib on iMac 10.6.2 (Snow) with no installation problems reported, however, I can’t get the WTLib to run after the install. I am running in 64 bit mode, is that possibly what is causing the problem? I haven’t tried it in 32 bit, but wondered if your program support 64 bit, since it is usable in Snow.
Thanks for thinking of the ‘rest of us’ who Think Different!
Mark
Frederick, Your crashing problem sounds like something wrong with the library installation rather than X11. Could you move aside the Application Support folder and reinstall.
Nathalie, Sorry I don’t think you’ll be able to run it on Panther.
Benjamin, Sorry no way to run it on iPhone either. Such will need a port.
Mark, Regarding 64-bit, there is no issue. The software runs in 32-bit within the 64-bit Snow Leopard operating system. I wonder if your problem concerns the installation of X11. Could you check your Console log.
Please feel free to contact me using iChat or other instant messaging client. You can get me at royratcliffe (AIM address) or royratcliffe@jabber.org via Jabber.
Hi Roy,
I guess there must have been an installer error on the first try. I uninstalled everything and now it runs perfectly!
Thanks,
Mark
I installed it, but it won’t run. I use Safari, is that why??? I’m not very computer savy, but would love to get it working somehow!
Hi Laurel. Safari is not the problem. It will download the program but once it completes you see the application which you drag into your applications folder.
If you need help you can find a step by step guide in the video section on this site. If you still have a problem, contact my hubbie Roy at his AIM or Jabber address shown above via iChat.

I just found this tonight. The installation was a snap. Many many thanks
for providing the tools to make this work. It’s not important but it would
be nice is there was a brief technical explanation regarding what kind
of programming tools are involved to make this work. I was a bit hesitant
about downloading without the information at first. But I dug around
and figured out that it would work.
Now if I could just get Kingdom Hall schedules ported over to the Mac
I would no longer need Windows.
Thanks again.
Sonny, If you’re referring to Majestic Software’s Kingdom Hall Schedules program, you can integrate this with Watchtower Library for Mac. Please see the FAQ answer to the question Can I run other programs with Watchtower Library for Mac?
Just a simple question, where is the “drive_c” folder in my mac? This program don’t ceates a user\.wine\… folders. I need copy the WTL for PDA from the “virtual windows” to my phone.
I will wait for your reply.
Thanks for your great work!
Had difficulty uninstalling WT library 2008 & installing WT Library 2009. Managed to install by deleting old Crossover program and moving to trash WTL in applications support and applications then doing clean install using copy CD from original.
AWESOME!!!!! The instructions were so user friendly. I upgraded to Snow Leopard specifically so that I could run Watchtower Library. I was not disappointed. Thank Jehovah for your beautiful mind!!!!!
Xavi, You’ll find
drive_catLibrary/Application Support/Watchtower Libraryrelative to your home directory.Maurice, I’ve adjusted the instructions making it clearer that you need to close the library windows but not the app before inserting the CD-ROM.
Abigail, Thank you. I’m glad it’s working for you!
I am a brand new Mac user so I am still learning. I found your site and so decided on a Mac for my new computer…since I would be able to use WT Library. Thank you so much for your efforts!!!!!!!

Hi Roy
Just downloaded the program & installed WTLib 2009. So far, works great! (Macbook/Snowleopard 10.6.2) Thank you very much for your work in doing this, it is much appreciated for those of us who prefer OS X, hope you don’t mind me putting the word out to other brothers who are Mac users (even though this may create more work for you).

Thank you so so so much for making this program available – I really am so grateful. I have left a previous post saying that before finding your site I had found a work around by another brother but when i tried to update WTLIB to the 09 version i couldn’t get it going again. Remebering your site i returned and am so happy how easily i got it going. Thank you very much for your generosity in providing it :) Kind regards Marie-Claire, Kerikeri Cong, Bay of Islands NZ
Dawn, Thank you. Hope you enjoy using your new computer.
John, No problem there. I’m happy to help others too if I can.
Marie-Claire, Glad this version is working for you. It’s a pleasure to be of help.
Was working w/ WT08. Uninstalled and must have deleted some essential file because now WT installer verifies and then nothing. Reinstalled Watchtower Library for Mac several times etc, etc. still same result. Any ideas??
Thanks for a great job!
Dear Tom, It sounds like a CD corruption issue. Could you try another CD, any edition, just to see?
Thank you very much for all your hard work. I have a MBP running Snow Leopard and installed WTLIB08E and it runs great.
Thank You for this… just loaded WTLIB09 onto my MBP, works great.
oh boy do i need help…i have tried over and over again to install watchtower program and it’s not working. When i drag the Watchtower Library application to the application folder nothing happens. On the video it shows another window that pops up and installs it on the computer…or something. Nothing happens for me. I insert the Watchtower CD…nothing happens. I am running Snow Leopard. Any idea what I’m doing wrong, can anyone help?
Dear Tyra, Sorry to hear about your difficulty. Have you launched the app first?? Once in the Applications folder, you need to double-click the app itself so that it’s icon appears in the dock. Then you can insert the CD.
thaks so so much roy im so happy whit this
Hi Roy, thanks for putting this together. I’d spent a while trying to get the WT library running through Wine but I’m not very good with wine. I’m looking forward to trying out your app but the links seem to be dead. Not sure if it’s just me (I’m not at home to test on my home network) but if it’s not, I thought I’d better let you know in case you weren’t aware.
Never mind, it seems to be back up now
i installed 2008 wtlib and upgraded to 2009 wtlib it did not give me an option to remove my wtlib 2008 and now when i turn it on it opens 4 windows 2 with wtlib2008 and 2 with wtlib2009 it probably something i have done wrong, but im not sure how to correct it. It is wonderful of you to take time out of your life to make this software and to answer these questions so thank you very much.
Billy, You can control what automatically launches and what doesn’t via the Applications > Customise… panel. Do you have two entries for each edition, I wonder? Remove any duplicated items. You might also want to uninstall the old edition by inserting that edition’s CD-ROM; the installer asks if you want to uninstall. Make sure you close down all editions first though.
It worked!! very nice!! So now we are waiting for a version for iphone… ;-)
Hi Roy, I just installed the chinese wt library successfully. The words on menu bar and the list of publications on left panel are fine but the contents on the right side (where it displays the daily text and school schedule) are all small boxes. Any suggestion how to resolve this problem?
Anna, You will need to change the Browser Text font via the Library>Properties panel (F2 shortcut) to a font with Hanzi.
Hello Bro Roy.
Thanks so much for your efforts in making this for us Mac users. It has installed ok for me (Macbook Pro – 10.6.2).. sure beats using VMWare Fusion!!
We appreciate your hard work very much. If there is anything I can do to assist (some graphics?) please let me know.
Kind regards
Andrew
You have totally made my day. This program works perfectly on my MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard. Now I can stop to virtualize Windows XP in VirtualBox just for the WTL.
Cheers mate
Hi there.
I downloaded the 1.3 version but it just doesn’t work on my Snow Leopard. It install, not the same way as in the video, and when the installation is done, it just doesn’t open the application! I keep waiting for hours…
What’s going on?
Dear Thiago, Do you see a Watchtower option in the Applications menu?
I just wanted to say thanks, the program works excellent. (Snow Leopard 10.6.2) Much better than having to use Boot Camp. This cuts down considerable the amount of time to start studying. Thanks again! We really appreciate your hard work.
It would be good to mention that before running the install program one needs to quit the X11 app if it is running. If the X11 is running the install fails with: “Xquartz: start_x11_server: (ipc/mig) server died” Once I quit out of X11 the install went successful. Thanks for putting this package together – it works well.
Thanks for the support for mac, many brothers in my area are mac users and have had to use crossover for some time, this looks promising, keep up the good work!
Hi, thanks so much for putting this together, I am really looking forward to using WT CDROM on Mac and Mac only.
I installed it using the Japanese version, installation itself happened but during installation and after (the actual WT library), I cannot actually read the text, as it is displayed as series of little squares, instead of Japanese font. Some parts are in japanese (like the list of the books) but when I double click on the book title, the contents of the book shows up in the main window as series of little squares again.
Would you happen to know what can be done to fix this??
Thanks!!
Hello, I am sister Spanish … I used to Croosover Library 07.08. But when trying to install the 09 … I even installed the icon in finder … but does not open. Can you help? Http://wtlib4mac.royratcliffe.me.uk/ I downloaded it, but not how to use it …. you can help me? Thanks
Hey Roy,
Her your brother from the Netherlands. Yesterday i was really excited to find your app. I followed all your instructions after installing the latest version. Even installed the new X11 and relaunched my Imac 10.5.8. The application does not launch. When i drag the setup.exe from the original CD in to my dock icon it doesn’t do nothing : ( . DO i need additional software? Im I doing something wrong. I realy like to hear your remarks. I can not waith to launch the CD on my own computer. Thanks a lot!
Hereby an additional note. Your application launched fine and it looks great but only the setup andinstallation from yhe actual Library didn’t.
Hi Roy,
I have 2 G-4 computers (1 desktop and PowerBook G-4) does your software work on these . . . I downloaded and installed it, but it doesn’t work. Also I have Virtual PC running on my computer and I tried loading directly from the Watchtower Library CD . . and it failed. I get a failed coping files error when it is copying the data files. . . I have been running previous versions of WTL since the beginning. . . Virtual PC is no longer supported by Microsoft.
Roy, Thank you for this great program. I have now loaded into both of my computers and it works great. For those who don’t install much new software in their computers, a little patience is needed for this download and installation. Again, Thank You.
This program has worked great, only ran into one strange snag. Installed my a mac mini with a Samsung scx-4300 printer and 10.6. When printing from WTL, the printer says “no paper, add paper”. If you put a sheet in the manual feed it prints out fine. The printer prints fine from all mac applications. It’s as though it thinks it’s getting a print job for a different paper size. Checked that it thinks it has letter in it’s tray and that WTL was set for letter. Tried the regedit hack for printing to preview, that didn’t work. Tried editing the generic.ppd in the wine folder inside of WTL4mac package and changed default paper from A4 to Letter and still no change in behavior. Have come across a few items on the google that state that some cups filters do A4 for paper size and some printers get stubborn and will not print to letter, they want A4. Not sure how to address this.
Any thoughts?
Thanks again for the great app.

I do not get the welcome screen after installing the WT application on my laptop. :( can someone help? Thanks.
I have installed the WT L on my Mac Pro with Leopard Snow 10.6. Anytime I try to open the program there is a gray screen that results impossible to get rid of. I have to pretend that I am restarting to be able to close the window because once I ave the gray screen apple menu disappears. I uninstalled reinstalled several times with the same problem. Would you help me please. Thank you.
I was to install the WTL but I cannot open i. I do not know why. Before it was working fine.I do not have Windows I really would to get that working.
Thanks all for your kind encouragement. Sorry that Roy and I haven’t answered comments for a while.
Jurgen, Good idea. However Roy is planning a fix for this. He is hoping to avoid the crossover between WT Library for Mac and X11.
Motoko, You need to go into the Library properties (within the Library menus) and change the font to one that supports Japanese. It defaults to Arial but try Arial Unicode MS instead.
However there is also a problem with the input method. At the moment you will need to type Japanese into a separate window then copy and paste it into WT Library for Mac. Roy is working on a fix for this problem.
Mano, Sorry that you are having a problem with the installation. Hopefully the video here can be of some help. If not please feel free to get back to us.
Ilja, Roy’s suggestion is to first of all try following the video mentioned above. Two things need to happen, first you need to launch the Mac application. You can tell it is running by the ‘spotlight’ shown underneath the doc icon. If you aren’t seeing that, then there is a problem with X11. Second you need to install the Library itself. If that is not happening, try dragging
Setup.exeto the dock icon.Blake, Sorry but something has changed in the latest version of Wine that means that the print to Preview doesn’t work anymore. But you’ll be glad to know that Roy is working on it :-)
a_m, To fix this problem we need to help you reset the defaults because it sounds like this was switched off in a previous version, in which case it will remain off. So here’s what you do. Open the program called Terminal and type in the following:
defaults delete uk.me.royratcliffe.Watchtower\ library. Press enter and then relaunch the app.Richard, This has happened once before to a lovely brother in Hawaii. The answer is directly above in our reply to a_m. Enter this, relaunch, and the grey screen of death will not return!!!
Roy;
Thanks for the work. The WT library install went well and while
it’a a bit slow opening It will be even better when I can remove
VMWare from my laptop. (I need the disc space)
I do have one question though. I successfully installed Kingdom
hall schedules but ran into a problem. the command line which
requires the correct path to launch the program has the wrong
information.
The wine file show that C:\Majestic Software\KHS\ is the path where
the program is located but using that path doesn’t work.
If anyone has the correct path and the final steps to complete
the process I would be grateful.
Sonny
Thank you so much for this work! You don’t know how long I’ve been waiting for this!
Your Brother in Tucson, AZ, USA!
Hello – I just wanted to say Thank You. You guys did an excellent job on this! I’ve been waiting for something like this for a very long time. I installed the WTL in spanish and it works great. My wife loves it too. Thanks again
Andy
Any remote chance your program works on an old powerbook g4?
Hello, I am having problems getting the wtlib to open. I did an unstall and then tried to reinstall. I did notice when I tried to uninstall there was not a wt frameworks to delete. When I tried to reinstall I did not see the framework box on the initial install screen like in the video. I have snow lepard. Any suggestions?
Thanks
i have tried to install wtlib about 5 times. i download it from your link. i drag to my applications folder. i try to open it, it just bounces up and down up down in the dock until it just stops. nothing happens and i have to force quit. what’s wrong? i’m running leopard 10.5.8 on a mac pro tower.
Hi Roy, first, thanks for this application. I downloaded and ran it. the cd-rom installed. When I launch wt library, it bounces on the dock and shows on the top bar, but thats all. Im running leopard 10.6.2
Mahalo! This is a big help.
Hi Roy,
Thanks a ton for making this program. Crossover worked for me with WTL2008, but not with 2009. Glad that I came across your site. It worked great with my iMac on OS X 10.5.8, with an upgraded X11 (2.4) — much better than what Crossover provided!
Wow… thank you so absolutely much. Years… literally, I’ve been waiting and praying and every single release I run home hoping there’s a mac port. I’ve always kept a PC in the house for the solitary reason of running the Library, now, except for the TMS manager that I use, I no longer have to be locked to my windows box.
Yaaayyy! Thanks for your effort. It’s wonderful.
Bonus, we don’t have to juggle who gets to use the library anymore, we both can now!
I downloaded the disk image and installed the cd but I can’t open plz help. I’m going to pioneer school and would love to be able to use the library.
Thanks in advance:)
i am brand new to mac. i am most likely doing something wrong but here’s my case… i have a macbook pro unibody i download the disk image from your website and the drag icon to application then i insert the cd-rom (2009) then nothing happens. i have tried deleting from the hard drive the library the installing everything again and i think i’m making every thing worse. please help i’m starting to think i’m hopeless:(
p.s is there a way for someone to remotely control my computer to install it for me? not sure if it would works in mac?
p.s i’ve been pioneering for two years and finally i’m sixteen and get to go to school. this program would make it so much easier for me to study.. thank you for all you loving hard work its much appreciated
look forward to hearing from you.
sincerely your brother patrick

Just wondering how I would go about installing another version of Watchtower Library English 2008. At the present I have the Spanish 2009 version installed
Roy, Just want to send out a big thank you for all your work. I installed 2008 and now the 2009 WTLB. works perfect. The installation was simple and straight forward. For all those who are hesitant just do it! I have a 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo running the 10.6.2 OS X.
Hello from Japan.
I installed WTLB 2008 Japanese and Traditional Chinese version. And they works great.
But one thing I am struggle with is IME.
When I tried to type Japanese or Chinese on search box, no Japanese charactors were displayed but only Roman charactors.
Do you have any idea for this?
It seems wine has problem with IME.
Patrick, You need to run the app first. If we connect via iChat, we can Screen Share and I can sort out your Mac for you. I’m happy to do that. Contact me at
royratcliffe(AIM) or royratcliffe@jabber.org using iChat. When do you go to pioneer school?Phillip, You can install both. Just put the new CD-ROM in and install again. You end up with two (or more) libraries. Synchronisation works too.
Kyosuke, Yes. You are right. Input Methods do not work with Wine, at present.
Erik, Sounds like X11 is missing. Could you try following the guide under the FAQ section regarding X11 and Leopard. You need XQuartz installing first.
Cherie, I wonder if your issue is same.
Hello,
I have installed the 08 version of WTLIB with no problems but when I went to upgrade to 09 the installer never started. Here is what I did… First, I removed all prior versions of the Library and the installer. Second, I downloaded and installed the new installer (ver 1.3) and opened the file. Third, I dragged the icon to the application folder and after finding it successfully relocated I opened the file. (Here is where the problems begin) After waiting several minutes because nothing is happening (the icon is showing the program is running but there is no welcome screen or any prompt to insert the cd) I decide to just enter the cd and see what happens. Fourth, I insert the cd and the installer begins to verify itself using a percentage bar. Once it gets to 90% it disappears and nothing happens further. Fifth, seeing that nothing is happening I look at the FAQ on your site and it suggests dragging the setup.exe file to the dock icon. So, I try that. Still nothing. The dock icon shows up to 2 processes starting but then they go to 1, then nothing again.
What am I doing wrong? This is a brand new cd gotten wrapped from the literature counter. Again, 08 still works for me and I even re-installed it on the ver 1.3 software just to see if the error was there but it worked fine and there are no problems running it. Just 09 will not load. Thanks in advance.
Brandon
Fabulous! Thank you for developing this for mac users. I operate OSX Snow Leopard and it works beautifully. Well done! Very well done!!
Hi Roy
I’m a new mac user.
Thank you for your wonderful app to run W.lib. on mac.
unfortunately I have discovered a problem which i can’t fix.
when I crop text from W.lib. and insert it in MS office for mac.
It ignores my Danish dictionary. I have no problem with the dictionary when I type. In the part that I’ve have written I don’t have any problems with changing dictionary, but not in the pasted part.
Is it because the “window” w.lib runs in is english?
my hair is really getting gray… and thats a bit to soon.
Do you have any idea how I can sort i out.
Thank you
morten andersen, Denmark
Hello Br. Ratcliffe,
What a great application for those of us who are Mac users. Unfortunately I have been unable to get either the English 2009 or Spanish 2009 to run.
I’m running a Mac Mini 2.26 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2GB of Ram.
OS 10.6.2
I followed the setup instructions and watched your video, but I cannot get either the English or Spanish versions to launch. The installation of both worked perfectly.
I have rebooted my Mac several times and the only thing that happens when I launch your application is the cursor changes from an arrow to an “X” for a couple of seconds and then turns back into an arrow.
Any suggestions?
I’m on Skype at FabianRossCreative or iChat at findjerry at gmail dot com.

Brandon, Sounds like a CD-ROM corruption problem. Do you have access to another copy of the CD-ROM that you can try?
Morton, Not quite sure what problem you have found. You copy and paste to Office for Mac but the pasted text is not recognised as Danish. Is that right? I’d be happy to help directly if you’re new to Mac. Please contact me at royratcliffe (AIM) or royratcliffe@jabber.org (Jabber) using iChat.
Roy, we get the grey screen of death when we open the W.L. The only way to get out is to re-boot. We saw your fix to type in Terminal: defaults delete uk.me.royratcliffe.watchtower\library
This is what we get when we do:
2010-03-28 13:29:20.076 defaults[303:10b]
Domain (uk.me.royratcliffe.watchtowerlibrary) not found.
Defaults have not been changed.
So now what?
Thanks again, Roy! The new version worked perfectly on the first try. Keep up the good work- this is helpful to a lot of people =)
Thanks Roy, I will try that.
I don’t know it this changes anything at all in terms of cd corruption but it worked on my PC….(the cd not the emulator)
WTLIB09 doesn’t start after correct installation. WTLIB08 works great?! (Mac OS X 10.6.3) Thank you!
Brad, You need to make sure that the defaults domain is exactly as I wrote case-sensitively, i.e. ensure that the letters match mine by case: upper and lower. Also make sure you have back-slash then space.
Brandon, Yes, sometimes different machines have differing outcomes when reading CDs.
Hi there!
Great and very helpful software. Unfortunately copy & paste from WTLib to Mac is not working for me. And yes, I am using the correct keys :) (=Ctrl+C in WTLib, Command+V in Mac).
WTLib 1.3
Watchtower Library 2009
Mac OS X 10.6.3
Any hints on how to fix this? Thank you!
Thank you Roy. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to work for us. I typed it exactly like you said to and it still says “defaults don’t exist” or haven’t been changed. I guess we must have a different problem that is causing the grey screen. ? Thanks again for your help. Brad.
I have successfully used the latest WTLib4Mac for about a year. However, just the past week, I cannot enter any text into the Search box. It is as if the keyboard doesn’t respond with the correct keys. I have tried shutting down and rebooting, and reinstalling the program, but to no avail. Can you please help? Thanks.
Hi Roy or Rachel,
I probably missed your comment but how to you upgrade the WTLIB from 08 to 09 on a MacBook Air? Thanks in advance for your help, you guys are great!
Hello, I have downloaded the program, it jumps up and down in the dock but never opens. Also when putting the disc in it wont recognise it and start loading. Is there anything i need to troubleshoot?
Thanks
Steven
Good afternoon been using Watchtower for mac for about a month now and it worked perfectly all this time. Now when I open it shows up in the menu bar for a second and then closes it self, any idea how to fix or what could be causing this? Running 10.5.8 on imac thanks
Hi, I succesfully installed WTL 09 on my Mac OSX snow leopard, i had a little problem with language, actually i’m trying to install it in Korean. It does install but can’t see the letters in Korean. Can you help me? Thank you and great job!
Dear Roy,
We just recently got our first edition of the WTL and were crushed to learn it did not have a Mac install option. I found your app quite by accident (on MacFreeware site) and was so overjoyed that i was able to install and run it (so far so good, though a little slow on start up). My husband and I actually went to the expense of purchasing a laptop pc specifically to run the WTL because it didnt work on our Mac. Thank you so much for your hard work to create this program… wish we had known about it $350 dollars ago but, at least now we can have multiple users!! Thanks again. May Jehovah continue to bless you for your efforts in making the program available to those who dont own PC’s.

Roy, I am having a little problem. I bought a new mac and imported everything (settings, apps etc…) to my new mac. This includes Watchtower Library using your installer. It was working fine on my older mac, but on my new one, it takes at least two minutes for Watchtower Lib. App to load. I uninstalled all 3 libraries (Sp, Eng, French) and threw the Watchtower Library App. to the recycle bin to start from fresh on my new mac. I re-installed everything and I still have the same lag. It’s a bran new computer, and it all worked fine on my older one. I’m thinking my re-install wasn’t as clean as I thought. How can I start over, or is this a common problem?
Hi Roy,
Thanks for your work on creating a great helper for us forgotten Mac users! I tried following the instructions to install TSWIN and for some reason they don’t complete. When I try to create the 1st mentioned shortcut, everything turns up as ‘0’ and that includes the shortcut.
I wondered too, that once this problem is fixed will installation of the software for CO’s install on the Mac? A close friend of mine just got invited into Circuit Work and is switching to a Mac. He wanted to use the program in the Mac eviron if possible.
Thanks,
Mark
Hi Roy…
Although I was using VMware Fusion I prefer not having to load it and have it run in the back ground…. Your program works excellent!
Thank you!
I do have a question regarding another of the subjects on your website “Integrating other Windows Program with WT Lib for the Mac”
I am in the process of doing so but cannot find the Users/login to find the home directory…. I am not at all savvy when it comes to this kind of stuff… so Im sorry for taking your time to get this done… please forgive me. HOw do I find it?
Thanks in advance for your help!

thanks again.
I have a Mac, osx Leopard. WT Libwas installed and working for a while. Now it won’t open. Would installing Snow Leopard solve my problem?
Borgny, I think that upgrading will not necessarily help. Perhaps you could check your Console logs to see what error messages appear.
Bill, Not sure what you are looking for exactly. But my guess is that you are referring to the user’s home directory. You can find it from Finder by selecting Go » Home; shortcut is Shift+Command+H. Is that what you mean, or am I misunderstanding?
Mark, Not sure what you mean by “everything turns up as 0.” I’m keen to help as much as possible, of course. Perhaps you could describe the symptoms. You could file a bug at the developer site (here). You can upload screenshots and we can try to work out what has gone wrong.
jbdonline, Please check out the uninstallation video, in the videos section. It shows you how to do a really clean uninstall.
Doug, That sounds a bit like X11 is missing or damaged. Could you check out your Console log. Look for an app called Console under Applications » Utilities. It displays system messages. Run this then watch what messages appear when you try to launch Watchtower Library for Mac.
Steven, Sounds like you need X11. Please see the FAQ section.
Dora, Please also see the FAQ on how to upgrade.
Fantastic, marvellous and brilliant! Exactly what I was wishing for. Thank you so much for you effort and help on getting WTLib on a Mac. Everything worked smoothly on 10.5.8 after X11 update. Gonna get rid of every single Microsoft driven PC in the house now.
Dear Brother,
I installed WTL on my MackBook Pro. I was so happy, however; It worked only once! How do I fix it?
Agape,
Sister Hanson
Dear Sister Hanson, Could you provide some details. What happens when you launch the Watchtower Library? Does the installed edition appear in the Applications menu?
I can’t get the program to run at all on my macbook pro. Every time I drag the icon into applications it has a ‘do not enter’ symbol on it(circle with line through it) and if I try to open it it says ‘Watchtower Library can not be opened because of a problem’. I have tried downloading again but get the same problem.
Carl,
Can you drag other things into the application folder? Try this and see what happens.
If it has the same problem… try to “get info” about the folder. You can do this by going to “Macintosh HD” then single click on the applications folder. Go to the File menu then choose the option “Get Info”. From there you’ll see several sections. Make sure the “Sharing and Permissions” section says “Read and Write” for you. Also make sure that the box “Locked” is not checked.
Phillip
Phillip,
I can “read and write” and “locked” is not checked.
On the menu in the video tutorial where it instructs to drag the icon into the Applications folder, I don’t get the WTL icon in the middle. Only the Library for mac icon and the applications folder icon. Hopefully you can think of another possibility for this problem.
Carl
This is part of the details of the error message I am receiving:
Dyld Error Message:
Library not loaded: /usr/X11/lib/libXfixes.3.dylib
Referenced from: /Applications/Watchtower Library.app/Contents/MacOS/../Frameworks/XServer.framework/Versions/A/XServer
Reason: image not found
Dear Carl, That message appears when X11 is missing from your system, or perhaps damaged. Please check out the FAQ regarding X11.
Thanks Roy. However it says X11 is only for 10.5 and I’m running 10.6. Should I proceed?
Hi Carl, Ah. In that case, use the X11User.pkg provided by Apple on your Installation DVD. It appears as an optional installation item.
Well I found X11 and installed it and, guess what? Now Mail doesn’t work!ha
Heard of that problem before?
Did a restart and everything is working well. Going to get the CD-ROM again tomorrow night and see if it all works.
Unfortunately there is no change. Same message, "Dyld Error Message:
Library not loaded: /usr/X11/lib/libpixman-1.0.dylib
Referenced from: /Applications/Watchtower Library.app/Contents/MacOS/../Frameworks/XServer.framework/Versions/A/XServer
Reason: image not found
If it’s saying “image not found,” could it mean that libpixman is not present? Could you navigate to /usr/X11/lib and see if that library is there. You can use Finder via Cmd+G then enter the path, or use Terminal if you don’t mind entering Unix commands.
I really don’t know enough to follow your instructions. When I hit Cmd+G I only get the error sound and nothing else.
Somehow though I got far enough through ‘Utilities’ to get the Terminal window open and this line was contained within it: /usr/X11/lib/X11/xinit/xinitrc: line 26: exec: quartz-wm: not found
Does that tell you anything useful?
Thanks for your ongoing help, Roy.
Hi Carl, Do you mean Console window? My instructions were not very clear. Sorry. I meant to say Cmd+Shift+G, or Go > Go to Folder… option via the menus. Missed out the Shift.
Error looks like an X11 problem. Like best solution would be to meet up via iChat and screen share. You can get me at roy at royratcliffe dot me dot uk, where “at” and “dots” replaced by the respective symbols.
Hi Roy, I haven’t used iChat before so am just trying to set it up thru Google Talk.
I’ll have to try you in the morning as I live in Canada and I believe you’re 8 hours ahead.
Great. I’m on the ministry this morning, back around 1:30pm BST (British Summer Time, though there’s not much summer here at the moment).
Sorry but I was in the ministry this morning too and didn’t have opportunity to connect. I’ll try again about 10pm your time tomorrow. Will that work?
No problem Carl. Yes, 10pm will be fine. Looking forward to meeting you.
Actually, turns out we’re out for tea (dinner in northern Brit speak) tonight. Might not be back for 10pm but certainly for 11pm. Hope that’s okay.
I’m trying you right now Roy so hopefully I have everything set up correctly as it says it’s waiting for response from you.
Back earlier than I thought. I’m on iChat now.
My apologies Roy, I didn’t see your message about being out for tea before trying to contact you.
I’m on iChat now if you’re available Roy.
I was doing and investigation using Boot Camp and my Windows Vista crashed. Out of pure frustration I google Wat… for Mac and I stumble into your site. Thank you very much for this app. Works great. Richard.
Tks for the WT library but i could not get it to work ….. will it work for snow leopard OSX? or am i doing something wrong… if anyone has been successful plz leave a response. TKS AGAIN!
I have panther and I downloaded the watchtower library for mac and then the window opened for me to drag it to my applications. I dragged it there and then the watchtower library for mac has a symbol over it that looks like a white “non smoking symbol” over it. So then I took the Setup.exe and tried to drag it to the icon and it said, "Setup.exe could not be moved because watchtower library for mac v1.3 cannot be modified. I tried several times and the icon still has the symbol over it. I ever deleted everything I installed and started over and nothing worked. Please help thanks.
Shan.
Unfortunately Watchtower library doesn’t work on Panther or any G3, G4 or G5 Mac.
Phillip
Awww shame…that’s too bad. Thanks for your time and response Phillip. I guess I will look for another avenue. Thanks again.
Dear Glenn, It should work fine on OS X Snow Leopard. Not sure what’s going wrong. Best thing is to submit a support request at the link on the right-hand side of the home page. Or contact myself of Phillip directly via iChat. I’m sure we can help you out.
Dear Brother,
I was a user of the old program and thought that i needed to delete all files (which I did). I tried locating hidden files but I guess I am not smart enough to do that so I left that alone. The search option does not show me anything hidden. Following to that I have downloaded and installed the latest version but the framework does not want to start up. I have no clue what to do next. I hope you can find the time to help me. Thank you very much in advance.
Dear Ruben, Please can you follow this video to uninstall everything and start again? Just ignore any instructions regarding ‘Frameworks’ as this is no longer required. Then, starting with the 2009 CD, start again.
Hi Brother Roy,
I was hoping to install Watchtower Library on my work macbook. After downloading your program i have tried to open Watchtower Library from my Applications and i get the following problem report:
Watchtower Library cannot be opened because of a problem. Check with the developer… Dyld Error Message:
Library not loaded: /usr/X11/lib/libXfixes.3.dylib
Referenced from: /Applications/Watchtower Library.app/Contents/MacOS/../Frameworks/XServer.framework/Versions/A/XServer
Reason: image not found
I seem to have the same error as Carl Macdonald (a few comments above) and was hoping you may be able to share how you were able to fix his problem. I’m a little worried as it’s a work computer and i don’t want to fiddle with it too much…
Thank you,
Maddy Savage
Maddy,
Are you using OS 10.5 or OS 10.6?
If you don’t know you can click on the “” menu in the upper left corner and choose “About This Mac”
That will tell you version 10.5 or 10.6
Phillip
Having the exact same problem as Maddy Savage. Running 10.6.7
I’m new to the world of computers, but I know I have OS X Snow Leopard. Some time after installing the WT Library, my screen would suddenly go to black for a few seconds. Not sleeping for sure! We’ve done an erase/reinstall and it went to black several times after I installed the WT Library again from the CD, not necessarily when I was using the Library. We took the Library off completely, and now it has gone to black only once or twice. Ideas? Is this something that in the long run could harm the computer? The geniuses at the Apple Store are mystified, but at least have nailed it down to a software problem.
Thank you for your consideration!
Oops! Looked for your answer in the wrong place and posted my question again here……. Got your reply and thank you again!
Yep i’m using OS X 10.6.7 – same as M Domenico… Any ideas?
Thanks,
Maddy

Hi Brother Roy!
Version 2 looks great! Shame about the App Store:-( But the new UI looks very polished, and it runs faster and smoother on my mac as well. I was fiddling around with the bookshelf image in the library launch screen, and changed the image to a different bookshelf, i’d be happy to email the image to you if your interested in having a look:-)
Regards,
Your Brother.
Hi Brothers, I can’t open the following link
http://developer.royratcliffe.me.uk/projects/wtlib4mac/wiki/Chinese-Japanese-Korean_font_mapping.
I need to see the info in it cause I have the same problem in Arabic.
Thanks for the good work
Hello, something happened to the library where I cannot open it. I want to delete it and start over. Trash won’t let me delete it because it says it is in use. I have tried everything. Can you help? I am using v2.1 and I have Mac OS X version 10.7.3
Thank you
Hi Roy,
I have installed the application and I’m having problems with the keyboard corresponding to what the actual keys are. I’m getting something totally different than what I’m typing. But, then when I’m not in the program the keyboard works fine. Can you please help? Thanks Jeff
